Interesting and eclectic mix of Russian paintings
As a painter and a Russophile who speaks Russian and has traveled to Russia four times (soon to be five), I have only recently become acquainted with modern Russian painting. This book illustrates the collection of a wealthy entrepreneur. The quality of the paintings vary widely...some wouldnot be regarded as very sophisticated and maybe more like student works inthe USA...but others are truly wonderful works by artists of great abilityand training. The biographical information on the artists is sometimesextensive and sometimes non-existent, but very interesting overall. It is ashame that more well-illustrated books of Russian painting are notavailable; this one is a good contribution. By the way, the price isreasonable for such a large book with many color plates.

This book provides insight into Soviet life and art.
I found the book provided insight into the training and the importance art plays in the Russian life. I was aware of music and dance but did not understand the painting.I was surprised to see the similarities betweentraining and styles of the 19th century French and early 20th centuryAmerican painters. because of this I felt Tradition Rediscovered was anappropriate title. ...
