5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
I borrowed this book from my local library and actually kept the book past it's library due date...because it is such a great resource. Finally I returned the copy.... however, NOT until after I checked to see if Amazon had a copy for sale!Just my luck (and the library's)... Amazon had a copy.I returned the book and received my own copy from amazon within a few days....I would recommend to anyone...novice or beginner...like me!

3-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good reference
I ordered this book thinking it would give me a great motivation to learn new quilting techniques, but it really didn't.It is a good guide for those techniques you don't know, but I didn't even know how to incorperate some of the techniques into my quilting, so it seemed a little overwhelming. This would maybe be good for a more advanced quilter.I am going to keep it, for the future if I see/hear of a technique I am not familiar with, then I can use it for that. All in all, good info, but not quite as useful as I had hoped.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT TIPS & TRICKS
I just keep finding things I thought I knew how to do all my life that my mother showed me. Now I have much easier ways to do a lot of the things I have been doing with a lot more difficulty!! GREAT reference book that I keep going back to over and over again!!

5-0 out of 5 stars 200 Quilting Tips, Techniques & Trade Secrets: An Indeispensable Reference of Technical Know-How and Troubleshooting Tips
This is a wonderful book for newbie quilters and more experienced quilters alike. The descriptions are clear and easy to understand. The graphics are wonderful with step by step instructions. I have bought a few quilting how to books that I never even looked at again. This one was NOT one of them.A must for every newbie for sure!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Resource
I have recently decided to begin quilting in earnest. I have made two baby quilts before with moderate success, but never quite knew my options as far as binding methods and for home machine quilting. I also felt I had gaps in my knowledge of pattern, techniques and general knowledge.

I picked up this book on the recommendation of a friend and I was very pleased with it. It very thoroughly covers almost everything you might need to knew about quilting. It covers a lot of information, but it is divided into small segments of info so you never feel bogged down with too much information. It has plenty of color photographs and illustrations to reinforce topics.

I can see myself coming back to this book as an easy reference again and again. I highly recommend this book to novice and expert quilters alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fat Quarter Quilting 21 Terrific ...
If you enjoy quick projects and if you love to applique, you will complete your 'quilting' library with this book.
I am currently working on the mini quilt that is on the front cover, and it's coming along
beautifully.
I would highly recommend this book from beginners to advanced quilters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!!!
This book is exactly as I hoped it would be.Beautiful designs, lots of applique and fabrics used are current so I have many already in my fabric stash.I have started the wall hanging on the cover and am loving it!! My 9-year-old grand daughter wants to sew the little dresden plate. Can't get them started too early, right?

Highly recommend this book to any quilter.

Gale W. - a Kentucky quilter

5-0 out of 5 stars 21 small projects
Appliqué, piecing and scraps - what do these things have in common? They have the book, FAT QUARTER QUILTING.Each project is only 16" x 20" so you will be able to create one in a weekend.

Personally, I never leave a pattern alone.I always have to change something! So, for me, I will simply make the blocks larger and have a wonderful lap or twin size quilt. And the best part is that if I want a wall hanging to match the quilt, I already have the pattern!

There are five pages of basic quilting information and the templates for appliqué are provided at full size. The instructions are easy to follow and have plenty of graphics for us visual folks. An easy to follow cutting list tells you what to cut from what fabric.Assembly instructions are provided but there aren't any quilting suggestions --- just the normal "quilt as desired".

With 21 projects, you will find one to suit your taste or that of someone for which you need a handmade gift.Happy quilting!

5-0 out of 5 stars A pick for any avid quilter
FAT-QUARTER QUILTING packs in twenty-one 16" x 20" projects as guidelines on how to use fat quarter materials, teaching how to connect a range of prints and how to change them into quilts using fat quarters with no piecing, piecing, or applique techniques alike. Directions for samplers, blocks and more make for outstanding, polished quilting results in a pick for any avid quilter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this Book!
I absolutely love this book!I've already made one quilt from it and plan to make several more..actually...I know I'll make many, many more!I love Lori's designs having already made a couple of her larger quilts...and these are wonderful because you can finish them quickly.Lori's designs work well with all types of fabrics from traditional as shown to more modern fabrics. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent self-guided class
I bought this book when I first became serious about making quilts - the book was beautiful to look at but I thought that the projects and techniques for free motion quilting were too far ahead of me, so I set it aside.

