Product Description
Parasitic consultants, weaselly stockbrokers, masochistic coworkers, and the ever-present, evil-plotting pointy-haired boss? Welcome to the seventh circle of hell, er, the 22nd collection of Scott Adams' stupendously popular comic strip, Dilbert!Words You Don't Want To Hear During Your Annual Performance Review updates loyal readers on the mind-numbing careers of Dilbert, Wally, Alice, the PHB himself, and an ever-expanding cast of walk-on "guest stars." In this installment, a cash-sucking "consultick" burrows under the boss's skin, a not-so-grim reaper pops antidepressants, and a lab accident turns Dilbert into a sheep - a transformation which goes barely noticed by his beleaguered coworkers. All the while, Adams takes his patented over-the-top but right-on-the-money jabs at the inanity of the corporate world. Dilbert's fans are legion and loyal. They have purchased seven million cartoon collection books and counting. The Dilbert comic strip appears in 2,000 newspapers and in 65 countries in 19 languages. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny
Another great, funny Dilbert book. Its hard to go wrong here. Even years later, the 'office humor' still rings true.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best get better
It was beginning to look like Scott Adams would run out of material for Dilbert, but the corporate world just keeps spinning.Words.. is a new high level in corporate mayhem. From Dogbert the headhunter to the genius garbage man and of course Catbert the evil HR manager they are all here.We learn that "plundered" is now called "enhanced stock holder values."The pointy hair boss gets a body double for safety, and Dilbert invents a robot clone to double his visibility. It's another swipe at office management and the minions who toil our lives away in cubicles.Buy a 2nd copy and mail it to your pointy hair boss.Better yet, buy a 3rd copy and mail that one to your HR Catbert.

5-0 out of 5 stars STILL THE MOST CONSISTENTLT FUNNY STRIP
It's been 15 years and Scott Adams shows now signs of slowing down or the ckind of burnout that caused Bill Watterson to retire from Calvin and Hobbes.Thank God!Because Dilbert remains the most consistently funny comic strip in the papers.A daily dose of wry, sarcastic wit that is daily bread to those of us toiling away in an office environment.

The title of this book says it all...who hasn't wanted to smack the person reviewing us upside the head and ask them what the hell were they thinking when they wrote it.Reviews, marketing, computers, stupid bosses...it's all to be read and mocked in Scott's latest collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another funny Dilbert book
This is another very funny and spot-on book from Adams. Some of the characters like Ratbert and Dogbert don't appear as much, but Wally comes on strong and new characters are introduced like ConsulTick.

What's funny is the resonant note that Dilbert has struck with so much of corporate America. Having been an employee at a major Fortune 500 company for many years myself, I was convinced that Adams was talking about my company, and so did everyone else, although the resemblances at times could be almost eerie.

Adams's cartoons of the more absurd and ridiculous aspects of corporate culture (which at times seems to be about 99% of it) continue to provide much needed comic relief for hapless cubicle dwellers everywhere, and this is another funny book from Adams that shouldn't disappoint his fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars All quiet in Wallyville...
It's more Dilbertine for the addicted like myself and allthough there are a couple of minuses to mention the level of hilarity stays high as always. And how could it not? The inspiration from the corporate world keeps coming through in tsunami waves.

While one of the most cult characters in the Dilbert series (Wally) gains even more of the spotlight other equally legendary characters like Ratbert but above all Dogbert himself keep getting lesser and lesser appearances. That's a pity actually as especially these two have offered unforgettable moments in the past. Another thing connected with these two fading somewhat is that we get fewer moments of Dilbert at home and more in the office. Tha creates somewhat of an imbalance which was not present in the initial installments of the series.

All in all though, this gets adequately compensated by Adam's invincible humor and the introduction of new characters who might have less of a lifespan in comparison to Ratbert and Dogbert but who provide for some freshness nevertheless.

