4-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational

Nice to find this book that has simple alternatives to the usual stippling. They are indeed original, continuous line designs and 'mindful' in that the designs are not just random scribblings or meanderings but quilting designs that will enhance your work by adding a constructive element.I gave it only 4 stars as there are precious few words and no recommendations as to how to use them.I suspect Ms. Fritz focused on what the reader needed most - ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars quilting Book
I always buy used books if possible because they are generally in great shape. This was no exception.Arrived quicker than I expected and at a great price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
The description from Amazon in the "Editorial Review" was not helpful at all; "a lighthearted touch to any quilt with 132 contemporary continuous-line designs for both hand and machine quilting." I thought this would have some helpful ideas on how to be a mindful meanderer, but that is clearly not the book's purpose. This book is simply 132 pictures of continuous designs for quilting and very little more. If you want ideas for designs this might be the book for you. I did get a few ideas of some neat things to try. I will add it to my library of quilting books for now.

5-0 out of 5 stars I like it
It's not really a book to read, it's a book full of the "doodles" that are machine quilting. It has some with themes like dogs, trees, dinosaurs, holly, alphabet, sailboats, gulls, teepees, musical notes, sharks, trains, and people. These cannot be found on the internet, so to me this book is a real find.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Marriage
This is a book that gives me some great ideas and I really admire what the authors have done. I would have liked a little more detail with the 'how to' side of things, but that is my impatience at not wanting to start with the easy one first. Also, in order to achieve this standard, I will be buying so many fabrics. That said, I can use my dyeing skills to produce my own fabrics.Being a painter first and quilter second, there are some beautiful illustrations of combining the two mediums and I would recommend it to those with even basic painting skills. With the fabric markers available now, the embellishment side of the book should not pose a problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Art of Landscape Quilting
Very informative book.Inspiring photographs.I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in landscape quilting.

5-0 out of 5 stars The art of landscape quilting
Landscape quilting has alway looked so hard but this book makes it look more doable
I have started collecting fabric and photographs of my flowers that I will try.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very inspiring
A good how to book using products most quilter's would have on hand. Clearly and thoughtfully set out with text and pictures showing step by step instructions that create fabulous effects. A book that can be adapted to your own admired landscapes. Fab!

3-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, BUT...
Starting with the positive: this book is beautiful to look at and gives highly detailed instructions for the techniques necessary to create lovely landscape quilts. It even goes so far as to show the actual quilt, step-by-step as it is created. The authors are experienced and the illustrations are abundant and lovely.
More positive: many of the quilts are printed side-by-side with the photos that inspired them, so the reader can see how to move from idea to quilt -- what to include, what to leave out. The authors talk the reader through choosing elements and translating them from picture or idea to fabric.
More positive: the original fabrics are pictured for each quilt so you can see what you can start with and pp. 12-15 show groupings of fabrics for various landscape elements, demonstrating the variety and the scale that is useful.
So, what is the problem?
Two problems: first, most of the quilts are relatively large (3 feet X 4 feet or larger) which makes them very hard for those with limited space to create or copy. Even technique depends on a certain scale to be effective and this scale is large. Trying to fussy cut flowers or leaves for a quilt or wall-hanging 2 feet x 2 feet is quite a different animal than doing so for a 4 foot long quilt! But the time and financial investment in larger quilts is high and making mistakes is costly.
Second, this is NOT a book for a novice. There is the expectation that before one starts the first quilt, one will have taken at least one or two quilting courses and, of course, have a costly quilting machine. Unfortunately, this expectation doesn't appear until the last chapter.
I am probably unusual as a reader in my willingness to jump in at the deep end, and I may also be unusual in the fact that I don't have a quilting machine, only an ordinary sewing machine. But I have a bias that quilting should not be restricted to those who have $1000 or more to sink into the project before they begin. This is a book filled with inspiration, but -- when all is said and done -- it is hard (if not impossible) to get some of these effects without all the special equipment.