Out of sight is out of mind and recently I "found" it, again - like buried treasure in my book closet. I opened it again with fresh eyes and found it quite inspirational. Lessons and hints and projects from so many quilting experts - wonderful methods and motifs and ideas.

I think now that if I had started doing the exercises back when I bought the book and treated it like a class, I might be a lot more adept by now at quilting my quilts. Instead, I pretty much learned everything the hard way. (Not that there's anything wrong with that - but how much simpler to benefit from someone else's experience and skill when you first start building your own.) The exercises follow a natural progression and if I had just done them, even the most difficult looking designs would have been possible for me to follow by the time I got to them.

One side note - there are hundreds of quilt books and magazines - some in virtually every room of this house, but this book contains the only quilt that my husband has ever seen and said, "I want you to make that one!" (Autumn Trellis) And while I'd say that it isn't a beginner's project, it isn't out of the realm of possibility any more, either.

I learned a lot while reading the book a second time and have already been able to put some of it into practice. I will keep this one around for a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Help to build your quilting skills
This is a beautiful book. I borrowed it from library and have to keep one so I ordered from Amazon. I really like the 12 easy-to-follow lessons that help you to practice and build up the basic quilting skills. The projects are also beautiful and inspiring.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter Steps to quilting

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy Machine Quilting
Am very satisfied with the book, price and delivery time.Would purchase from this seller again.

Skillfully drafted and endlessly varied, the wealth of stitching patterns in 250 Continuous-Line Quilting Designs ought to satisfy many quilters looking for interesting motifs to enliven a project. Author Laura Lee Fritz lays brief but good groundwork for planning out the pattern on the quilt top and transferring designs, then devotes virtually the entire book to the designs themselves. Her extensive repertoire of motifs is divided into seven categories that include animals, domestic objects, botanicals, and abstracts. From a simple geometric to a detailed creature to an intricate scene, these designs should please quilters of various skill levels. --Amy Handy ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 250 Continuous-Line
Great practise book. Lots of designs. Good addition to a machine quilting library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Free Form Quilting Resource
Excellent resource of wonderful free form expressive quilting designs. Not your traditional patterns, but very usable & spontaneous designs. If you want to quilt "off the beaten path" this book is for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very satisfied
Yes, the book does provide you with 250 continuous line designs; however, I couldn't find more than a few that I would even consider using. The patterns are very child-like and may be appropriate if one was quilting for a baby or child. The book is nicely segmented by area (bird, animals etc.) Very few instructions, only the basics. For me, it wasn't worth the price and had I had the chance to see it before purchasing, it would not be in my library.A good choice if you want a way to quilt outlines of animals, plants, and birds.

5-0 out of 5 stars terrific inspiration for machine quilters
This book is completely unique in the world of quilting designs. All are intended for use with a sewing machine, although it need not be a longarm quilting machine.I did fine with several of them on a regular Bernina.I am sick to death of precise, cutesy feathers and hearts. This book was like a fresh breeze coming through, letting me see machine quilting in a whole new way.Not only have I used the designs, I have been able to invent some of my own using inspiration from this book. Most of all, it loosened me up.Straight, perfect lines are NOT always best. These naturalistic, freeform designs were just what I needed.AND the book is so [inexpensive], how can you go wrong?

1-0 out of 5 stars Uninspiring
The designs in this book are uninspiring and not even well done.It is Ok to have the outline of a dog as a quilt design, but it should be well executed and not look like it was done by an amateur.I have picked this book up a half dozen times, but was never inspired to buy it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!Very accurate!
Jenny Carr-Kinney has hit a home run! This book is very authentic. I love this book so much, that I purchased it for a gift for another quilter. I believe Mrs. Carr-Kinney is one of the few Master Quilters in the US.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now You Can Really Finish Your Quilt!
Don't we quilters all love to pick our design, plan our colors and piece our blocks and tops. And then what?If you're like me, I'm usually in a muddle about how to quilt my beautiful creation.Although this book features quilting patterns from 1810 to 1940, I found that they are just as viable for today's quilts and very, very helpful to me when deciding just how I should quilt my finished top.The instructions and suggestions are just great, but, best of all, these are quilting patterns you can do on your own sewing machine (no long-arm needed), and they still look elaborate and beautiful.(Of course, you can also do them by hand, but I usually opt for the sewing machine - one of these days, I will master hand quilting.)An excellent book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quilting Designs From The Past 1810-1940

