While Maria' wide arm span will serve as the last line of defense, Missy will give her a lot of help by being relentless on the opposition. Meanwhile, 'Cat' will do her own bit of damage by stealing the ball away on one end of the pool and driving relentlessly at the defense on the other. Junior Margaret Minnick will be a double threat this winter, playing in the field and in goal. Classmate Lisa Bartels will bring punishing speed, transitioning to the polo team after the swim season. Lucy Linquist is excited about returning to action after studying abroad last year and Carolyn Dillenbeck will be lighting it up on the counter and in the front. The future looks bright for the Camels with many of the most talented players are part of the class of 2005. Last year's leading scorer, Daria Fenton, will continue to be a force at the two-meter position and Kristina Lewis will be making plays for her teammates on the counter and in the front court. Mary Crowley has been slowed by injury and illness this year but looks to come on strong late in the season. There's little doubt that Lauren Tully will be much improved in this her second year of water polo.

Extractions: Water polo originated in England during the 1870s, and as legend has it, the sport was developed by spirited young men who wanted to play rugby and cool off at the same time. It soon became popular in the United States and is now a major sport in a number of European countries. Its first appearance in the Olympics was at the 1900 Games where it was the first team sport admitted to the Olympics. Games are divided into four periods of seven minutes each, with a two-minute interval between periods. One point is scored when the ball is thrown or shoved completely past the face of the goal. In case of a tie, two three-minute overtime periods are held; if necessary, two more are played until a winner is decided. Players wear caps of contrasting colors for easier identification; the official rules stipulate white for one team, blue for the other, and red caps for the goalies.