This book is sure to become a classic among all books on the subject. The instructions are clear and accurate - easy enough for even a first-time quiltmaker to follow. The many color pictures throughout the book will inspire you to want to make a quilt in every single pattern!

5-0 out of 5 stars You mean I can't give this 10 stars!
This book is INCREDIBLE! The projects are so beautiful, and they are really easy. But you would never know just by looking at them. So you can really impress people when you make these! I am still a beginner, and thisshould have been my first book. I kept buying book after book to try tofigure out how to do the binding on my quilt. None of them explained itvery well. But this one did! It also gave great tips for machine quiltingand piecing. You do have to own a sewing machine to use this book or youwill never be able to do all the strip piecing. I'm just really surprisedthat I found a book that had so many quilts I actually wanted to make. Ilike these because they are very symmetrical and coordinated. I don'treally care for quilts that are fancy designs and every block is differentpatterns. I like these, made up of strips and squares to makecomplicated-looking but easy to make quilts. And they are all so differnet! How she came up with all these combinations, I don't know! You will not beable to put this book down! I think it is a very worthwhile purchase. Ialso like the way she wrote it. I have a couple of quilt books where theauthor may make nice quilts, but can't write a book at all. So this one wasa great addition to my library.

This book's condition was exactly as described by the seller, perhaps even a bit better. It arrived quickly and I am well pleased with the transaction.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Quilting Bible
I love it.It is easy to follow and answers the most basic questions in easy to understand language. The pictures are clear and easy to follow. Well worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Complete Reference Book
If you want detail for every step of the quilting process, this is the book for you.It tells you what size needle to use for piecing vs. quilting; type of thread; types of batting; fabric quality; stitch length; how to determine the grain of the fabric; how to press seams; how to assemble a quilt; quick tips for cutting and sewing; how to make borders; the best way to fold and store a quilt; how to create articles other than a bed quilt (purse, tote bag, place mats, pillow covers, table runner, clothing); what equipment you need; how to organize your work space; how to move a full-size quilt through your machine.I took my highlighter and went crazy. It could be a bit daunting for a beginner so I would pair this book with Marsha McCloskey's "Quick Classic Quilts" (for traditional quilts) or with Margaret Rolfe's "A Quilter's Ark" (for contemporary foundation quilts with animal designs). They have much abbreviated instructions that would be easier to follow for a first-time quilter. Then I would use "The Quilting Bible" as a reference to make sure I understood the techniques to get truly professional results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another excellent sewing reference from Singer!
I think this book is great!I borrowed a friend's, and I just can't give it back!I have done some quilting before, but have learned so much more from this book.Great photographs - and very helpful information.I highly recommend this book for any quilter!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners!
I am a complete newbie to quilting...in fact, I haven't even made one yet.I read through this entire book and felt so overwhelmed and lost at the same time.I feel it is a bit over a newbie's head but probably excellentfor a person who has quilted before. It has beautiful photos of variousquilting patterns and is written in a very concise manner.I am onlydisappointed in the fact that I would consider a "bible" to bebasic enough for anyone.I am going to purchase another bookinstead...called "Quilts, quilts, quilts The complete Guide toQuiltmaking" by Diana McClun.Everyone I know who quilts hasrecommended it to me. ... These two books go hand in hand to become the very heart of your crazy quilting library. Motifs for Crazy Quilting is more than just motifs. It is the greatest motivational publication for you to feast your eyes and get your head spinning on fantastics ideas for embellishment.

This book concentrates on providing motifs for embroidery to compliment and enhance your seam embellishments. There are so many fantastic motifs available in this book, you really won't need to search for anything more. It's all here. From subjects such as animals, flowers, fans, feathers, fruits, hearts, horses, shells, spiders, trees, vegies, water and wreaths and lots more I haven't mentioned here, there is simply no motif idea left unexplored. Together with these very fine hand drawn motifs, come some great tips on how to use them, where they are best placed on your cloth, the types of threads recommended for use and lots more ideas and information.