5-0 out of 5 stars Best quilting pattern book on the market

5-0 out of 5 stars Follow-the-line-quilting Designs Volume Two: Full-size Patterns for Blocks And Borders
A treasure of designs for designing your own quilt outlines.
Takes the work out of planning your machine quilting design.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not so much a book as a box of patterns for tracing
Mary M. Covey's FOLLOW-THE-LINE QUILTING DESIGNS V. 3: FULL-SIZE PATTERNS FOR BLOCKS AND BORDERS is not so much a book as a box of patterns for tracing, transferring and stitching, presented in full size for easy use. Twenty new pattern groups including designs for blocks, borders and setting triangles and can be used on a regular home sewing machine or by hand alike - as well as on a long-arm quilting machine for professionals. An outstanding, flexible guide.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Nice Selection of Patterns
I recently bought a long-arm so of course I "needed" more patterns. I bought her first and second book/box of patterns, and friends bought me this 3rd set.The border patterns work well as pantographs on the long-arm and there are matching "block" and "triangle" motifs for each design. Each one has a nice variety of patterns - curvey, geometric, for kids, floral, etc... This 3rd set is definetly more challenging than the previous sets.

5-0 out of 5 stars The place to start for finishing your quilt
Between the instructional booklet and all the patterns for quilting a quilt, you will have all the information you need to complete your quilt in FOLLOW-THE-LINE QUILTING DESIGNS.The booklet that comes with the patterns explains how the quilt designs are laid out and defines the markings found on each pattern.

As any quilter knows, sizing patterns are not the easiest thing to do but Ms. Covey has provided areas where you can lengthen or shorten a pattern with ease.If that is not the option you want to take, you can use her suggested Quilter's Assistant Proportional Scale and then make photocopies to the size you want.

Marking - which way to go.There are pens, pencils, tape, chalk or even a no-mark method.Read over the options and choose the one that works for the quilt you are doing.Don't forget the 3 B's of finishing ---- backing, batting and basting. The pages devoted to these will make this an easy job.And finally, will you quilt by hand, machine or long-arm?The suggestions given here will make this part of finishing the quilt easier too.

The patterns come in a plasticized package. There are 19 designs from a farm to baby to geometric designs to name a few.You should be able to find one to fit the theme of your quilt. They come in corners, blocks and borders so every place you need a pattern, you will have one that is made for that area and since the designs are all in continuous-line motifs, you will not have to stop until you are finished!Happy Quilting.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Making Progress Practicing Hand Quilting, Using this Book!
The pictures and text got me started at something I'd believed was MUCH harder than it IS!I'm getting lots of practice on a twin-bed quilt for a granddaughter.Other remarks and suggestions in the text have been really helpful ... they have overcome some worries, and now I don't feel so alone and inept, because Alex Anderson writes about difficulties I had already discovered.Having a choice of where to wear a thimble, and coverage for both right-handed and left-handed people is GREAT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hand Quilting instructions....
This is a great little inexpensive book to use as reference for anyone who want to learn to hand quilt. The illustrations are very good. Helps one know what you should be doing with your hands as you learn and practise the technique of hand quilting. I've been hand quilting for quite a while, and had been impressed with this book when I first saw it years ago in the quilting shop where I worked. Finally decided to find and buy it on Amazon, and have it available for new hand quilters, specifically my sisters.

3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Hand Quilting Instructions
I read this book before I started to hand quilt. It was thorough and detailed but still not enough.I had to find someone to show me how to hand quilt, so I could see it visually. The book, in my opinion, did not stress the need to push up underneath the quilt with your forefinger or middle finger. It only took someone 5 minutes for me to understand how to quilt and two weeks of practice.I now quilt 7-8 stitches per inch.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hand Quilting with Alex Anderson: Six Projects for Hand Quilters (Quilting Basics) (Paperback)

Even if you have never tried needle turn applique, this book is really helpful. Once you look thru it, you will understand why these quilts take so long to complete. I am grateful i found this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hawaiian Quilting: Instructions and Full Size Patterns for 20 Blocks
When I was a student at school, the most common behaviour statement I received in the whole 12 years of education was "Judith is easily distracted". I used to think that was a bad thing, but as I've aged I've come to appreciate that being distracted is a positive in my character. I believe the fact that I'm easily distracted is the reason I have such a vast love of so many of the genres of quilting. I find it hard to concentrate on one project at a time; I find it hard not to be attracted to new fabrics and ideas. It's just me.

