2-0 out of 5 stars Not really a book for VB.NET web programming.
If you are new to VB.NET web programming and want to learn it, look somewhere else. The book gives more of an overview of the .NET framework and less actual VB.NET web programming.

Part of Page 11 Paragraph 1 of the book states it best:

"At least 90% of the material you need to learn is related to the .NET Framework, not to Visual Basic. We therefore don't try to teach Visual Basic, but assume you have at least a fundamental knowledge of the language."

2-0 out of 5 stars Dosen't measure up to SAMS standard.
This book tries to please both the beginner and the experienced programmer coming from VB6, however it does a below average task of both.

The task of explaining .NET and how to fully utilize VB .NET is not a task for one book, and this book does not claim to do this, instead it jumps back and forth between subjects and forgets some very important topics that are not even mentioned?

I must say I'm sorry I bought this books, and I have bought SAMS books before that are of much higher quality! This is nothing that will discourage me from buying SAMS other titles, but I would look elsewhere for a VB.NET introduction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This book really has it all in a nutshell...excellent dataset and ADO .NET content, session vars etc etc you name it, it generally covers it. It doesnt go into everything as deep as you would like, so its not gong to be the only book you buy, but for starting off it's an excellent launching point into VB .NET that I would thoroughly recommend.
One note..this book doesnt really cover VB .NET syntax, ie for loops, OO concepts and the like. It does however conatin alot of information about creating web based VB .NET apps, just as the title implies. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, but not for beginners.
CAVEAT: This is not a book for Visual Studio spoon-fed types.Guess what? there are many other IDEs besides VS out there.(IDE - Integrated Development Environment). So if you're addicted to using VS and you're opposed to some mental gymnastics, this is probably not the book for you.
I like and use VS but Petzold's IDE neutral approach forced me to figure out many things about VS and Windows that I didn't know before. And to delineate between them.
Visual Studio issue aside, Petzold's writing style and code examples are so very well thought out and insightful. The focus is on applying graphics functions to Windows forms. This is a way to explore "under the hood" of windows programming without delving into DB, data IO and user interface issues.Since I have an interest in graphics programming anyway, I was totally pleased with the topic emphasis.
Excellent discussion of and application of Object Oriented Design.Petzold is just plain fun to read.Yes, the previous statement reveals that I am a total programming geek.
If you read both C# and VB, choose the VB version.Petzold says in the forward that he refined the conceptual content as he was rewriting the original C# book for VB.NET.

5-0 out of 5 stars When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Petzold makes it clear that programming means coding, not dragging and dropping. And that should make it obvious why Wanna-Be-Coders won't like this one very much. With this reader, you actually learn programming at a very high and pure level, which makes it one of the best books on coding money can buy.

I don't have much patience for cry babies who claim the book is recycled crap - they don't have the slightest idea what they're talking about. Now, if the real McCoy is too tough for you, why don't you stay with VB6 or switch to Delphi? Better yet, give up on programming altogether and do something easier - like knitting.

1-0 out of 5 stars Content needs to be brought up to date.
Want to code bit mapped circles and arcs? Want to re-invent "pong?" This is your book. Want to code business aplications - this book is a waste. There is more attention paid by the author to "Fun With Fonts" than to things that have been significantly improved in .NET like TreeView.
I get the sense Petzold wrote the original content for this book back in the 80's and has re-cycled it one time too many.
The title of the book inferred a little bit of help in using VB.NET to tap into the new Window's .NET Framework. It does - but it sticks to the things you could do in the Windows API several years ago. IMHO, in 2004 we are way beyond lines, curves, brushes, pens, images and bitmaps.
This is another author going through the motions and updating old content.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
This is the best book I have ever had. I have used Sams Reach Yourself Visual Basic.Net and Sams Teach yourself more Visual Basic.Net. But, this helped me aply my programing to windows better and I was able to have more fun

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely not another "me too" VB.NET book
Charles Petzold has been writing Windows programming books since the year one. He knows his subject and how to get it across to his readers. This is not intended to be another in an already long series of books on VB data base programming for the enterprise. Rather it is a clear exposition of VB.NET Windows programming with an emphasis on the inner workings of Windows. It will prepare its readers to create their own structures from the building blocks offered by the .NET Framework. It has excellent sections which explain how Windows paints and draws objects and others on how to use the built-in graphics functionality of Windows in your own projects. It is probably not for rank beginners. A useful complement, in a different style, is Francesco Balena's "Programming Microsoft Visual Basic .NET". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is worth every penny
This book is oriented for those with basic knowledges of Excel and some general understanding of Visual Basic (Visual Basic 6 not Visual Basic .NET).However, the examples are simple, sequential and conductive for constructing basic applications even if you have never used Visual Basic before.

