Childrens - Buy Hoot - Book Gift Ideas of adult fiction writers downshifting their word processors to Kid lit in the thiscan be excused for this being Carl Hiaasen's first childrens novel, and http://books.giftvault.com/index.php/sop.sf/asin.0375821813/mode.books/bid./op.d
Extractions: Being a fan of Mr. Hiaasen's wonderfully twisted, weird fiction for adults, I was intrigued by the idea of him writing for a younger audience. Would there be a crazed, hulking idiot with a dead pit bull hanging off his arm? A roadkill-eating former governor? How would he present his somewhere-between-amused-and-disgusted attitude toward humanity in a manner palatable to kids? Roy's parents are thoughtful and very caring. Roy shields his tenderhearted Mom from the fact that Mullet Fingers lives in the woods and at the dump because his own mother doesn't want him. That's probably the most brutal aspect of the novel, unless perhaps it's the dishonesty of the Mother Paula's corporation in attempting to deny the existence of the endangered owls. Mr. and Mrs. Eberhardt worry about Roy and advise him, but ultimately, Roy figures out a successful plan on his own. The book carries us along with a pleasing suspense and steady pace. The author provides neat encapsulations of each character's motivations that are often missing from adult fiction. (Presumably we can work it out for ourselves.) While it might be missing the extreme characters and profanity of his adult novels, HOOT still reflects Mr. Hiaasen's usual indignation over the rape of his native Florida. Roy is an appealing character, one who may very well inspire young readers to question authority when necessary and act to protect the environment. How subversive is that? Kids of all ages should love it.

Yes, it was funny. No, I won't be going back. I checked out Jane Eyre and Dante's Inferno. Whoever said "brevity is the soul of wit" had never met the folks who put this together. I am not being disrespectful to you, Jenn. I'm just not happy with the idea that someone could butcher some very much loved literature to this extent. Additionally, the reference to book reports makes me think that there are youth out there who might take this idea seriously. Also, before allowing children to surf the Net on their own, children need to be instructed about possible hazards of the Internet. For example, some of these sites included products for sale, opportunities for chatting with other young people, and forms to fill out and submit. Families need to set up their own policies in these matters, but it might be best to check out some of the guides on safely surfing the Internet to set up family guidelines. This warning is not intended to frighten anyone, simply to make the Internet experience more enjoyable. Happy surfing! Decoding Liesel. Liesel is a charming and beautiful child with a complex version of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Here I write my thoughts and theories of the challenges we face together, as we walk hand in hand through the spectrum of autism. Sometimes we pause to just admire what is all around us, other times we are faced with dangers when we reach the cross road...not knowing which route to take. But together we take one step at a time. I knew Liesel was Both of those tests were way above normal...her hearing is so acute she has been diagnosed with , even as a tiny baby she was simply At 13 months old From a very early age we realised that Liesel was somewhere on the autism disorder spectrum as she developed it became abundantly clear that she was not ready for the world as we know it .There was only one way to decode her inner thoughts and feelings and that was to step into her world, but how?

My Composition recital will be held this coming sunday, at 2pm, PNC Bank Recital Hall, Duquesne U.... so soon and yet so darn.. man it's too soon. I guess you can say that I'm half and half about the concert seeing how I've lost so much sleep over the past couple weeks, trying to finish up parts, scores, and organizing the stage/sound with Jason, as well as dealing with rehersals. I now know why so many composers go insane, after writing string music. It is impossible to find a violist in this city, or at least one who has enough time to work with you on music. It was bad enough that by scrapping the viola, my string quintet has been reduced to 2 violins a cello and bass (we're calling the group The Frugal Quintet). Now, in the last week of available practice time, the violinists are constantly a trial to work with. This sunday, being hell due to a recent nightmare and the DaylightSavings Time phenomena, the rehersal scheduled for 2pm didnt happen till 2:45, at which point both violinists walked out, and I had to play their parts on piano while Marlo(bass) and Anne(cello) did their best to rehearse... due to the stress, the actal musical feeling, and this month of confused and strained emotions, I have finally entitled the peice

Extractions: "The Boy Next Door" was absolutely one of the funniest, cutest books I've read in quite some time! I really enjoyed the format of having the book entirely written through emails, and unlike some other reviewers, I found I got to know the characters quite well by how they wrote and responded to their emails. The interplay between Mel and John, between Mel and her co-workers, and the various family members, all were priceless! They were all larger than life, without being over-the-top. Nadine was the perfect best friend, and I loved that she was a size 16! All the pieces and subplots fit well together, and even when I could see how certain things would end up, I still enjoyed watching the pieces come together. This was a light, fun read, and very, very enjoyable. I caan't wait to see what else Meggin Cabot comes up with next!
