Known for his portrayal of nerdy characters in John Hughes movies, he is a beloved member of the Brat Pack. His first television project was " The Gold Bug ", in 1981, a story based on an Edgar Allen Poe story. His next project was the car racing themed movie " Six Pack ", (1982) which costarred Kenny Rogers and Diane Lane. His breakout picture was 1983's "National Lampoon's Vacation" , in which he played Rusty Grizwold, son to Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo . This classic family road trip movie catapulted him into his first Brat Pack movie, " Sixteen Candles ", in 1984. Costarring with Molly Ringwald, Hall played Farmer Ted, the "king of the dipshits." 1985 was a busy year for Hall.
