5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for the beginner
My pot bellied pig is the first one I have ever owned and I wanted to make sure I knew all the things I should and shouldn't do.After researching several books this looked like the best one. After receiving it I was sure this was the best one.It has everything a newcomer (or an old pro) to the pot bellied pig world needs to know.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pot Bellied Pig Care
Excellent, refrence manual.Nice to have one from a veterinarian's prospective. The diagrams and pictures are extremly helpful.I'd recommend this book to anyone in the market for a pot bellied pig.In my case, I've had a pet pig for 13 years; and after reading the book found that I wasn't as knowledgeable as I'd originally thought on the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vet Care of Pot-bellied Pigs
This book is PERFECT for the reader craving knowledge, or theirvet. It has all the information you should ever need (142 pgs) with photograghs and drawings, and is pleasingly readable but scientifically correct also.Especially when used in conjunction with Veterinary Management of Miniature Pigs by Lisle George, DVM ...you will feel like a confident and informed pig owner, although either could stand alone. It is especially good with helping the reader decide what is and isn't necessary, and good prophilactic tactics to avoid trouble. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Pot-Bellied Pigs
I did not realize it was an old edition, I would have purchased a more recent version

5-0 out of 5 stars If you own a pig, you should have this book
This book is perfect for the potbellied pig owner. It is sufficiently detailed, yet not so technical as to make it unreadable by a lay person.

Despite the rather silly (but amusing) cover, it is a serious and useful book.It is well-written and the authors go out of their way to make it useful to the non-veterinary person.

The book is not a 1000 page tome of everything you would need to know to get a DVM degree with a specialization in potbellies; instead, it focuses on the medical issues that the PBP owner reallly needs to know - the "gotchas", so to speak.

If you have a pig at home (or are looking to get a pig), you should have this book.

If your vet isn't a pig specialist, RUN, don't walk to your keyboard and order this book.Oh wait, if you're reading this, you're already AT your keyboard. So just order it.That, and if you're a new owner, find a good book on pig behavior and psychology.

4-0 out of 5 stars Educational .AND. Fun -- a review of "Potbellied Pigs" (Lunis)
"Potbellied Pigs" is a VERY nice, readable book for elementary aged children. At first, I wasn't sure I was going to like it. It started off, you see, with a story about a hotel which was surprised one day by a guest who was a pig. I rolled my eyes wonderwing where 'this' was going, BUT I was entirely wrong and Natalie Lunis soon had me deeply engrossed in her narrative which seeks, for the most part, to be an overview of potbellied pigs.

Written at the AR 4.6 level, Lunis book covers the origins of Potbellied pigs as well as why they make good pets, who might consider them, and what difficulties their might be in actually having one.

Talking Points:::
I was captivated by this easy read. The pictures are varied and show pigs doing all sorts of things, from eating to sleeping to jumping through hoops (really!).

"Potbellied Pigs" provides a 24 page overview of these special pigs. I would think it would be of interest to most children who might want to indulge in some wishful thinking/ alternatives to dogs and cats.

Product Description
A new twist on the old pet care books! These delightful books will help beginning readers reach informed decisions as to whether an animal would make an acceptable pet. Not all the animals covered in the series are suitable for every family. Each title provides simplified technical info about the species, including how the animal lives in the wild, how big it will get, and how long it lives. It also provides details on care of the pet, such as space requirements, how and what to feed it, health care, and handling. Once readers understand whether the animal would make a good pet, they are prepared to try to convince their parents they can . . . care for the pet. Potbellied pigs are unique pets. They are quite smart, so they are easy to train. They learn tricks quickly. They love company, so they always want to hang out with you, playing games, chasing a ball, and even cuddling on your lap. Just like a dog, pigs like to go for walks. Once you convince your parents that you can care for a potbellied pig, put on your sneakers, grab a leash, and hit the sidewalk! Chances are everyone will want to stop and see your charming new pet. ... Read more