Other than that it's Wally galore to the max. Wally has been the secret ace of this comic all along. This is cynicism at its very best and its most hardcore. The lines coming out of Wally's mouth are surreal.
The Dilbert series continues to be a classic. ... Read more

Product Description
Why is Dilbert such a phenomenon? People see their own dreary, monotonous lives brought to comedic life in the ubiquitous strip. In the 23rd collection of Scott Adams¨ tremendously popular series, Don¨t Stand Where the Comet Is Assumed to Strike Oil, suppressed and repressed workers everywhere can follow the latest developments in the so-called careers of Dilbert, power-hungry Dogbert, Catbert, Ratbert, the pointy-haired boss, and other supporting¨but don¨t you dare call them supportive¨characters. Each ¨funny because it¨s true¨ scenario bears an uncanny, hysterical, sometimes uncomfortable similarity to cubicle-filled corporate America. But the United States clearly hasn¨t cornered the market when it comes to drone-filled offices: Dilbert appears in 65 countries in 25 languages and in 2,000 newspapers. 4-0 out of 5 stars Funny as always.
All Dilbert books are funny. This is a Dilbert book. Ergo, Snaffle eats cheese. No, wait, that's the conclusion to a different logical progression, but you get the point. Anyway, this Dilbert book, as all Dilbert books are, is funny. But it isn't particularly outstanding as Dilbert books go; there was nothing that made me laugh out loud, only a few strips that I wanted to read to my wife, and nothing that I wanted to copy & put up on my office wall. But it's definitely worth the read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Stand Where The Comet Is Assumed To Strike Oil: A Dilbert Book
Good Condition & Fast Shipping!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun times
Scott Adams brings an utterly human and sensible perspective to what is so often inhuman and insensible:the world, especially the office world.Adams' satire is sometimes so bizarre and abstract as to actually approach reality.
Adams' only trouble is that he seems to be running out of ideas, cycling some of the same basic jokes in different packages. But he's still a funny read, and one of the best comics out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very hilarious book.
This latest Dilbert is witty, funny, and I give Scott Adams an A+ for putting greater details into his art works.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the strongest Dilbert collection but worth the read.
If you have ever read Dilbert and cracked a smile or saw where you worked in the joke then you need to buy the collected strip editions. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars If You Have Invented a Machine Designed to Melt Rocks

Now assume that all of the thermal energy generated remains in a rock, and the rock has a specific heat of 1000J/kg degrees centigrade. For me problems that start like this are no-brainers, meaning that I am missing a huge segment of my brain that can make sense of most physics problems. The topic of this book is demystifying and debunking physics in movies, but unless you are fairly well advanced in physics you won't get past the first few pages. I did take physics101 but that was way back in the last century. Formulas abound here as we tackle rotational kinetic energy, and high level static discharge.

This looks like an interesting book, but it is not for the mathematically challenged. Sorry. Now there is a book on the same subject that I can recommend that still has formulas, but that I found fun and intelligible for dummies. It's by Tom Rogers and it's called "Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics".

I really dithered over my rating for this book. Physics freaks may give it five stars, but what about people like me who don't know that all inertial frames are equivalent? Sigh. I gave it three stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Engaging Tour of "Hollywood Physics", But...
This is essentially a basic physics text written in a fun way. The book's format is that physical principles are developed using plenty of formulas, as necessary. Then, these principles are applied by analyzing scenes from various movies, usually through worked-out examples.

On the positive side, the book covers just about all aspects of basic physics, i.e., mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics and modern physics (relativity and quantum mechanics). The writing style is simple, friendly, often witty and quite engaging. The book provides the reader with the tools needed to understand how the world really works. The scientific analysis of movie scenes complements the theory very well and gives the reader a very good feel for what is possible, what is unlikely and what is scientifically ridiculous.

On the negative side, the book contains many errors: some are incorrect/misleading statements, e.g., p. 63: "Deuterium is an isotope of hydrogen that consists of two protons fused together" (it actually consists of a proton and a neutron); some are various misprints and sloppiness in the examples; in some cases diagrams are mislabeled; in other cases, undefined terms are used in examples (but occasionally defined later). The many errors can be frustrating and annoying in the long run and could mislead some readers.

But despite these shortcomings, this book is so enjoyable, informative, witty, engaging and difficult to put down that the positives outweigh the negatives; I can't bring myself to give it anything less than four stars. This book will likely appeal the most to serious science buffs, as long as they are willing to tolerate the errors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Try this at home:Movies, Popcorn & Physics
Wow, what a great book! It's like Ebert & Roper meets Einstein & Newton. Adam Weiner provides the perfect blend of Hollywood and no-kidding physics, and the result is a thoroughly entertaining and informative experience.Weiner de-constructs famous action scenes from movies like XXX,Speed,Spiderman, and 2001: a Space Odyssey with great wit and insight.Who would have thought that a book on physics could be a page-turner?!Bravo Mr. Weiner--hopefully this book will be a Blockbuster like so many of the movies you cover in your book.I can't wait for the next James Bond movie to come out--I'm gonna watch it with a bag of popcorn AND a calculator!