So it will come as no surprise to those who know me that I've taken another direction in my quilting learning curve. I've always had a fascination for Hawaiian Quilting. It's a genre of quilting that has intrigued me for a very long time. But I've always thought it was out of my ability. I love to Needleturn appliqué, but never thought I could manage such complex pattern. One day a few weeks ago, I decided to go surfing for the afternoon, looking for interesting information on Hawaiian Quilting. To my utter surprise, there's a plethora of information floating out there, as well as many capable and very creative proponents of this awesome genre.

So this brings me to the book I wish to present to you this week. It's title Hawaiian Quilting - Instructions and Full-Size patterns for 20 blocks by Elizabeth Root. Elizabeth resides on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu with numerous rescued animals and plenty of time to design.

Firstly, Elizabeth takes her time to bring you up to date with interesting background about the origins and history of this fascinating art form. Hawaiian Quilting - Instructions and Full-Size patterns for 20 blocks is a very user friendly reference book for those wishing to commence their journey into Hawaiian Quilting. I've always found it quite difficult to understand the instructions for folding your pattern paper into eight, but Elizabeth's instructions are so straight forward and easy to understand, I wish I'd come across this publication much sooner.

There is much concentration on explaining the obvious in this book - something I need and appreciate. The general instructions consist of instructions for creating a Hawaiian Quilt, specifically - cutting the pattern, laying and tacking the pattern to the background, and appliquéing the design. So many quilting books offer generic information about quilting, and fail to concentrate on the particular genre they are espousing. I like the way Elizabeth has gone about getting the information to the reader.

Consideration has also been given to the presentation of the 20 patterns. Each pattern is on its own page, with a blank page behind it. No chance of chasing the incorrect line when tracing.

This book was first published way back in1989, but is absolutely timeless and as fresh as the day it was launched. Dover Publications have printed this and several others in the Hawaiian Quilts genre.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cant lose with Alex Anderson
Machine Quilting with Alex Anderson: 7 Exercises, Projects & Full-Size Quilting Patterns.I have many of her books. They are easy to read and use and will not break the bank.I go over and over them always learning somthing new.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I am new to machine quilting and have been searching for some good books on the subject. After reading this book, it seemed as though the publisher wanted to use the star quality of the author to sell another book. The book is LESS than a Readers Digest condensed version on the subject of machine quilting. There is not much good detailed instruction. The best book that I have found so far on machine quilting is "Heirloom Machine Quilting" by Harriet Hargrave (extremely detailed instruction.)

I would recommend however; Alex Andersons' book, "Beautifully Quilted".She gives good instruction on how to create your own quilting designs.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Only Alex Book I Returned
I was disappointed with this book. I found the samples of the right and wrong ways hard to follow on the loud print fabric. I wanted a step by step lesson process to follow. The book was more about the quilt patterns than the actual quilting. Please don't get me wrong, I love Alex Anderson and a lot of her books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great teaching book
This is a great book on how to machine quilt. I am a novice and have a lot to learn and this book has proved to be very helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful book!
I have been wanting to learn more about machine quilting my own quilts. I borrowed a copy of this book and it was very interesting and gave me some great ideas. Of course I had to buy my own copy. I found it to be easy to understand and fun to read too. I can't wait to put the things I learned into practice ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Collaborative Quilting
This is such a good book. I used to get it from the library on a regular basis. It not only has quilts to make, but it isan interesting view of the 2 writers life & interests. I think as I read it over again, it is almost like they are friends that I know.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a joy!!
I have owned this book for quite some time, yet I find myself going back to it over and over again. That's just the kind of book it is. The colors! The inspiration! The personalities of the two artists! I love every bit of it. Gwen Marston has always been my favorite quiltmaker/teacher/author. And since this book, Freddy ranks right up there with her. And the pictures of Freddy's studio are wonderful. I promise you if you purchase this book you will never let it go.
P.S. As soon as I can afford it I plan on buying their second "collaboration."

