5-0 out of 5 stars Great guide for young adults
This is an excellent guide for students and other young people in the great state of Texas. It gives some great advice on dealing with the law and how to handle things like traffic stops. It also gives great advice on having successful parties (meaning no cops)! Very useful. Check it out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Author is a genuine authority / Must read for any student age 15+
I have known the author of this book for over 30 years and can attest to the fact that he is a bonafide authority on this subject. As a high school and college classmate, he showed us all how to take it to the edge but stay out of trouble (well, OK, maybe we got into a little bit of trouble). Now, as a well educated and highly respected Texas lawyer, he knows the ins and outs of the Texas criminal justice system and how it could affect a young person if they take things too far.

In this book, he shares valuable information on how to have fun while partying safely, how to avoid or handle difficult situations with authorities, and exactly what to do should you ignore the aforementioned and get into trouble with any of the fine, hard working and distinguished law enforcement officers in the great State of Texas. In today's troubled world, every student age 15 or above needs to read this book, and every responsible parent should make sure that they don't ship their kids off to college in Texas without it.Unless, of course, you are looking forward to that 3 a.m. phone call. ... Product Description
What happens to your estate after you are gone is very much within your control. Estate planning is not only for the wealthy; it is for everyone. It is simply the process of deciding where your assets are to be distributed after your death. For those people who wish to preserve their assets for designated purposes such as family or special charities it becomes necessary to make special advance preparations. To ensure your assets are protected and final wishes are carried out, there are some common actions that should be taken now. Proper estate planning allows you to plan for yourself and your loved ones without giving up control of your affairs. Your estate plan should also allow for the possibility of your own disability. It should detail what you own and whom you want to leave it to at a time of your choosing and the way you want. Your estate plan should include fully disclosed, controlled costs for you and your loved ones. The last thing you want to worry about is having your estate drained of value through taxes and legal costs. The right plan can protect the value of your estate and spare your loved ones unnecessary hassles and legal conflicts. The Complete Guide to Planning Your Estate in Texas will help you glide through this complicated process. This new book has been adapted to offer Ohio residents state-specific advice for estate planning. Author Linda C. Ashar, Attorney at Law, has crafted an estate planning primer, allowing Texas residents to become more informed and more involved during the process. Many books on estate planning indicate you do not need the services of an attorney, but this book highly recommends using an attorney versed in this area: You should not go through the process alone. This book is intended explain the complicated issues, terminology, and planning strategies of estate planning so when you do meet with a qualified attorney, you will be well prepared. You will understand the legal terms and be ready to discuss issues and strategies with familiarity, saving you time and legal fees and ensuring peace of mind. Texas -specific information is offered throughout this book, including: Texas s probate code; Texas rules, regulations, and laws specific to estate planning; elements of a valid Texas will; planning your living will in Texas; explanations of Texas laws regarding durable health care power of attorneys, do not resuscitate (DNR) orders, and directives to withhold CPR. The book s easy-to-understand context clarifies this complicated and sensitive subject and gives readers the power to take control of their future. This book also offers an overview of abatement rules, settlement costs, guardianship and minor children, executors and trustees, life insurance, potential long-term care needs, marital deductions, types of trusts, gift splitting, survivorship deeds, 529 plans, reducing or eliminating estate taxes, avoiding tax on life insurance, using insurance to pay estate taxes, gift tax issues, generation skipping transfer tax, and tax-deferred accounts. Estate planning should be a positive experience. It involves reviewing your situation and planning for your future. Although few people want to think about the possibility of disability or disease, advance planning is also a way to show your love and to reduce potential distress later. Other books offer a non-state-specific overview of estate planning, causing many readers to be misinformed about rules and regulations particular to their state; but, this new book provides information Texas residents need to know. Do not get outdated or wrong information that does not pertain to you specifically. Use this new book to craft an estate plan that is not only legally sound but also fully carries out your last wishes and protects your loved ones. ... Read more

Product Description
Prison City looks beneath the placid surface of Huntsville, Texas, execution capital of the world, and sheds light on controversial issues usually hidden behind penitentiary walls. The authors draw on a multitude of voices from the community surrounding the prison—from inmates and guards to neighboring residents and local politicians—to reflect on questions of crime and punishment, vengeance, and forgiveness. We see how the sophisticated communication techniques employed by inmates, information officers, and community leaders shape opinions in the small towns where prisons are a principal industry. The poignant, evocative stories that run throughout the book highlight the incarcerated population’s increasing influence in the political, cultural, and economic landscape in the United States. Most of all, Prison City offers opportunities to understand why the Texas justice system has become a global metaphor for incarceration and capital punishment. ... Read more

Howard Hughes died with hypodermic needles broken off in his arms.

When Mary Kay Ash was in elementary school, she cared for her tubercular father while her mother worked fourteen hours a day in a café.

H. Ross Perot staged the rescue of his EDS executives from a jail in Iran when President Carter couldn’t get his diplomats out of their own embassy.

Michael Dell started his fortune while still in high school.

What do they all have in common? They’re all Texans and worth billions! Texas has long been synonymous with legendary wealth acquired by inheritance, by luck, by intelligence, and sometimes by sheer hard-nosed determination. Author Mona D. Sizer offers a glimpse into some extraordinary lives and reveals not only how they made it, but also what they did with it.

And every chapter begins with a party. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don'tWaste your money.
This is not much of a book. The author does general biographies of a lot of famous people and does not give any more information than a fair to good encylopedia would offer.

Best chapters are on people like Hoby, who were not well known outside of Texas. Worst chapters are on people like Howard Hughes, Michael Dell and Ross Perot, where lots of biographical material is already available and much better than what she has.Her Ross Perot chapter was almost all taken from the books,"On Wings of Eagles". An important moment in Perot's life but only a small part of it.

Catchy title that got me to buy it.Wish I had not. I would sell used on Amazon.com but I don't suspect there is much of a way to recoop what I paid for it.