Quilt making is a natural outlet for kids' innate creativity. Take children on a field trip to the fabric or quilt store and you'll be refreshed by their free-spirited approach to color and amazed by their fearlessness in the face of traditional quilting "rules." Just about any 9- to 14-year-old can turn out a stupendous quilt with some adult supervision and the terrific guidance of noted expert Alex Anderson's Kids Start Quilting. Stressing safety first, Anderson introduces kids to the rotary cutter, iron, and sewing machine, as well as the other essentials. She covers all the basics of quilt anatomy, explaining how to square up, cut, pin, stitch, and press the pieces, plus how to handle settings, borders, backing, batting, basting, binding, tying, and hand quilting. The seven nicely designed step-by-step quilt projects include log cabin, four-patch, saw tooth star, and sampler designs. A kids' quilt gallery features works by the six young quilters--both girls and boys--who collaborated on the book with Anderson, and quotes from the kids and photos of them at work on their quilts provide even more encouragement to other young quilters. --Amy Handy ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Skimpy
I love Alex but the book is a little too skimpy with only five blocks to choose from.

I am also surprised at the lack of photos on hand quilting.Hand quilting really needs way more illustrations and not just on burying the knot!Even the section on hand tying lacks illustrations!! If you put it in the book, you should show us how it is done so we can see it.A book on the basics should include the basics!

It is still a good book, but after having both books by Barbara Eikmeier I can say it isn't the best book I have seen on the subject.A nice addition after you have the others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Teaching Tool
Alex Anderson is among the best in teaching quilting methods. This book is a great teaching tool for children of all ages. 2-0 out of 5 stars Blah!
I am quite disappointed with this book.It may or may not contain useful information, but I won't ever know. The text is too large for the page size, the paper on which the text is printed looks rough and yellowed, and the drawings are just rough line sketches that are really hard to make out.Everything about the book is so unattractive and boring that it's just too much trouble to try to get through it.Wish I hadn't wasted my time and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful teaching book
This is one of the easiest books to understand on the subject of hand quilting.Ami Simms is a wonderful teacher.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book that changed my quilting history
I had almost given up on quilting by hand because I just wasn't satisfied with the results I got. I had resigned myself to being a machine quilter only, when I happened on this book at a quilt show. Thinking I had nothingto lose, I bought it, took it home, read it, practiced Ami's techniques fora few hours and I've never looked back. No matter how many people had triedto show me how to hand quilt, or how many other books I had read on thesubject, no one laid it out as clearly and concisely, step-by-step, as Ami.I've since gone on to make many quilts-all hand-quilted- with stitches I'mproud to say have been admired by many! So if you're new to quilting, oreven if you're not, this book is an absolute must for every quilter'sbookshelf. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Takes my quiting up a notch .
I got this wonderful book today and scanned the pages a bit. Since I am not a novice quilter I went straight to the free motion quilting instruction, which is why I purchased it. I love how Ms. Frable has broken the entire learning process down, on a mental and physical basis. She gives good clear understandable instruction and there are plenty of photosfor illustration. She includes practice patterns you can photocopy on your computer printer to practice the techniques. Quite a novel idea and approach that I will find very helpful. I have been looking for a book like this to take my quilting to a new level for quite a while and this will do just what I need. Thanksmuch Charlene. Bye now, my sewing machine is calling me to go sew, lol.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quilt as Desired:Your Guide to Straight-Line and Free-Motion Quilting
I had checked this book out of the library, and renewed it several times, and I realized that I wanted, and needed, a copy in my own library. It is a valuable reference and idea-generator!

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't wait to get started with this book!
A very well planned out book that has me less intimidated about finally getting into free motion quilting. The book is full of excellent photos and diagrams to help you to achieve whatever type of quilting you wish to learn. Mine happens to be free-motion.
At the end of the book are pages of practice patterns, that I have made multiple copies of to practice with, as suggested in book.
Along with this Charlene has included 6 actual projects to complete, if you wish to.

After looking this book over several times, I now am ready to get creative with my quilt tops and produce something other than the "stitch in the ditch" and other basic patterns and finally put some zing into my quilts.

