After playing professionally for a year overseas, he left his hoop dreams behind and turned his focus to acting. Yet, it was his prowess on the basketball court that landed his first acting role, starring with Whoopi Goldberg in the sports-themed feature film Eddie In the big-screen drama Pleasantville , he landed a role as a high school basketball player from an open call audition. His experience on the court also came in handy as he was hired as a technical advisor on the film, casting the other players, consulting on the sports dialogue and choreographing the game scenes. In high school and college and as a pro in Europe, he played basketball. Then, he says, "I was an Academic All-American in college, so I had scholarships to law school. I was on 'the path.'" But meanwhile, Blucas had developed a hobby, joining a little theatre company and landing small roles in a couple of movies that were filming in North Carolina, where he attended Wake Forest. It wasn't long before he realized where his true passion lies. "I loved the law because I loved 'A Few Good Men,'" he says. "I was just too ignorant to know that it made me want to be an actor, not a lawyer." The shoot on "Summer Catch" was a welcome relief for Blucas after serving as right-hand man to a short, spunky blonde on "Buffy." "They're polar opposites because ['Summer Catch'] was a boys' club," he says. "It's a sports movie, and all my scenes were either in a bar, a bedroom or a baseball field. On the TV show I get my butt kicked by my girlfriend, and it's a world that's told from her point of view, revolving around something completely different from the movie.... It's not a sexist thing. It's an ego thing. Who wants to lose?"