Let the Author, Mr. John Walkenback, take you through the first 7 Chapters, type in the examples as you go, and you will rip the benefits.

1-0 out of 5 stars No real life examples
This book sucks! Its just a little better than the help file included in with Excel. All he does is put it in a diffrent order.I was expecting small excercises where I could put my new skills all together, but there is none.So you read the whole book, remember as much as you can, and go off and try to mix and match hundreds of commands...buy another one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent manual for intermediate and higher programmers!
This is a great manual for those who, at a minimum, have a limited knowledge of Visual Basic and a limited working knowledge of Excel. If you don't consider yourself an expert then this is the book for you!

I've taught myself multiple computer languages (English is my natural language but that doesn't really matter now, does it?) and am very familiar with Excel -- but not so much on the programming side of things. As far as being a VB programmer, well, about two or three years ago I taught myself VB 5.0 and then never ended up needing to use it.The first time I used this book was to help me with a VB module in a customers Excel workbook. There was even an example in this book about using the Windows API to get the window to search for a directory which I was able to easily incorporate into the code.I then started reading through the chapters and just kept on learning more and more! When working on a project I can easily find a relevant chapter/section that pertains to what I'm doing or need and solve my problem!

He clearly explains his code and if the example is a code snipet. The included CD contains his examples and other files which I find very helpful, especially when I don't want to type in everything myself :-)

If you even *think* this may be a candidate for your library then stop thinking and just get it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravo!
Outstanding reference and how to manual for Excel macro programming. A must have for anyone who has ambitions of writing their own programs for Excel. John's clear, organized, and comprehensible writing style allows even a novice programmer to immediately begin to write Excel macros that really do something, and do something useful. His book is chock full of useful code examples. Get two copies. It is that good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference book for non-programmers
This book can be included in the handy tool category, a "must have" for non-programmers who want to give their Excel applications a professional look as well as get the most out of Excel without wasting much time and effort. Word of caution, a bit of familiarity with visual basic as a language and the controls etc. will be very helpful in using this book. Codes in the CD are very helpful. It is written by a practicing professional from usage point of view hence a very easy reading book and not heavy on the jargons of object oriented programming etc. I learned a lot of useful tricks after going through the book. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Love Holzner but despise this book....
I was looking for a more indepth look at ADO.NET to connect to databases. I thoroughly enjoyed Holzner's Sam's book ("Teach Yourself Visual Basic.NET in 21 Days"), but this book is awful. First off, it's bound up like a paperback novel, the screen shots barely legible at times. I had to break the binding to get it to cooperate while I worked through the examples.
The content was put together decent but in a strange order. You'd be right in the middle of putting something together and then the authors would cut away to another project. I also found some of the "tone" to be offensive, talking about "real programmers" and what-not. I highly suspect that to be the co-authors voice, Bob Howell, but there's no way to know for sure.
Don't waste your time on this book. Seriously, I'm not just being picky here. I've never thrown a book away before but I'm considering doing that, either that or donating it to my library.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fair to Mild
I found this book to be quite useful, however the subject matter was derived from an early edition of VB.Net and so found some things difficult to translate. The layout of the book is poor with new major topics starting at the bottom of the page, and the quality of the screenshots is very poor to be unreadable at times. I could not get the demo example to work - but this may be due to version conflicts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This book may be tough going if you are new to Visual Basic .NET but it's worth it weight in gold. You'll end up with a better understanding of connection strings, data providers, data adapters, datasets, dataviews, tables, writing and reading XML, and data binding.
Anyone can drag and drop tables onto a form. This book teaches you how to write everything in code in addition to using the drag and drop method.
I'm using the book as the textbook for the ADO.NET programming couse that I'm teaching. Very few mistakes and the sample code compiles without any problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Written Book
I've gone through only three chapters in this book, but it's already my favorite ADO.NET book. The authors write in an understandable, lucid manner and they don't dumb down the material. They also don't waste time rehashing ADO, DAO, and other (now) legacy technologies. The book is about ADO.NET only and it is obviously written by authors who are truly knowledgable about the material and know how to communicate that knowledge. This is a five star book all the way. ... Product Description

Programming the Web with Visual Basic .NET is a comprehensive guide to building web applications and services using Visual Basic .NET. It is written especially for experienced Visual Basic programmers who use Visual Studio .NET for their development work, even those who have never written a web application before.