What is really great about this book is that it is spiral bound, and lays nice and flat to the page you need to be at-and most importantly- Charlene has started at the baby steps, included many great hints and before you know it, you are doing some really fine intricate quilting!
    Excellent book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Predictable, needs some editing
This book was truly predictable.Probably the most interesting part of the story is this poorly edited line from Kindle version, Locations 4200-4207, which says "His bare tight butt flexed as he stalked toward her, the pale skin contrasting with his tanned legs.Spellbound, Emma could not wrench her gaze away."Hmmm, wouldn't he be stalking AWAY from her?Or possibly there were mirrors not mentioned???? Sigh.

5-0 out of 5 stars A return to Twilight and a return to great writing
The first book in this series was terrible, which was such a shock coming from the very talented Lori Wilde.Thank goodness it was an aberration, because she returns to her form in True Love Quilting Club.Aside from recurring supporting characters and the same town, this book really has nothing to do with Sweethearts Knitting -- except for an update on the main bad guy in that one.

Loved the two main characters, Emma and Sam.Wilde's flourish for dialog and character description shine.Passionate, intelligent and a little bit sad, you will be swept up in their sweet love story of childhood friends who are reunited.Though some of the events were tied up a little too conveniently at the end, you won't mind suspending belief because the book is that good. There are no bad guys and no awful misunderstandings. It's just a fresh and tender slice of life novel. This small town romance is as warm and comforting as the quilts that the ladies create.

3-0 out of 5 stars 2nd book about Twilight, Texas ...
Ok here is the deal Lori Wilde is great writer but I foundI just did not care about Emma aka Trixie Lynn Parks and Sam Cheek romance. Sam Cheek is vet who is a widow with a small child who is very straight laced. Emma and Sam had a young teen love and now years later Emma is back feeling like a washed out actress.

I will continue to read this series but here are few of favorites by this author;Saving Allegheny Green (Signature Select Spotlight) ,There Goes the Bride ,Once Smitten, Twice Shy , Addicted to Love (Wedding Veil Wishes) and All of Me.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Romance for Your Granny
That one year she spent in Twilight, Texas was both the best and worst of Trixie Lynn Park's life. She discovered that the man who was single-handedly raising her wasn't her father - but this hurt was mitigated by the love she felt for young Sam Cheek.

Fast-forward twelve years. Trixie Lynn is now Emma, a struggling actress in the Big Apple desperate for her break. When an unfortunate set of circumstances sends her back to Twilight, Emma is delighted to find nothing has changed.

//The True Love Quilting Club// is an old-fashioned feel-good romance, full of charming characters whose problems are easily fixed. This is Lori Wilde's second book set in Twilight and most of the town's residents pop in for a quick chat. Those who have read //The Sweetheart's Knitting Club// will enjoy reconnecting, yet this novel is perfectly capable of standing on its own two feet. While there can be no doubt in the reader's mind that the two main characters will be a happy couple by the very end, Wilde's tight writing and chemistry she has given her characters will keep the reader turning the pages until that happens.

i was disappointed with this book...i was hoping for more designs for which i could use continuous line machine quilting...i do, however, think this is a good book for hand quilting designs.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE MOST CONCISE, WELL-LAID-OUT QUILTING DESIGN BOOK
I have ever encountered.A large 14" x 11", which allows for small, large and cornered designs of various categories including borders, backgrounds, traditional, special shapes, designs from different countries, holiday designs, and much more! The designs are printed ON ONE SIDE ONLY which is extremely helpful when one wishes to use a page on a lightbox, as only one design shows through. The spiraled binding is a superb plus since it enables the pages to be laid out separately for scan or lightbox use.So easy to use, scores of designs to choose from, ECONOMICALLY PRICED (so much more for the money than any other book I have researched).....Ms. Emery has done all of the work to make it easy for us.Thank you, Linda Goodmon Emery, for providing a fine product for quilters.

