Extractions: Vital for today's highly competitive market, all our design processes address co-development of hardware and software - improving efficiency, reducing design cycle times and times-to-market, and increasing the chances of 'right-first-time' success. Our platforms embrace parallel software / hardware development through physical rapid silicon prototyping tools; and our latest developments in 'virtual' prototyping' are focused on creating tools to allow early definition of complete systems at a high abstraction level, for early verification of correct, joint hardware and software functionality. Our comprehensive system support coverage includes a wide range of dedicated software development tools (SDTs) for every scale of custom-IC project. For example, we support ARM-based system integration - employing one of the world's most embedded ARM ASIC designs. We also spearhead advanced, system-level joint hardware and software IP integration for

Software, by its very nature, is softit's easy to change, damage, or destroy. Chips, on the other hand, are made from hard silicona tougher nut to crack. While it's possible to put probes on chips to figure out some of their secrets, it's not as simple a procedure as copying or replacing software. Moreover, in many cases, it's nearly impossible to tell if software has been copied or changed; mucking around with electronic hardware, on the other hand, often leaves physical evidence. Hoping to capitalize on this, Intel plans to include security features in its next generation of microprocessors. The company hopes these chips will ensure that computers are secure the moment they are turned on, thwarting a common hacker's trick. "One way you can bypass software security is by convincing a computer to boot your code, as opposed to the PC's," says Geoff Waters, an applications engineer at Motorola. Intel's chip, says Mr. Waters, will check the boot code, something that wireless chip sets have long done inside cell phones.
