In Lila McCann's case, it was because her last album went gold, she just spent six months touring with mega country superstar George Strait and was nominated for an ACM and there's a reporter on the phone from Country Line Magazine that wants to talk about it all. All this while your current sophomore release "Something In The Air" is playing on the radio one bright sunny morning near the end of the school year. "I'm gonna hold off on it for a while and then maybe go back," said teenage country crooning star Lila McCann about her plans of pursuing a college career. "As soon as I graduate high school I want to work on my music for a few years. I can't spend all the time I would like to on it (now) because of my studies." But that won't be for another year yet. Not scheduled to graduate from high school until the spring of 2000, Lila McCann was first introduced to country music audiences when the single "Down Came A Blackbird" hit the top 10 on the Billboard country singles charts. But her career actually started much further back than that.

The incredible vocal power displayed in her opening single "Down Came A Blackbird" is only the start of "Lila", an album bound to spawn hits. With a wail Lila opens her debut Asylum records release with "I Wanna Fall In Love", definitely a single. Heavy drum beats back McCann's solid vocals that just scream emotion. In typical Lila style the song changes pace and sound quickly when it hits chorus before falling back down to earth. A well rounded track list featuring painful ballads like the Sheena Easton cover "Almost Over You" and "Changing Faces" where McCann shows she can write as well as sing. The albums strongest points are definitely when she kicks up her heels and has fun with rockin' tunes like "Yippy Ky Yay", "Just One Little Kiss" and "Saddle My Dreams". With a release like this, its not a question of will she become a star, but rather a question of when and how fast. This is one of the best debut albums released in the past few years. Everyone watch out, Lila McCann is definitely here to stay.