5-0 out of 5 stars Every high school math or science teacher should read this book!
If you enjoy brain teasers, crossword puzzles, or otherwise stimulating your mind, you'll really enjoy this book.Weiner has an engaging, humorous style that leads the reader through fascinating examples of how to apply scientific formulas and ideas to debunk some of Hollywood's most spectacular stunts. If you are a teacher, it would be an incredible way to bring your students real world applications for apparently tedious and difficult formulas. The author makes math and physics fun and liberating.A great read!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a GREAT teaching tool!!!
As someone who has seen the classes where the idea for this fantastic book was created...trust me when I say if you like physics, study physics, like Hollywood action films, etc....YOU GOTTA READ THIS BOOK!The author is dedicated to the subject matter and truly interested in making physics fun and accessible for students, teachers, and everyone! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars All of man a coward?
I can't see the link that Larry makes asserting Adam's presence at the point of original sin. It has always been satan's tactic to divide and tempt and decieve. Here in the first chapter of Genesis we see Eve having a conversation with someone she should not be talking with. The writer would have us believe that Adam stood by watching our age old enemy decieve his beloved, not offering any word at all, watched her eat knowing fully the judgement of death, knowing exactly what is taking place. It is written that Adam was not decieved. I'm not buying it Larry, your book fits right in with the devalueing of manhood today. This book is not only false but dangerous. Is this who we as men are? And she gave to her husband who was with her....you inaccurately assert this whole book on this one word, "with" her. Does that mean they were zipped at the hip? Never apart from one another? God told Adam about the tree of good and evil, then Adam told eve about it because she wasn't created yet. I believe Adam may have loved his wife more than God, so he ate. All you readers out there, read your bible and leave this book alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Taking the Word into the Chaos all around us
Typical Crabb:Catches me completely off guard and comes up with a thought from the Word nobody seems to have noticed before. What a great book, with immediate application to a man's life.It is a must read for any man wanting to see the spiritual battle better visualized, and comprehend the way God has made us specially fit to do battle with the chaos around us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reading books and hearing lectures/sermons doesn't change you, Jesus does.Do you trust Him to?
I do realize how paradoxical my title sounds considering I 'read the book', but I believe that is the main premise of this book.`The Silence of Adam' also brings practical examples of the kinds of thoughts men, even godly men, secretly have but have so much fear to even admit that to themselves. While it seems off base at first, even Judas could have genuinely turned to God (thus not taking his life) and God would have accepted Him. But, as Charles Swindoll has stated, Judas failed to connect his grievance with repentance.Where I believe this book comes in masterfully is taking that next step from repentance to confidence in Christ, even though that seems like walking in complete darkness more time than not. I believe Crabb and company (via the power of the Spirit) truly removed the scales from my eyes concerning Isaiah 50:10-11.Thank you!

5-0 out of 5 stars The failure of men throughout the ages....
It is the silence of Adam that created the broken, sinful world that we live in today and the sinful nature that haunts mankind---and men in particular, today.

Adam's original sin, silently standing beside his wife Eve while she talked with the serpent and proceeded to commit the sin of eating the forbidden fruit, created the break between Creator and created that has haunted us; in our world, our families, our society, and in our relationships.Men the world over today stand silently by, not assuming the God created role they have in leadership, service, and love.

Dr. Crabb takes us on a no-fooling, honest look into this malady and discusses how men need to break 'the silence of Adam'.

Excellent book for those male members of the human race who want to be truly MEN.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read on Men's Issues
"The Silence of Adam" focuses on the challenges men face and how they can respond to those challenges. While the book does contain some good Bible references, the title focuses mostly on anecdotes of modern struggles facing men.

Crabb does mention some good points:

1.Transcendant theology (abandoning ourselves and let God work as He so chooses) vs. Recipe theology (using "Bible" formulas to solve our everyday problems where the focus is on us instead of God).
2.While men's rallies and meetings are beneficial, a personal one-to-one relationship with God is more important.
3.Instead of trying to light a match find a way out of our own darkness, we are better off staying in the darkness with God and let Him do His work in and through us.

