Extractions: The program emphasis of the Ph.D. and Ed.D in Sports Medicine was developed to provide comprehensive academic preparation and clinical experience over the range of subject matter that may be defined as "Sports Medicine." Since sports medicine is, in fact, an eclectic discipline, it has meant different things to associated medical specialties and applied sciences. The advances that have been made in sports medicine have occurred mostly as a result of the specific interests of special groups, e.g., Orthopedic Surgery, Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, and comercial interests (sports equipment manufacturers). This survey research is interesting in that the United States Surgeon's Generals Report places a figure at 60% of adults below the accepted level for fitness while this self survey reports that 88% of adults and 84% of young people report they are on the road to health exercising for at least 30 minutes four times a week. This research by Michael D. Kerr, DSM of the Department of Exercise and Sport Science of the University of Mary provides a guideline for initiating a sport marketing program into the university structure.
