This is a great referance book for weather data presented in a fomate that lends itself to engineering anaylsis of HVAC systems and modification.

I find this book to be very useful. I use it frequently to check assumptions for system design, to get ballpark estimates of savings potential for energy recovery systems, calculate quick operating cost, and to eliminate systems that do not warrant more detailed study. The author, Michael Kjelgaard is accessible via email and knowledgeable. This book is a good tool for the engineering industry. I recommned this book, it has saved me time in calculations that has paid for the book by multiples.

The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The practice of Joint Logistics Over the Shore (JLOTS), whereby strategic sealift assets are off-loaded without the benefit of fixed port facilities has emerged as one viable technique which could alleviate certain situational sustainment problems. The ability to successfully conduct JLOTS operations, however, is presently limited by several factors, the most significant of which is the dependency of JLOTS operations upon favorable wind, weather, and sea state conditions. Presently, the few analytical JLOTS throughput models in existence have very limited incorporation of environmental parameters. With this in mind, this thesis attempts to both validate and improve the most widely acclaimed JLOTS throughput model, the Joint Over the shore Transportation Estimator (JOTE) developed by the Logistics Management Institute (LMI). The validation centers upon identifying the demands placed upon the user when employing JOTE as well as assessing the validity of its computational methodology. This paper presents a methodology to analyse the thermal loads of non-residential buildings based on simplified weather data, which are available for 206 Brazilian locations. These data include monthly average of maximum and minimum temperatures, atmospheric pressure, cloud cover and relative humidity. For each month, two typical days are used to estimate the cooling and heating loads. The Transfer Function Method was used to run load calculations and the validation was evaluated according to ASHRAE Standard 140. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The goal of this research was to examine the possibility of establishing guidance for lightning avoidance and lightning warning criteria based upon lightning radar reflectivity signatures. Determining how far naturally occurring lightning normally travels from thunderstorms can provide insight to decision makers concerning in-flight and ground safety measures. 3D lightning data are merged with archived weather radar data. To analyze the radar characteristics of the lightning data, radar data are interpolated to a 3D grid of reflectivity. Lightning flashes were analyzed to resolve the reflectivity of the flash origin and to determine the distance of the flash origin from the nearest radar reflectivity core--defined as a radar reflectivity factor (dBZ) of greater than 40-dBZ. 95% of the flash origins were located within 3 km of the nearest 40-dBZ composite reflectivity echo, while 95% of the flash origins were within 6 km of the nearest 40-dBZ base reflectivity echo. 99% of the flashes traveled less than 30 km from the flash origin, and less than 21 km from the nearest 40-dBZ echo.