While a good title for addressing men's issues, there are other good ones out there (John Eldredge, Bob Buford, Gordon MacDonald, Henry Blackaby, etc.).

Product Description
"For the armies of American office workers, Dilbert is a reminder that they are not alone."--Chicago Tribune

"Cruel and incompetent bosses, plus the pervasive stupidity of people Adams calls 'in-duh-viduals,' are favorite targets in the strip, which appears...on the Internet, in best-selling books, and on refrigerator magnets, coffee mugs, desk calendars, software, neckties, and even underwear."--Playboy magazine

Does Dilbert creator Scott Adams have a hidden camera in your office--or is he just completely in tune with the inept managers, wacky office politics, and nonsensical leadership practices that seem to run wild at your company?

Stop looking for the camera. Dilbert has become a hugely successful strip because Adams feels your pain. How? Because this former employee of a major telecommunications company has been there. He's seen the leadership firsthand. And he knows that to successfully navigate the ludicrous world of business, you can't expect common sense to prevail, you need to keep a sense of humor, and above all, you must always look before you leap.

The strip's enormous popularity stems from the fact that its millions of readers easily identify with the crazy plots and wacky characters found within the corporate environment of collections like this one, Don't Step on the Leadership. Sure, most companies don't have a bespectacled engineer with a tie permanently curled up, a cynical talking dog, and a manager with two pointy tufts of hair. But it's the outrageous things Dilbert characters do and say that leave readers knowingly nodding their heads and, of course, laughing uproariously. The antics of Dilbert's cast are based not only on Adams' own corporate experiences, but on the more than 300 e-mails he receives each day about the office dramas of his devoted fans. ... Read more

This product has also still not arrived. Out of the 3 books which I have ordered none have arrived.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you love Dilbert, you can't help but appreciate every collection, including this one!
This edition of Dilbert features the collection of cartoons printed from January to October, 1998.It's the traditional "smaller" collection, at 127 pages.Wally, Ratbert, Dogbert, the Pointy-haired boss, Dilbert's mom, and, of course, Alice... they're all here!

Need some examples?

[Catbert, the HR Director, speaking to Wally]
Catbert - "The company is giving free flu shots, Wally. The shots will be delivered by wealthy stockholders who will hunt you down and shoot you with flu darts."
Wally - "At least I won't get the flu, right?"
Catbert - "You're probably thinking of the flu PREVENTION shots."

[Wally, studded with darts, is complaining to the boss]
Pointy-haired boss - "No one likes being hunted down and shot with flu darts, Wally. But remember: companies are managed for the benefit of stockholders, not employees."
Wally - "I own stock.It's in my 401(K) account."
Pointy-haired boss - "I'm not supposed to tell you, but none of that is real" (p. 60).

and

[Dilbert talking to secretary]
Dilbert - "I need to document your procedures. It's an ISO 9000 requirement.So... the engineers submit their time cards and then you do what?"
Secretary - "I put them in a pile until I'm sure they're all here. Then I move them to the magic cylinder."
Dilbert - "The trash can?"
Secretary - "No.It's a magic cylinder.I put my work in there and by morning it's gone."
Dilbert - "I've been giving you my time cards for five years."
Secretary - "No one has complained yet."
Dilbert thinking, as he walks away - "After today, I am NOT rounding to the nearest fifteen minutes" (p. 106).

Engineers!

Ranging from three teenagers learning to come to grips with teasing to adults encountering discrimination, the collection represents the incredible diversity of a disorder as diverse as life itself. 4-0 out of 5 stars Almost amazing!
I've found most books about Tourette Syndrome, and the reason I've avoided reading any till now, concentrate on children. My boyfriend has Tourette Syndrome and I wanted to know more about the experiences of adults with Tourette's. This book does that... mostly. There are some fascinating stories and amazing descriptions of compulsive behavior and the feeling of holding in tics but there are some juvenile stories which really didn't grab me and a few stories that seem to lack any editing at all, complete with spelling mistakes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Momkey's
I purchased this book several years ago. Since then, I have had the opportunity to observe several other children-one 19 year old with tourette syndrome. This book is full of a varity of people with different forms of Tourette's. The chldren I have met also have different types of "twitches and tic's". This book shows that the media-or televisions shows that protray Tourette's, are totally overblown. Some people do indeed "twitch" or "vocally" give out annoying sounds. Some are very well controlled in public, but let loose at home. The book is an excellent example of different examples of Tourette's and how to become aware of what you are seeing or hearing. Anyone really interested in the subject - read this book! (:

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Following a lively and diverse cast of characters, the book takes you through the post apocalyptic world of Rifts. The main characters belonging to the Coalition Army finds itself drawn deep into enemy territory chasing a fugitive holding government secrets.