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I thought
I thought this book would be more about the online quilting community and it turns out it is all about two people only.My bad-I should have read the description better before I bought it but was willing to get over my own bad research and look at the quilts themselves. All I can say is that this is not my style at all and I will be returning it.

Both my Left Brain and Right Brain got infused and enthused at the same time Yeow!!!! I love the collaborative book becasue of the decision making process, pictures of their homes, but most of all because of discussions and pictures of their quilts. I've gotten ideas from every picture viewed!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful little book of ideas!
I love looking at how people organize their sewing rooms. This was a great resource book for me.It will make you want to reorganize your sewing space too!Lots of pictures and ideas.

3-0 out of 5 stars Quilting Space not so perfect.
I was anxious to receive this book because I had read the other reviews, and wanted to see for myself.I agree that the other Sewing Spaces BookDream Sewing Spaces: Design & Organization for Spaces Large & Small that I have is better.I wouldn't really recommend this one Creating Your Perfect Quilting Space: Sewing-Room Makeovers for Any Space And Any Budgetover that.I love books, and Sewing Places and Spaces books are among my favs.I'll keep this one, but if someone wants it I'll definitely give it away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of Creating Your Perfect Quilting Space
This is a fabulous book! The pictures alone are worth the cost of the book to me.I am going to reorganize my sewing room as soon as our contractor installs an egress window in it. (My sewing room is in our basement.)I can hardly wait to use the suggestions in this book to help me have a neater, more usable and attractive sewing room.I highly recommend this book for anyone who sews.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for me
I really enjoyed this book.I got a lot of great ideas and I immediately put some of them into use.I do like that the author gave examples of different quilting room makeovers and added up the cost of each. They ranged from very inexpensive to expensive.By using the worksheets, I was able to pinpoint what I wanted and needed in my own area.I was able to do what I needed for around $200, but I bought new cabinets from Home Depot and put them together myself. If I had been able to find something similar at a yard sale, I am sure it would have been even cheaper. The reason I went to Home Depot is that I already had another piece from there and the cabinets were an exact match which now looks great.

One of the best ideas I got was to make an ironing space higher than my regular ironing board.I got a board cut to my cabinet's top and covered it with padding and fabric. It really looks great and my husband even uses it, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Machine Quilting Solutions- Far from dull
I, like many on Amazon, rely on reviews that are written specifically about the item you are thinking about purchasing.I did purchase this book after reading the majority of the reviews, out of 19 reviews, 17 gave 5 stars, 1 gave 4 stars and 1 gave a 2 star. The majority got it right with this one for certain!

I am on a quest to teach myself free motion machine quilting. I have a few other fine books as well, that I am also using to try and achieve my goals.

This book, like most, goes over the basics about the machine setup, thread and how to get started. Also how to develop muscle memory, which is very important.

But what sets this great book apart from some of my other books, it actually shows you common quilts that we all have probably done and how to decode it to see what designs will work best for it.

This is not a book of patterns per say, this is a book to get yourown thinking cap on & working to learn how to make your own quilts stand out above the rest. As others have stated, she shows you several motifs on the same type of quilt and it gives you the needed push to use your imagination, instead of simply following a predetermined motif, without much thought process involved.

I don't care for quilt kits to start with. I like designing my own, cutting out my own fabric. So it stands to reason this book is going to be a wonderful way to finally move forward and decide for myself what designs will work best and why, as this book is full of information on how to get there successfully.

So if you are like me who loves to learn and take your creativity to a new level- this is a must have book for you.
If you are a very experienced free motion quilter looking for patterns, I still think gaining another perspective can be beneficial for you too. There are always many ways to accomplish the same thing and this might just be what clicks for you as well.

EXCELLENT book with plenty of photos, diagrams and pointers from a very experienced quilter, Christine Maraccini!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best quilting book I've seen
Like most quilting fanatics, I own a lot of quilting books. Very few of them belong in the "must have" category, but this is one of them. I've only had the book in my hands for twenty minutes, so I'm looking forward to giving it a thorough read later, but a quick look is all it takes to know that this book is a keeper.

I do all my quilting on domestic sewing machines of various vintages, so I was especially happy to find that the instructions aren't aimed primarily at long-arm quilters. The designs are suitable for either type of machine - or even hand quilting.

