Extractions: LinkExchange Member Unknown Romance Novelists This is part of the A Celebration of Women Writers , but I have few clues about these women. They are the authors of novels I have from 1850s-1940s, or were taken from lists in old novels or catalogs. The Romance and Mystery writers of today are their literary grand-daughters. One of them is the great-grandmother of a friend - after her husband died, his family refused to help her, so she supported and educated her six children by writing. If you have any information about authors, please let me know : titles, birth or death dates, biographical information. If you have books by authors I haven't listed, I would welcome that too. Eventually the novels will be analysed for what they reflect about the women who wrote and read them, but for now I'm just collecting them. Also see:

Extractions: 7. To give direction to the talk (and get shyer members talking), some groups have created their own critique sheet that members fill one out when they have finished the book chosen for discussion. (Questions may include: Did you like the hero? Why or why not? Did you like the heroine? Why or why not? Were there other characters you liked? Best part of the plot? Worst part of the plot? Too much or not enough sex? Too much or not enough dialogue? How pertinent were the social issues?) Copying a bunch of these sheets and sending them home with readers involves everyone more, and makes it easier to remember a specific book when it comes time to talk about it. 8. You may want to compose a letter or email to the author and share your group's insights and opinions with the author. If you would like to invite an author to talk to your group, contact your local Romance Writers of America Chapter and they will tell you how to contact the author and set up a meeting. Plan for this as much in advance as possible to allow for author's scheduling. Find your local RWA chapter by calling the national headquarters in Houston, Texas at 713-440-6885. 9. Remember that a talk about a favorite book may lead to a group conversation about anything - genealogy, raising kids, health concerns...who knows! Don't try to stop those talks - books may have brought you in, but these talks are inevitable when people get together. Side conversations mean that people are getting to know each other, and this improves the tightness of the group. You may want to mention at the beginning of each meeting that after 15 minutes on non-book subjects, the group agrees to get back to the original subject.