The book is a vast improvement from the Sonic Boom, where the editting was a tremendous downfall. However, the intrigue, guesswork, and action will keep you wondering whats happenning next throughout the whole book!

If you like the Rifts theme, then this is the book for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Vast improvement
Deception's Web, the second part of Adam Chilson's Rifts triology vastly improves upon the first novel. For one, the editing has improved by a quatuam leap, and although it has a few problems, it's much better than the first.

The writing improves as well. The first part is almost a straight action story, and while interesting, it didn't do much to grab the reader's attention.

Deception's Web tones down the action and ignites the intrigue. As Lt. Sorenson's party returns to Chi-Town, they are met with court martial and deceit. A traitor is in their mists, and Sorenson's life hangs in the balance. Strange alliances begin to unravel the deception, but there's more to come.

The characters are also given a greater chance to develop, allowing for the strange friendship between Van and Darren to come to life, the tensions between other party members, and of course, Kramer, er, Kro-Mar, for the great comic relief.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better than the 1st book in the trilogy, waiting for the 3rd
At last, a series for the Rifts universe. While many people critiqued the first book for having printing errors in it, the second does not appear to have any of these problems. If anything;the second book in this trilogy leaves me wanting to read more (which is good).......Our heros have been betrayed and now are getting ready to be sent out to the wilderness on a suicide mission again! Oh My!Hopefully the next book will have a bit more combat action in it (both magic and conventional).A good read so far if you like Rifts, but not necessarily a must have Sci-Fi set of material. ... Product Description
Boys will be boys. And men will be boys. That's a fact. But is this continuing boyishness really just a normal "guy thing"?

What would happen if someone like Dave Barry and someone like Oswald Chambers got together and wrote a book about men? It's not as absurd a question as it seems. In Nine Character Traits Separating the Men from the Boys, storyteller Nate Adams combines the humor of everyday guy antics with more serious discussion of how they mature in character - and why they sometimes don't.

The stories Nate tells are likely to make you laugh out loud. But in-between laughs you'll find an insightful look at the tug between the "boy in us" and the "man in us." It's a healthy tug between the boy who says to listen to our heart and the man who wants us to listen to our head, between the boy who wants to make sure we keep our lives simple, trusting, and passionate and the man who wants to make sure we're taking life seriously and responsibly. The boy in us urges us to "lighten up," while the man in us urges us to "grow up." Both are voices we need to hear.

Christian character or its lack is displayed every day in the "arenas" that form our lives, arenas like work and play, decisions, discipline, communications, relationships, priorities, motives, values, and overall life perspective. These nine arenas call for nine key character traits, and they are delivered thoughtfully and sometimes hilariously in t ... Read more

Product Description
If Mama Don't Laugh, It Ain't Funny, the debut book from syndicated humor columnist Lucy Adams, sits on par with the work of the late Erma Bombeck. In, If Mama Don't Laugh, Adams produces what critics are calling her best work yet, voicing the frustrations and successes of average families everywhere. From using cats to hunt down AWOL hermit crabs, to euthanizing pet watermelons, to sharing a meal of prescription strength crow, you'll tag along on the adventures of the Adams family through awkward family rituals, uncomfortable questions, and the perpetual mysteries of children. You'll laugh until stuff comes out of your nose as Adams humorously dissects and revels in the absurdity and chaos of modern family life. And so will your mama. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book if you are looking for some giggles!
Lucy Adams knows how to make you giggle from the second you open her book to the moment you close it.I picked this book up off of my husband's bedside table when I was stuck in bed with a cold and I couldn't put it down.It was so good it made me forget about my stuffy nose, headache, and cough. If you are one of those folks who doesn't enjoy laughing, I would not recommend it for you; however, for those of you with a sense of humor, Lucy knows how to tickle your funny bone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finding Humor in Everyday Life

With Lucy Adam's honest and engaging writing style, you can't help but relate to the tales she tells. She taps into the insecurities of both the kid and the parent in all of us. And her short vignettes are ever so easy to digest.