Because the .NET Framework simply blows away the archaic tools previously available to web programmers, the authors predict that many Visual Basic programmers who successfully avoided Web programming in the past will now bring their expertise to the Web. However, even experienced web programmers will greatly benefit from the authors' thorough coverage of the ASP.NET namespaces and their clear coverage of the ADO.NET classes most important to Web applications that use relational databases for data storage. All developers will benefit from the authors' extensive practical advice (based on their unique professional backgrounds) about how to produce create high-quality code and how to create professional, usable websites.

After reading Programming the Web with Visual Basic .NET, you'll understand how to build and deploy top-quality, professionally designed, highly usable web applications using Visual Basic .NET.

4-0 out of 5 stars Visual Basic. NET
It's pretty good for Internet Applications. I recommend this product for Web developers. And also a great price through Amazon.com

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Examples, Authors Know Their Stuff
Over a year ago I posted in an ASP.NET forum complaining about the lack of good books utilizing the VS.NET IDE as a teaching tool.

Well, there are several titles out there now. But few good ones. From my post it was evident that I wasn't rerally willing to learn a language but try to wing the point and click way.

So one of the authors of this book just plain told me to go and learn a language like VB and then get her book.

Thast was both a harsh comment and a hard sell!

Apparently that is what I needed. I did realize that in no way my pretty lofty programming goals could be met with peripheral knowledge of .Net.I have a doctoral degree but programming really gave me a hard time getting started.

I would get to about page 200 of your average 6-700 page computer tome and stall in a sea of poor definitions and convoluted moronic explanations we are all familiar with and dread.

Which 2 year old wants a description of a cat as a feline quadripede domesticated mammal (that is a 3 letter word with that raises 4 hums?) Unfortunately, geek literature is plastered with that.

So I would go on to the next title. Finally I broke down and bought this book too and it hit home.

I now own more than 3 dozen programming books. I don't even program VB.Net any more but I still go back to the Torkelson/Patterson title the most because of the excellent examples, clear explanations and solid practices.

Some people just have the knack to teach properly! It is a talent, like all human endeavors not equally distributed, so getting your start from an effective communicator is key.

If VB.NET is your lingo this book will parley it to you the best!

Cudos!

5-0 out of 5 stars Working knowledge of ASP.NET, VB.NET (Web) and ADO.NET.
This book is aimed at teaching someone who is ALREADY exposed to VB.NET how to create database driven Websites using VB.NET, ASP.NET, and ADO.NET. It takes a database neutral approach and you could use almost any database in using this book. If you are new to VB.NET but have a good understanding of another programming language, you will still be able to follow this book.

The book does not skip any steps in explaining how to use these three technologies on a Web project. It is very detailed in its explanations and has a lot of sample code that works! You have to download this sample code from their website (which is a good thing as you will have code that has been thoroughly debugged). Any problems I had using the code in this book had to do with Visual Studio.NET 2003 related problems. But once I fixed those issues, I had no trouble using the sample code. A lot of examples can be used immediately in almost any Web project you may be currently working on.

In the initial stages of learning these technologies, I was lucky enough to find this book and spent a lot of time reading THIS book only and to date, I have covered more than 70% of the book. I couldn't skip any sections as they are so well written and well connected (the various topics). This type of thorough treatment of a subject in the IT world is rare and it got me thinking if it is to do with the authors or the publisher. I have already decided to check out more books by the publisher first.

The thing I like the most about this book is the excellent explanations they give on how ASP.NET, VB.NET, and ADO.NET really work. They are very detailed and the explanations make sense! That combined with the practical nature of this book (tons of code) make it a very valuable find. By the time you are done with this book, you should have no trouble creating a database driven website. You still need 'ASP.NET Developer's Cookbook' by The ASP Alliance to create a complex website. But this book will give you the confidence you need to consider yourself a decent web developer in using .NET technologies. You can then go to the next level.

