Childhaven Was Established In 1909 By The Reverend Mark Matthews childhaven now operates Therapeutic child care programs throughout King County through incommunities throughout Washington State in south carolina, and Calgary http://www.childhaven.org/content_about.htm
Extractions: Childhaven was established in 1909 by the Reverend Mark Matthews as the Seattle Day Nursery, one of the first 50 child care centers in the country. The original nursery building, built in 1921 in the Central District, today houses Childhaven's Broadway Branch. In 1959, a board of trustees was formed and the first staff hired, ending 50 years of management by a volunteer board. Over subsequent years, the agency solidified its position as a leader in the community, involved in such significant activities as the development phases of both Head Start and the Model Cities Child Care Programs. In 1973, Patrick Gogerty joined the organization as executive director. Under his leadership, Seattle Day Nursery made the transition not only in name - becoming Childhaven in 1985 - but also in its establishment as one of the leading and most forward-thinking child care programs in the country. Recognizing the critical need for services for our community's most vulnerable citizens, Childhaven's Therapeutic Child Care Program began at the Broadway Branch with 10 children in 1977, two years before the Washington State legislature mandated the reporting of child abuse. Childhaven's mission now focuses on serving children ages one month to five years who have suffered abuse and neglect. Childhaven now operates Therapeutic Child Care programs throughout King County through the Broadway Branch, the John Wilson Memorial Branch in Seattle's Eastlake area (established in 1961), the Eli Creekmore Memorial Branch in Burien (1987), and the Patrick L. Gogerty Branch in Auburn (1992). There is capacity for treating 268 children each day. Childhaven's model program has been replicated in communities throughout Washington State in South Carolina, and Calgary, Canada.

MUSC CDM Patient Care Programs in the Medical University of south carolina Children's Hospital of the more complicatedchild patient and medically compromised patients are also provided care. http://www2.musc.edu/dentistry/patient_programs.html
Extractions: The College of Dental Medicine offers a wide range of patient care programs and clinical services ranging from simple cleanings to the most complex of care involving surgery, crowns or implants. Since treatment is provided by primarily by students who are carefully supervised by faculty, care progresses more slowly than in a private dental office. Dental residents and full-time College faculty offer treatment for those cases too complex for our student dentists. Student dentists are carefully supervised by the faculty of the College. Since our students are learning, care takes considerably longer as the faculty monitors the progress of each procedure and patient. To compensate our patients for this additional time, there is a considerable reduction in treatment fees.

Extractions: COLUMBIA, S.C. The new Child Development and Research Center under construction at the University of South Carolina marks a significant step for early childhood development, officials say. "This is a unique and really significant private-public partnership that will make a center of excellence sustainable," said Susie VanHuss of the University of South Carolina Development Foundation. There have been gaps in public and private day care in South Carolina. Private centers might offer care but not enough focus on learning. Two prominent public centers in Columbia, meanwhile, offered developmental learning but also ran up deficits and required subsidies to stay open. When it appeared imminent last year that the state's two accredited, state-run programs - ETV Children's Place and USC's Children's Center - would close, the idea of collaborating on a new center arose.
Extractions: COLUMBIA, S.C. A comprehensive plan is needed to improve child care in the South, where services vary widely from state to state and programs face unique obstacles, a new study says. The Southern Regional Task Force on Child Care has developed a plan aimed at bringing child care services in 16 Southern states on par with national standards. But, as many states face budget shortfalls, implementing new programs may not be a priority, child care administrators say. "The real kicker is the budget," said Kim Townley, executive director of the Office of Early Childhood Development in Kentucky, whose program has not been cut. "It costs money to implement quality programs." The task force plan calls for stricter licensing requirements for facilities and stricter hiring standards for workers, including background checks on potential employees.

Extractions: CENTER FOR CHILD CARE CAREER DEVELOPMENT Rationale for Credentialing The Center for Child Care Career Development has succeeded in establishing a common core of content and formed a vision for the professional development of early care and education professionals in South Carolina. The established credentials create a career development system for early care and education professionals that standardizes professional requirements and training across non-credit continuing education into higher education credit programs. It is essential to South Carolina's career development system that all persons working with young children have the same basic core knowledge and competencies. The credentialing system in South Carolina is a way of improving children's learning by promoting career development among those who educate and care for them. Credentialing is a way to increase caregivers' skills and ensure that everyone working with young children has the same basic knowledge and competencies. Recent research on brain development indicates that the early years (birth-3) of a child's life are critical. It is a period of life when development is very rapid. Children develop a sense of trust, a sense of who they are, and what they can contribute to the world. It is also a time they internalize a set of social and moral values that will guide their behavior into adulthood.
