One of them, of course, is the cascades volcanoes along the W part of the state. The other is the Columbia River basalts, which cover most of the south and southeast part of the state. These are an example of "flood basalts" and they are between 25 and 15 million years old. The peninsula features 23 miles of interconnecting fresh water lakes and canals which are spring-fed. They spill into the marina at the southern end of the peninsula. All the waterways are navigable by boat and Duck Lake, the primary waterway, offers a variety of boating activities as well as excellent fishing.