If you are frustrated trying to find a good book on using VB.NET to design websites, you won't be disappointed with this book. I found only a few books on .NET that I really like and this book made the Top 3 of that list. Enjoy using this book to master ASP.NET, VB.NET, and ADO.NET for the Web!

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn ASP.NET the Right Way with Code Behind & Visual Studio
I can't believe the recent two less-than-stellar reviews of this book, because I found this book to be absolutely top-notch.

I moved from VB6 to VB.NET (Windows programming) not too long ago, but I had never done any Web programming. Someone had recommended ASP.NET Unleashed. It has lots of little code examples, but they're chock full of response.write's (yuck!). It also assumes you'll be using notepad as your code editor (double-yuck!).

In contrast, Programming the Web with Visual Basic .NET is a complete tutorial that explains how to develop Web applications and services the right way. It uses Code Behind exclusively, gives great tips for designing usable Web pages, and takes you through the Visual Studio way of developing ASP.NET applications.

The sample code is useful and interesting. I especially appreciated the chapter that shows how to use the .NET trace features to understand exactly how the Web page processing sequence and control tree works. I also loved the examples on using resource files to localize pages for international users and on developing a "breadcrumb" custom control (and why you need breadcrumb links).

The database chapter on ADO.NET was exactly what I needed to understand the Visual Studio tools for handling the disconnected datasets used in scalable Web applications. The examples tied together well and were fun too. What with Lizzy the milk cow running off with the bull next door, Daisy and MooMoo joining them, Bossy getting depressed... Along with learning to do database deletes and updates, I was treated to a regular dairy farm soap opera. :-)

Each chapter added greatly to my knowledge, and the final chapter cemented it with a surprisingly thorough start-to-finish Web site development project. I say "surprisingly" because most books' single-chapter, "start to finish" projects don't cover nearly as much ground as this one did.

Although this book seems to be written mainly for experienced VB programmers, I would also highly recommend it for experienced ASP programmers who want to learn ASP.NET (as long as they learn some VB.NET first -- this book doesn't try to teach that too -- it expects that you'll start with a basic understanding of VB.NET). The reason I recommend it for ASP programmers is that this book will teach them the Code Behind way of coding, rather than perpetrating the response.write way they had to code in previous versions of ASP.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the one!
I'm very disappointed with this title, so much talk where not necessary, examples that not directly related to the subject in hand, chapters introductions as if author is writing an article in a newspaper not for a professional developers, Authors seem to know their stuff very well but there is a difference between knowing the material and authoring a book, clearly they doesn't have that talent. I can't dare to compare this book to Jeff Prosise masterpiece "Programming Microsoft .NET", but I found O'Reilly's Programming ASP.NET book a much organized and useful book, don't waste your time and money on this one! ... There is a lot of information, but it doesn't seem wellorganized.Every time I try to look something up in it, I spend way tomuch time finding the section/example/help I'm looking for.

3-0 out of 5 stars So - So...
This book didn't cover enough of the information I was seeking. The author admits to writing the book for VB4 and reworking it to handle VB5...Go figure.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrid!...1 star only because 0 stars was not an option!
If you like code samples that include: 'Constants for literals: Const FIFTEEN = 15 Const ONE_HALF = 0.5 ... If Err = False then ...

you might find something to like in this book.

In the first 40-50 pages I lost any hope that the book reflected a real understanding of VB, OO concepts, or professional programming.

The material on the included CD totals 7.06 MB (including some duplicate files), with gems like a help file to summarize the new syntax in VB4.0/5.0; here is what is has to say about the new implements keyword: "The Implements statement is listed in the Help file for Beta2 of Visual Basic 5.0 under the heading Statements, but no topic exists for it."