It also has many different sizes as well as the instructions on how to vary the size should you need to.This is not a book of the same old quilting patterns.!!!She breaks down her patterns into chapters based on themes, and she covers it all from mini quilts, to seasonal, or babies, or masculine, or ethnic themes (just to name a few)Additionally the book is spiral bound, larger than normal size AND the patterns are all only on one side of the page. You can't lose with this book!! ... This is a great quick reference book from one of the pioneers in machine quilting Harriet Hargrave and also Alex Anderson. This is a great supplement to anyone who is serious about improving their quilting skills and in less than 60 pages, offers a wealth of valuable information all the way from best fabrics for hand quilting to solving common problems with machine quilting.
It's just the perfect size to throw in your tote when attending guilds or classes, for checking for common issues that do come up. Both authors provide quick to the point tips and there are plenty of diagrams and great photos to clarify the particular topics.
Harriet goes into great detail discussing the different types of batting and what you can expect from them in your projects, along with your workspace setup, thread, needle and fabric selections, just to name a few important topics. There's way more and believe me, everything in this book is well worth revisiting even if you are an experienced quilter. So this book is great for any level of experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lap Quilting at it's best!
Georgia's clear instruction and pictures made the quilt-making so easy. It's much easier to work with a small block, quilt it, and then join the blocks together. All the bulk of the quilt is to the left of the sewing machine, so there is no fighting with all that fabric under the machine arm.She also has great instructions for almost any favorite block that can be incorporated with this technique.

5-0 out of 5 stars As always, fun and inspiring
I love Georgia's books and have been using them for years.I am not interested in creating a few intricate artsy masterpieces, but, rather many beautiful, fun, useful quilts.Georgia's books are filled with ideas to make that happen.I used to hit the library looking for Georgia's books when inspiration was needed. Finally, I realized these were books I well worth owning.Whether you lap quilt a block at a time (and each book in the series gives great instructions for this) or quilt after piecing the entire top, these books will provide more ideas and direction than you can imagine.

5-0 out of 5 stars lap quilting
This is a book that can be saved and enjoyed over and over.

4-0 out of 5 stars Georgia Bonsteel makes it easy.
I found this book to be well written and informative. The quilt patterns range from simple to complex for beginners and the more experienced quilter. For those of you who are beginners, invest in a rotary cutter system for this will make redundant cutting of pieces much faster andeasier.I did find that I needed to purchase some extra yardage of fabricsdue to my choice in color and arrangements, keep this in mind if you shouldchose to vary from the colors used in the book.I would have liked to seepointers on how to handle complex intersections in some of the starpatterns that would have made them lay nicer.I had to learn by trial anderror.(Practice with scraps on these until you feel you have it down.) All in all I found this volume to be well laid out with beautifulphotography and helpful. The abundance of available pattern pieces wasgenerous and should keep the reader busy attempting to recreate thewonderful quilts depicted in the book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How-to for color design success
I originally borrowed this book from the library but was so engaged with the exercises and worksheets that I had to order a copy of my own. This book is an excellent tutorial addressing color and fabric choices to help you make your quilt into what you were actually hoping for, whether it's calm, eye-popping, or traditional. The authors go through the color wheel, complementarity, hue, dominance, all in an easy interactive style using photographs of quilts as examples, as well as exercises and workbook pages. They also address variety in prints, floral, geometric, novelty, pattern size/scale, types of prints, etc.You can cut samples from your own fabric collection to cut and paste into a color wheel, complementary color pairs, and into index pages that are organized by color for a personalized "table of contents" of your own fabric collection to use when planning projects.I have found it to be such a great tool for choosing fabrics with success, which can be a scary"unknown" to those of us that aren't natural artists.Even if you feel you don't have an eye for color, you can do this.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Quilting Enthusiasts
This book was a wonderful surprise.I thought I was getting just a book on color, but this contains everything you need to know about piecing, applique, setting blocks, borders, binding, quilting, and more. And it has an entire section on color selection. It is easy to follow and very well diagrammed.I use this book 3-4 times a week.
