Meet Kausalya Sreenivasan, a dancer and teacher of this elegant and graceful style of Indian classical dance who was on a visit to the US. We caught her at the home of another artist in Burlington, MA and Kausalya spoke to us at length on her dance, her other unfulfilled dreams , her life and her students. "To get a nice guru is somewhat of a blessing" she says as she talks about her own mentor and guru, the famed 'Chitra Visweswaran' under whose guidance she learnt and perfected the art. "She created a passion and had me totally involved. If it was not for her, I would not be where I am today." And then went on to say that she still keeps in touch with her guru till today. After graduating from Ethiraj College at Chennai, Kausalya realized that this knowledge of dance could be put to good use and started her own school 'Sunartaka' which in Sanskrit means 'Good Dancer' and now runs it with as many as 30 students, all of them girls. She has no male dancers training under her and she attributes it to the fact that none did approach her, although, she admits with a charming smile "that it would be interesting".