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed with this book
I was very disappointed in the manner that the information was presented.I often found myself searching back through the book to see if I had missed something. There seems to be no real order in which the information is displayed. There were also way to many references to the authors code.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Intro to Object Oriented Programming using VB 5
I liked this book very much. It's a great detailed introduction to object oriented techniques using VB5.It's not a beginners book, you need to know VB to read it.I have heavily underlined every page and also written many of the terms I've come to learn on the sides of the pages. The best parts of the book are the concepts shown via code examples.Fortunately, the book is not one large O-O project... which I've seen in other books. And, it's not a bunch of O-O concept diagrams... as I've seen in others. It's a pleasant mix of practical code, concepts, terminology, and screen shots. The author gives lots of helpful suggestions along the way. Overall I recommend this book highly. If you know VB then this would be a great book on O-O for VB5.He does describe some of the differences between VB4 and VB5.It is very important to learn the new O-O approach using VB.Particularly the use of Active X DLL's. This is the appropriate book to use. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Beginners Book
This book is used at college for helping to teach VB 5.0 in college. It is very good for newbies who don't know anything about visual tools or object oriente/event driven programming. discusses this topic in a good level ofdetail. It introduces the Visual Basic interface. It also teaches how todesign applications, what variables and constants are, programming andlooping techniques (If-Then-Else If)(do-while-loop). It also discussestechniques about accessing files (sequential and random access), errortraping, and arrays. however, towards the end it introduces very poorly thepower of Visual Basic when linking it to DDE, OLE and Databases. Itshould've stayed away from that topic. The book comes with the Visual Basic5.0 Control Creation Edition CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a terrific book!A must have for VB newbies.
I found lots of basic programming info in this book that either wasn't available in other books or wasn't easy to find. I'm a novice programmer and have learned so much doing the projects in this book. The tutorials arebased on what you might be asked to do in the real world, are fairlycomprehensive, and offer so much more than the little "helloworld" type programs other books use to show programming techniques.Highly recommended for newbies to programming and especially VBprogramming!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best for Beginners
I used this in my High School class, and I didn't even need the instructor. Diane's methods are for the very beginner, and the instructions about when to click, got a bit annoying after a while, but it is the bestbook for a beginner that I have seen in a while. The user learns when tolook ahead and see when she is telling you to put in wrong code todemostrate a point, another annoying feature, but easily avoidable. Ishort, this is one of the best books on VB for the beginner that I haveseen.

5-0 out of 5 stars I did better with this book than the teacher teaching it.
I took Visual Basic at our local community college and thankfully had this book to help me understand the basics of VB.The teacher, which was actually a very nice person, couldn't seem to get the students tounderstand the complexity of VB.If it wasn't for this book, I would havegiven up!

1-0 out of 5 stars A fustrated programer
ok, this book teaches just super basic aspect of vb programing. I guess that is recommended for persons who neither have made an application nor have use a windows application in their lives!!

It explains how to usethe VB interface to make an application. I mean, step-by-step how to add acontroler and when you have to click "ok", "next","cancel" and those stuff!!!!

The title of this book should be"Basic programming with MicroSoft Visual Basic 5.0". I'm notsaying that this book is bad or not; just that is for very beginers!!! ... Read more

This guidebook shows you how to be productive quickly usingVisual Basic (VB) tools for the Windows CE platform. The book startswith a guide to installing and using the Microsoft VBCE Toolkit, andthen outlines the major differences between ordinary VB developmentand the (restricted) CE version. After introducing a simpletime-manager sample, Roof offers helpful tips for dealing with thereduced capabilities of hand-held devices.

Next, Roof coversadd-ons to the Microsoft VBCE. He explores ActiveX controls forWindows CE such as the grid, ListView, and TreeView controls. Later,he looks at database programming, using the Windows CE ADO CE SDKadd-on.

Roof spends a good deal of time on the differentconventions of working with files in VBCE, illustrated with a simpleeditor. There are issues specific to the Windows CE platform, such assynchronizing data between desktop PCs and hand-held devices. Hepresents several solutions on this topic (including using the Internetto transfer data), and also includes a chapter on Microsoft's newHTML-based help system.

The book finishes off with two nicelyfunctional samples, an Inventory Manager (which uses bar codes) and aNote Manager (for organizing notes). Illustrated with plenty of screenshots, Professional Visual Basic Windows CE Programmingdelivers a useful guide to the exciting world of Windows CEdevelopment for the Visual Basic programmer. --Richard Dragan ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good basis for productive development
In earlier versions of this work, I found Larry Roof's text and examples to be a very good foundation for VB programmers who are getting into the Windows CE/Pocket PC world. When Microsoft first released Visual Basic for the CE environment, it was a frustrating experience for developers. You were never quite sure which bits of code would work the same and which would not, and the online help and debugging tools were nowhere near the level of "regular" Visual Basic.Well, Microsoft has incrementally improved the product, but a good book on VB for CE is almost essential for any VB programmer who wants to work on the handheld systems. And Larry Roof's book meets that requirement.