Lucy's background in psychology shows whether she's referring to Spiderman, 'The Wheels on the Bus,' birth order or self actualization. She has the uncanny ability to be self-righteous and self-deprecating at the same time. Over and over again, I readily joined with her laughing at herself.

Lucy describes universal family rituals - and the frustrations and successes of average families everywhere. She gives examples that we all know and covers topics that resonate. Family dynamics - Southern or otherwise - have never looked so funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars If Erma Bombeck and Jeff Foxworthy came together.....
...you'd get Lucy Adams. My dear hubby, who usually reads nothing but magazines with "PC" or "Computer" in the title, picked this book up off my nightstand to-read stack. He kept me awake giggling, snorting, guffawing - at one point literally falling off the bed.He laughed so hard the bed shook. He had tears streaming down his face.He was laughing so hard that he couldn't read what was so funny to me...he just handed me the book and I tried to read it while the bed vibrated from his poorly stifled spasms of mirth.I enjoyed it even more when I got a turn to read it.Thank you, Lucy, for adding this gem to the treasure that is Southern Humor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Resource
I bought this book specifically for the Cisco networking interview questions. It has a good set of questions to help assess various interviewing candidates.I recommend this book to hiring managers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Network interview questions
This is an excellent text for any IT manager.I was impressed with the coverage for the pre-interview stages and how you can identify those job candidates that are most-likely-to-succeed in the job role.

Better still, I was impressed with the job interview questions. They are designed for a telephone interview, and the IT manager can just ask the questions and compare the responses to the "ideal" answer.

Overall, this book is a real timesaver for anyone hiring a Cisco or Ethernet Network Engineer.

Product Description
"Deadhead Social Science is a collection of papers examining various aspects of the complex subculture surrounding the rock band, the Grateful Dead. Deadheads, as Grateful Dead fans are called, followed the band from venue to venue until the band announced their dissolution in December of 1995. Deadhead Social Science addresses the questions: What is a Deadhead? How does a Deadhead identity evolve? Why would a person choose an identity that would be viewed negatively by a larger society? Why are Deadheads viewed negatively by the larger society? Is the Deadhead community a popular religion? How did a rock band develop a religious following? The book also examines the music, the role of vendors, and the reaction by host" communities to the Grateful Dead and its following. One key theme in Deadhead Social Science is the interconnections among teaching, research, and personal interests written from a variety of social science disciplinary traditions." ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars useless!!
being a deadhead for many years i find this book to be useless and borderline silly. who cares what one lady who became a deadhead in 86' has to say and tries to figure out.
if you want to learn about deadheads then read A LONG STRANGE TRIP or the many others available!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!
Why didn't I think of a way to go on tour and get paid for the ride? Lot better than "sp-ang-in'"

4-0 out of 5 stars The Truth Be Told
Everyone who has attended a number of Grateful Dead shows has become aware that something "magical" is going on. Those who "get it" are changed for a lifetime. This book is a compliation of socialscience research - usually as part of a Masters or Doctorate project - intothat phenomena. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking foran academic approach to this magical and mystical experience. Be aware thattheformat is not in traditional narrative, but more the way scientificpapers are presented - nevertheless, anyone who has been "on thebus" should put this in their library and those who are not on thebus, might finally get some understanding of why the Grateful Deadexperience is truly transforming.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reasons we followed the band...
As a Deadhead, this is one of the things I've been waiting for. This is a wonderful collection of papers concerning one of the most influential "bands" in American culture. I recommend this to any Deadhead, and I recommend it to anyone who has ever wondered why we saw as many showsas we did, why we traveled across the country every season, and why westill continue to listen to their music. This should be read by anyone whonever understood their sister's, brother's, or child's (make that parent'sas well) need to see the shows and be among other Deadheads. This bookcovers so many facets of the Dead and their fanbase, and each paper is ascholarly piece of academia. Rebecca had such forsight to begin when shedid, and I am thankful that she has found so many dedicated Deadheads whohave written University thesis papers on the band. Joseph campbell andJerry Garcia would both be very happy with this work, and I am again verypleased that a book covering this "long, strange trip" has beenso wonderfully put together. A true sociological work, this should beconsidered by any sociology class in every University across the country.Thank you for a real good time. ... Read more
