High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Saint-Jean-Vianney was a village in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec, which was abandoned after it was partially destroyed in a landslide on May 4, 1971.Saint-Jean-Vianney was originally created as a parish municipality in 1935, and became a village on December 29, 1951. By 1971, the village had a population of 1,266.Located near the shore of the Saguenay River, Saint-Jean-Vianney was - unbeknownst to residents at the time - built atop a bed of unstable Leda clay, a type of subsoil which can liquify under stress. Following unusually heavy rains in April 1971, the clay soil bed at Saint-Jean-Vianney became saturated with water that had failed to run off, causing pockets of clay to gradually dissolve. Over the few weeks leading up to the landslide, cracks were reported in some of the town's streets and driveways, some house foundations dropped roughly six to eight inches into the soil, and some unusual noises - including underground thumps and an untraceable sound of running water - were reported. ... The Bay of Fundy is a bay on the Atlantic coast of North America, on the northeast end of the Gulf of Maine between the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, with a small portion touching the U.S. state of Maine. The Bay of Fundy is known for its high tidal range and the bay is contested as having the highest vertical tidal range in the world with Ungava Bay in northern Quebec and the Severn Estuary in the UK. Some sources believe the name "Fundy" is a corruption of the French word "Fendu", meaning "split", while others believe it comes from the Portuguese fondo , meaning "funnel." The bay was also named Baie Française(French Bay) by explorer/cartographer Samuel de Champlain during a 1604 expedition led by Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Monts which resulted in a failed settlement attempt on St. Croix Island. ... Incorporated in 1903 it grew from a town to a city in 1958, it is mainly an upper-middle class residential suburb of Montreal. Throughout 1920s, the town grew fast and accepted many immigrant populations leaving Montreal, notably German-Jewish, Scottish, and British families and their descendants. By 1935, the population reached 5,000. Côte Saint-Luc was slowly siding railroad development and industrial activities were relocating up north. A perfect example of this is an old warehouse near the intersection of Westminster and Côte Saint-Luc which today became a strip mall. After many years of debate and disagreement, Côte Saint-Luc agreed to the extension of Cavendish Blvd. in Côte Saint-Luc, most likely through an indirect route, to Cavendish Blvd. in the borough of Saint-Laurent, over the Canadian Pacific railyards. ... Product Description
The King's Highway 401 is a highway that extends across Southern Ontario, Canada. It is the longest 400-Series Highway in Ontario, and one of the widest and busiest highways in the world. In fact, the segment of Highway 401 passing through Toronto has the distinction of being North America's busiest freeway. Together with Quebec Autoroute 20, it is the road transportation backbone of the Quebec City-Windsor Corridor, along which over half of Canada's population resides. Colloquially, the road is known simply as the 401, spoken as "four-oh-one." In 1965, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario William Earl Rowe issued an Order-in-Council, on the advice of then-Premier John Robarts, designating Highway 401 the Macdonald-Cartier Freeway, to honour both Sir John A. Macdonald and Sir George-Étienne Cartier, two of the Province of Canada's Fathers of Confederation, and in recognition of Canada's upcoming centennial celebrations in 1967. ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Yamachiche is a municipality in the Mauricie region of the province of Quebec in Canada. The name Yamachiche was first used to identify the Little Yamachiche River (Petite rivière Yamachiche) which runs through the town. It came from the Native American (possibly Cree) words iyamitaw (meaning "much") and achichki (meaning "mud"). Therefore Yamachiche could have the general meaning of "muddy river", which is a characteristic of this stream. In Abenaki, it was identified as Namasis (small fish) and Obamasis (small white fish). In 1653, the area was part of a fief granted to Pierre Boucher de Grosbois, Governor of Trois-Rivières, and in 1672, it was formally ceded to Grosbois. The Grosbois or Machiche Seignory was 1.5 leagues long by 2 leagues deep along the shores of Lac Saint-Pierre. But because of war with the Iroquois, it could not be colonized until the beginning of the 18th century. ... Read more