The clear and illustrated explanation for an easier way of accomplishing trapunto was worth the price of admission, and the detailed diagrams for all the continuous free-motion designs are wonderful.

I love that the author shows you how to decide how to quilt a quilt by its eventual purpose. My quilts are all bedcovers and utilitarian at this point - simple piecing and borders. But, I'm tired of the same all-over spirals and swirls and stippling. I've started to practice the more elaborate types of quilting designs on these ordinary, simple quilts in preparation for the beautiful quilts that I aspire to make "someday." This book has given me a huge burst of enthusiasm for planning the quilt and quilting it.

I can hardly wait to get the next quilt top made - I will be sure to design in some great spaces to add that trapunto!

If you have trouble coming up with a plan for quilting your quilts, or if you're tired of doing the same old all-over loops and spirals, you need this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
As a very novice longarm quilter, I am so very happy that I purchased this book!I'm tracing the patterns with a pen and paper (muscle memory)and now have the confidence to begin practice the heat wave patttern on my longarm.I especially value Ms. Maraccini's advice concerning batik fabric. As I am teaching myself how to use the longarm, this book is an enormous resource.

2-0 out of 5 stars a bit dull
this a a classic how-to book nothing more. the designs are dull, many of the pictures seem computer/photoshop graphics which didn't inspire me at all. the instructions are to the point and do explain how to sew a quilt but other books have good instructions and inspirational designs as well as beautiful pictures. all in all- nothing to write home about, sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quilting In No Time
This quilting book by Emma Hardy, has a lot of cute and easy patterns and ideas. This is a great book and so glad I bought it and highly recommend to any woman who loves to sew. She has other books also that are well worth buying.Emma Hardy has great ideas.

3-0 out of 5 stars Misleading Title
Nice book but title is a little misleading!Several of the 50 projects were just duplicate patterns filed under a different name, what was a beach bag in one section became a tote bag in another and a laundry bag in yet another catagory. Same holds true for a crib blanket that became a wall hanging and then a rug!Knock the title down to maybe "30 Step-by-step Weekend Projects" and it would probably be more accurate. There are some very cute projects that can indeed be finished in a weekend, even for a novice quilter. So even with just 30 projects I'll be stitching for a while!

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new here
I own a ton of quilting books and am always looking for some new inspiration and know not to expect too much from a 'quick and easy' approach to quiltmaking, but this book completely fell flat.I was hoping for some new inspiration for quick quilts but found nothing that I haven't seen a million times before. This book is totally uninspired and would give it 2 stars only because if this is the very first quilt book you ever buy it would be fine (not great or even good, but fine).

5-0 out of 5 stars Quilting in no time
To me, this is a great book! I say that because it provides simple yet complete directions for all the projects, it is what I refer to as "joyful" to browse through and the projects really can be completed in a weekend IF you purchase your fabric first. And I say that because if you don't already have a pretty good sized stash and have to go shopping, this can be very time consuming in itself especially since it's not always easy to find exactly what you're looking for at the first place you go. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Learning to machine quilt
I really loved this book.It is packed with all kinds of information for machine quilting. This is talking about the stitching design on the finished quilt. You will not find step by step directions for quilt patterns but they do include some basic information on just about everything regarding the quilt.Wonderful book for learning how to machine quilt with easy to understand directions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative
Has a lot of basic information and is a good read for someone who is just getting started in the quilting world. If you have been in it for awhile and looking for more tips and time saving techniques, however, this is not the book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well written Machine Quilting book
What a helpful book! Fast and Fun Machine Quilting is a well written, well illustrated machine quilting book. A beginning quilter could follow the instructions in this book to produce a quilt that does not look like a beginner's project. All instructions are accompanied by illustrations for those of us who learn better visually and can be referred back to as you work, to serve as a reminder of what the next step will be or to confirm that you're following instructions.

Hints for shortcuts or ways of working more efficiently are included throughout the book. These serve to help a new quilter build on their basic knowledge (also found in the book), and enjoy the process of learning a craft that preserves an old tradition or even takes it in new directions.

