Some of these programs focus on educating students in specific fields of research and the methodologies appropriate to those fields. Some research-specific programs are not accredited, profesional programs that would prepare students for licensure in the profession of architecture. However, most of these schools do offer NAAB -accredited programs that do prepare students for licensure.

Extractions: PLAN : Urban Planning www.bsu.edu/cap/planning The urban planning program prepares students for professional careers as urban planners in the public and private sectors. Graduates work for city, county, and regional planning agencies, planning consultants, nonprofit organizations, and private firms dealing with urban growth and revitalization in large and small communities. Planning at Ball State combines physical and policy approaches. Students are taught to improve the design quality of constructed environments while protecting and managing the resources of our natural environments. Students learn the process of community and economic development as applied to small towns and rural areas as well as urban neighborhoods. Whether as private developers or public officials, graduates are expected to have a commitment to improving community life for citizens of all incomes and a broad competence to make both new and old communities better places to live.

Architects combine their design skills with technical knowledge to achieve beauty, safety, economic and environmental benefits, and comfort. The Department of Architecture offers a five-year undergraduate bachelor of architecture degree, accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. Approval to pursue the departmental major in architecture involves a selection process in addition to admission to the university. For more information, write or call the Office of Admissions, (765) 285-8300. A student receiving two consecutive grades below C in any two sequential architecture courses must repeat both courses. The policy remains in effect for students repeating these courses.
Syllabus: ARCH 533a, The Urban LandscapeAn Ecosystem Approach usc.edu Telephone (310) 5767735 res Course website ecosystem approach to the cityanurban ecology. of our mis-steps in environmental planning derive from http://www-rcf.usc.edu/~vasishth/ARCH_533a-Syllabus.htm
Extractions: Course Context To paraphrase Raymond Williams, the history of our ideas of "the city" contains within it a quite extraordinary account of the history of divisions we have made between humans and Nature. This is the history we are concerned with, in our effort to rethink the place of humans and of human affairs in Nature. Conventional modes of bounding Nature, and our customary categorizations of natural and human aspects of the world have been challenged, both by practical experience and by advances in scienceparticularly those in evolutionary ecosystem ecology. Nested scale-hierarchic process-function descriptions of the occurring world offer potentially new sets of conceptual and organizational tools for putting the city back into nature. As such, this course explores the development of an ecosystem approach to the cityan urban ecology. One basic intention of this course is to explore the constructedness of our conceptions of nature and environment. This is not at all to suggest that environmental issuesboth detrimental and benignare not real. As we shall find, they are very real indeed. But not always in ways we would expect. Many of our mis-steps in environmental planning derive from these sorts of misconceptions. In this sense, description is a world-maker and asking the right question counts more than the rightness of any answer.