I should add that my review is based on material I reviewed prior to the release of this PDF version, but the publisher asked me to review it without providing a copy of the PDF.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good intro & intermediate information
I agree that 'professional' is a stretch with the title. The material's scope is from beginner to intermediate. Also, because I am working with Windows CE 3 & Visual Tools 3, some of the information is clealy dated(time for the next version of the book). However, as an experienced VBdeveloper, new to the windows CE platform, the book was an excellent firststep. There are several books on windows CE, but few devoted to VB &CE.The reason is obvious -- VB tools for Windows CE 3 is very limited, and any serious application development will require C++.I recommend thisbook for VB developers new to the CE platform.Just don't expect to beable to run all the examples as is.

4-0 out of 5 stars Visual Basic Windows CE Programming --- another review
I thought the book was very well documented with helpful examples. One of the other reviews was simply put "out of date". Concepts and ideas never go out of date, and this book is the first one with completeexamples covering topics which are directed at the type of product itsupports. I have not found any other book with the explicit subject matterof VB for CE development as this one. I would suggest this book to anyonewho is interested in getting directly into VB-CE development especiallyASP/internet access for data. Cheers....!

3-0 out of 5 stars Outdated
Most of the content of this book is outdated. The content that it does provide is very lacking. I recommend looking elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great intro to VB CE for an experienced VB programmer.
Although some of the information specific to the VB CE Toolkit installation no longer match the actual install steps, I found this book extremely helpful. The discussion of the controls and the examples areeasily understood.I recommend this book for any experienced VB programmerwho wants to learn VB CE. ... Product Description
A serious book on applications programming using the IBM PC and Microsoft BASIC. No particular mathematical sophistication beyond introductory algebra is required, and most examples are selected primarily from business, but any student will be familiar enough with the concepts to get on to the computer quickly. The text offers many fully documented techniques, including information processing, which illustrate the concepts of 'prototyping' and 'iterative refinement.' Unique in its clear presentation of topics typically deferred to advanced courses or texts, the book includes an introduction to algorithms such as sorting, searching, table look-up, hashing, file processing and more. Other important features include review quizzes - with answers at chapter ends - and a large number of programming problems with data and corresponding correct output. The book may also be of value to users of IBM PC compatible systems. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to Advanced Topics
This book is a great buy for anyone who wants to begin to get into advanced Visual Basic programming. It is difficult for one book to try and cover many advanced topics, such as database programming with SQL integration, dynamic link libraries, and linking to C++ programming, but this book doesn't do a bad job, providing lots of examples. But because of the number of topics it attempts to cover, it doesn't go into the detail that you might want. So, if you want a good foundation in advanced topics, this is an excellent buy. But if you want information on a specific advanced topic, keep looking. Overall - a good buy!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very usefull as an advanced book on visual basic
This book is rather weak on teaching "Advanced" Visual Basic programming.Too much of the book dwells on the basics and too much space is devoted to complete program listings which would be better put on the disk that comes with the book. Many many figures are done with character graphics and look very amateuristic and primitive and are hard to read and understand. I do not recommend this boo ... Read more

The remainder continues to build on fundamentals with additional Windows object-oriented features. Along the way, students develop a solid understanding of program analysis, design, language elements, documentation, control structures, testing, algorithms, input/output processing, file processing, and data structures. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Spasov, Visual Basic
Spasov does OK in explaining most things. It would be easier if I had some previous exposure to Microsoft Visual Basic. My copy of the book had pages 84 to 109 all mixed up. It was an effort to keep looking for the next page.

3-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly disliked...
I used Spasov's Programming for Technology Students in a course this semester and was surprised at the student response to the book: they universally deplored the book.

In selecting the book, I felt that it was an easy to read and easy to understand book that covered the basics of Visual Basic and programming.I still feel that way, however, I'll be changing books next time around.