This book should be in every machine quilter's library!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast and Fun Machine Quilting
I am working at owning all the volumes in the series. I love their presentation and layout. They explain techniques simply and thoroughly and illustrate each step in the process with full color pictures.
I am an experienced quilter and came across a copy of one of the books in this series about a year ago when one of the creators was a guest at my quilt guild meeting. There is probably not a whole lot I can learn from them, but I do some quilting teaching and these are wonderful tools for illustrating the techniques and sharing shortcuts and methods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
I just received this book yesterday and couldn't put it down.Being a new quilter (very new), this book answered by many, many questions and did it in a colorful, precise manner.I highly recommend this book to new quilters, such as myself.Well worth the few dollars it cost.Buy it ... you will not regret it. ... Product Description

Focusing on design rather than technique, this guide demonstrates how a motif can be rotated, reflected, or repeated to create an entirely new quilt pattern. Thirty base elements are provided in several sizes for easy tracing, scanning, or photocopying, and step-by-step instructions explain how to arrange copies of the chosen element to create border, corner, block, or frame designs. Illustrations show examples of assembled patterns, and the last chapter provides directions for adding trapunto, a padding technique that adds depth and definition. The DVD counterpart brings the discussion to life as the author creates a custom quilt design based on a single geometric figure, marks a quilt top, and demonstrates three different trapunto projects.

Product Description

Thirty-year-old techie Dewey Pellicano is trying to make a go of Quilter Paradiso, the quilt shop she inherited from her mother. But she's facing a patchwork of problems—fierce competition, an uncooperative employee (who also happens to be Dewey's sister-in-law) and, oh yes, a dead body in the alley. Dewey pins her hopes on the store's huge 20th anniversary sale and appearance on national television. With the help of her smolderingly hot detective boyfriend Buster Healy, can Dewey save her shop and find the killer?

Praise for Terri Thayer's Wild Goose Chase"Cutting-edge drama deftly sliced to reveal the sass beneath the surface of the quilting business." —Margaret Miller, author of AnglePlay Blocks"Put down your piecework, brew yourself a cup o'Joe, fill up a snack bowl, and laze around the yard this spring with this amusing quilt-themed mystery." —Mark Lipinski's Quilter's Home Magazine

5-0 out of 5 stars old maid's puzzle
I love Terri Thayer, She is an exellent writer and she really knows how to keep your interest in a quilting myster. You could not have done any better...

5-0 out of 5 stars Light-hearted read
Enjoyed this second book in Thayer's trilogy so much that I bought the other 2 titles and am disappointed there aren't more available.Told my quilt shop owner that she should stock these books as it gives the rest of us insight into her issues of owning a shop. This is a great, light-hearted mystery with fun characters.I'd recommend it to all quilters and mystery genre fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars For mystery AND quilting fans!
Ms. Thayer really does a nice job of character development, creating lots of dynamics.Being from the area that is the setting of the book makes me feel right at home. The author does a wonderful job of describing the area! She is also good at dropping enough hints and clues to keep the reader guessing. These quilting mysteries are made for someone who loves mysteries AND quilting!

1-0 out of 5 stars Sex Novel
By the time I read the first full page I was done with the book.It was a sex scene.I was glad that I didn't get into the story before I found out what this book was really about and it wasn't quilting.I was also glad I had borrowed it from the library to see if I liked this author.Don't waste your money. If I could have, I would have givenit "No Stars."

5-0 out of 5 stars Good read
I enjoyed "Old Maid's Puzzle". Some readers I see do not care for the opening. However, that is no reason the give it a poor rating. You don't like that part skip over it. It's not crucial to the story. The mystery is good. A couple of long time quilting friends has a disagreement that turns deadly. Dewey takes on the task of trying to figure out who is who and what is going on. All this is happening while Dewey tries to get ready for the store's anniversary sale and dealing with her sister-in-law/employee. This is the second of Terri Thayer's Quilting Mystery series,I'm looking forward to the third book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 250 continuous-line quilting designs...
Laura Lee's designs are innovative and can be adapted to any size
and style. It avoids the all over "quilted bedroom look"of the quilts
than can be purchased in department stores.A bit quirky and
definitely fun.A good addition to any machine quilting library..
suitable for long arm also. Make YOUR quilt individual by unleashing
the creative spirit in you that this book engenders.

Here is a super collection of good quilting designs that can be used with a table-top sewing machine. Here I have master designs I can use myself rather than send my quilts out to my long-arm quilter friends.I love the variety in this book.Glad to have it in my quilting library.
