The goal of his expedition was to cross the Antarctic overland, but more than a year later, and still half a continent away from the intended base, the Endurance was trapped in ice and eventually was crushed. For five months Shackleton and his crew survived on drifting ice packs in one of the most savage regions of the world before they were finally able to set sail again in one of the ship's lifeboats. Alfred Lansing's Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage is a white-knuckle account of this astounding odyssey. Oztrack Ice Skating Bookshop

She landed 3tl/3tl (stepped out the second jump), 3lutz/2tl, 3loop, 2a, 3lutz. She fell on the 3f and 2s. It was definitely a great performance from Anne-Sophie after a poor skate at the nationals. The program was well skated even if she lacked energy at the end. Some screen captures will be available tomorrow, along with the free dance screen captures. Yahoo has a photo of Anne-Sophie skating her free skate: 23rd january Sarah Abitbol & Stéphane Bernadis won the silver medal at the Europeans championships. But they made several mistakes in the program and won with the artistical marks. Indeed, Sarah did a double toe loop, single axel and put her hand down on the thrown triple loop. The thrown triple salchow was beautiful and it's nice to see that they have finally decided to stop doing "only" a thrown double axel where their rivals did a salchow. They have been interviewed by french tv after their program and they said that this medal was the "courage medal". Screen captures of their short and free programs have been uploaded

To have simply viewed the magic created by pair teams lead me to create this web site to celebrate the perfection, beauty and wonder of some of figure skatings best. I am busy working on another 'skating romance', plus I am working on a romance story with a different subject matter (but just as much fun!). Suffice it to say I'm having a wonderful time with both stories and only wish I had time to write full-time. (Oct. 18, 1998) - Members of the U.S. Short Track team secured a spot on the World Cup team this weekend at the American Cup I held in Eagan, Minn. from Oct. 17-18, a qualifying meet for the remaining four of the six World Cups this season. Ron Biondo (Broadview Heights, Ohio) and Apolo Ohno (Seattle, Wash.) both joined the team for the men, and Sarah Williams (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) joined the team for the women. It was once again domination by U.S. teammates Amy Peterson (Maplewood, Minn.) and Erin Porter (Saratoga Springs N.Y.) , who both had a bye because of their top finishes in the last two World Cups. The pair swept the women's events to give them a number one and number two overall finish. Peterson finished first in the 1500-meters, 500-meters and 1000-meters and finished second to Porter in the 3000-meters. Porter finished second in all of her events except for her win in the 3000-meters. Ohno, the young inliner who crossed over from inline skating to speedskating in 1993, finished on top of the men despite a disqualification because of a pass in the 1000-meter race. Ohno finished first in the 1500 and the 500 and second in the 3000. Biondo had his best finishes this season, placing second overall to earn his World Cup spot. Biondo finished second in the 1500, 500, and 1000, and seventh in the 3000 meters.

Babe broke barriers for women. Contrary to Aver Brundage's belief that women had no place in sports, Babe proved that women could sweat, succeed, set new records and still enjoy dancing at night. Freedman presents Babe as a complete and complex person. Terrific photos show her in action. She was a one-woman team! If Babe is the tops in sports, Freedman holds that same honor in the field of photobiography. His books are "must reads" for all ages. 1999, Clarion, Ages 10 up, $18.00. Reviewer: Jan Lieberman Women gymnasts have always possessed precision, power and grace. But it was not until 1972 that a young Soviet athlete, Olga Korbut stepped into the Olympic spotlight and changed the face of the sport forever. Until Korbut, the stars of women's gymnastics were mature, conservative, technically sound veterans in the twenties or early thirties. Today's gymnasts are young risk-takers with a keen competitive spirit and a passion for perfection. This nonfiction book profiles eight of the world's best female gymnastsSimona Amanar, Vanessa Atler, Dominique Dawes, Ling Jie, Svetlana Khorkina, Kristen Maloney, Shannon Miller and Dominique Moceanu. Chapters giving a brief overview of the sport are also included. This is a great reference book for school or library, and or a gift book for the budding gymnast!
