MACARTHUR PARK is the story of the homeless and strung out drug addicts that inhabit a once family entertainment recreation park on the outskirts of Downtown Los Angeles on Wilshire Blvd. Dealers and junkies call this place home always just one step ahead of the law. The film focuses on "Cody" played brilliantly by Thomas Jefferson Byrd as the homeless junkie and patriarch of this unstable street family. One day while living life as usual his long distanced son Terry (Brandon Quintin Adams) come looking for him to inform him of his mother's death and forms that need to be signed by Cody to finalize the sale of his old home. With a renowned interest to redeem himself and reestablish his relationship with his son, Cody attempts one last "score" from what he sees as a prize sucker, a television actor (Balthazar Getty) with loads of cash! MACARTHUR PARK is based on the true story of writer Tyrone Atkins whose script fell into the hands of actor/director Billy Wirth while the fledgling filmmaker was shooting documentary footage on the homeless in MacArthur Park. A friend of Atkins handed the script to Wirth from underneath a mattress in an abandoned building whilst he sat in prison. During his incarceration the auteur contacted Atkins and told him of his desire to film his story. From there the pair developed a relationship which then resulted in this labor of love.
Reviews - The People Under The Stairs (USA, 1991, Rated R) Director Wes Craven Starring brandon QuintinAdams Everett McGill Wendy Robie. PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS VHS BUY IT! http://www.diabolical-dominion.com/Reviews/People_Under_The_Stairs/
Extractions: BUY IT! Somehow, Kalifornia came and went without so much as a ripple. It sits on video store shelves right now, gathering dust, people passing it by having no clue what kind of masterwork it is. It's kind of insane because it stars two of the most popular stars in Hollywood right now. Brad Pitt and David Duchovny. Release this movie today, just as it is, and it'll make a billion bucks but not just because of it's stars. It's an incredibly smart movie, raising serious questions. It's got style and class not to mention some of the best performances the stars have ever done particularly Pitt, who, for all his pretty boy looks, always manages to impress me. I hold Kalifornia up there with what he's done in Seven, 12 Monkeys and Fight Club. Fool (Brandon Quintin) is a young boy living in the ghetto. He has big ambitions, like to be a doctor, but considering his sister has a bunch of babies and his mom is sick with cancer not to mention that the landlords are trying to evict them out their home, the outlook doesn't seem to good. The story almost plays out like some kind of bizarre fairy tale. From the beginning we're told that it's time for Fool to grow up, to earn a real name by doing a heroic deed, to walk through fire and emerge as a man. Well it turns out his sisters new boyfriend Leroy (Ving Rames or Marcellous Wallace from Pulp Fiction) has a plan to get money to not only pay their rent, but to get their mother to the doctor for her operation. Of course the plan involves robbing their rich, slumlords of valuable gold colds that they apparently have hidden in their house. Fool is a bit reluctant, there are stories about the landlords being crazy people, but nobody believes those stories anyway right?

After injuring his knee in his pro hockey comeback, Mighty Ducks coach Gordon Bombay gets an offer from sportswear executive Tibbles. The execs company wants Gordon to return to coaching, heading up the USAs Junior Goodwill Games squad. The BIG Picture Review: THE SANDLOT Sponsored by 2/1/03 May God bless the crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia, alongwith their families and the nations who mourn their tragic loss. THE SANDLOT. http://www.thebigpicturedvd.com/cgi-bin/master/viewer.cgi/The_Sandlot
Extractions: As one of five titles recently issued by 20th Century Fox as a "Family Feature", THE SANDLOT was the first on my list to enjoy recently. There are some songs on the radio that you instantly like. Others take awhile to grow on you. THE SANDLOT was a movie I immediately took a shine to when it was released back in 1993, and thanks to the period look that it has, nothing about it has become dated (except perhaps the gigantic mechanical dog that's used through much of the film). The performances are all earnest and sincere and when you get a bunch of kids together working as an ensemble off a well-written script, real magic is possible in the hands of the right director.
