Product Description

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals: A View of Other Windows reveals an unprecedented, intimate look at Ryan Adams and his band the Cardinals through the evocative photography of lead guitarist, Neal Casal.  An intensely personal collection of 200 photographs, Casal has captured the exhilaration of the stage and studio while sometimes exposing the solitary aspects of the creative process and life on the road.  With an introduction by Ryan Adams and an afterword by legendary musician Phil Lesh, this collection will be revered by fans and is the official documentation of the beloved band.

5-0 out of 5 stars A View of Other Windows.
Neal Casal's photos are extremely intimate and rewarding.A great look at one of the best under-rated bands.Come back to us Cardinals! We miss you.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is AMAZING!!
Neal Casal captured so many truly intimate moments of not only being a member of The Cardinals,
but as an incredible photographer, especially from a journalistic view. His images represent the bands best
line up since bassist, Chris Feinstein, aka. Spacewolf was sought after to bring his magic alive as a Cardinal.
Neal's images are full of emotion and provide true insight into the life of being
on the road and in the studio with such an amazing group of men -
not just musicians. Because this book was published after Feinstein passed
away I consider it a true homage to one of the best Bass players of all time.
Neal, not only are you a Rockstar but one talented photographer whose
presence behind the camera is subtle, beautiful, heart-warming and undeniably
captures the sharp personalities of each band member with a careful, distinguished eye.
Each Cardinal's quotes in the book only re-enforce the intimacy of the photo's,
from both behind closed doors and in the public eye.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent.
Having had the chance to have seen quite a few RATC shows while the band was still in existence, and having followed Neal's photos closely on his website previous to the publication of this book, I was ecstatic to see that these awesome photos finally found a home beyond internet-land. This book is very well put together, the photo printing is phenomenal, and the added commentary from the band nicely accentuates the photos. A great coffee table book. I hope to have Neal sign mine one day, if I ever get the chance to meet him. My only wish is that the band were still together to continue the amazing music that they made.

5-0 out of 5 stars A View of the Cardinals
Pretty sweet little picture book. The dialogue from the band would be worth it by itself. The pictures are amazing though. Makes me wish I was a Cardinal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ryan Adams & The Cardinals - a view you must see.
a truly beautiful collection of photographs that document the journey between band-mates who are also friends. Neal's eye is amazing as is his ability to capture the moment uninterrupted. as a fan who went to some of the cities and gigs in this book, it brought back a lot of good memories. you gotta buy it! ... Product Description
Chess Explained books provide an understanding of an opening and the middlegames to which it leads, enabling you to find the right moves and plans in your own games. It is as if you were sitting at the board with a chess coach answering your questions about the plans for both sides, the ideas behind particular moves, and what specific knowledge you need to have.

Belying its solid classical appearance, the Semi-Slav is one of Black's most aggressive responses when White opens with the queen's pawn. The Meran is its traditional main line, and often leads to chaotic positions of immense strategic and tactical richness. This is territory where the player who is better prepared and has a superior 'feel' for the nuances will typically emerge victorious, even against a stronger opponent. Vera draws upon decades of personal experience to explain the underlying logic of the Meran and related lines, and to pick out the key features of positions that to the untrained eye might appear random and unfathomable. In addition to discussing all major lines after 5 e3, Vera also covers many subtle issues of move-order, which are of great importance when trying to steer the game into the desired channels. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Superb!
Up to now I have deferred from rating chess books. This book is so good I feel it unjust to the author not to rate it.
I find most chess bookks usually get 5 star ratings when I would give them three or sometimes less. I point this out to let you know this book truly stands out. I'm only rated in the 1400's so if your in that grade consider getting this book. The book is in the Chess Explained series and the author hits his target audience head on. You can read just a chapter and feel comfortable playing this variation as black.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good introduction
Vera covers the Semi-Slav (1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 e6) from White's point of view after 5. e3. Especially the Meran variation (5...Nbd7 6. Bd3 d×c4 7. B×c4 b5) is covered in chapters 1 to 4 (without black deviations on the sixth move) but also modern Anti-Meran systems after 5...Nbd7 6. Qc2 Bd6 in chapters 5 and 6 got analysed (incl. the Shirov-Shabalov-Attack). In addition chapter 7 covers 5...a6. A very nice chapter is chapter 8 where Vera discusses several move order problems.
Analysis looks honest to me and although it's not an encyclopaedic work all important ideas are explained sufficiently. I can recommend this book for everyone you want to learn the Meran (like me who want to understand the queen's pawn openings).
Have fun

Product Description
All chess-players love to play a smooth attacking game, flowing from start to finish, and sprinkled with spectacular ideas and sacrifices. However, few can do so regularly, and for most players, their collection of brilliancies missed far outweighs their creative successes.

Innate talent plays an important role, but many of the skills needed for attacking chess can be learnt by study and practice. Here, one of the world's most experienced annotators has selected 33 superb examples, and explained them in a way that strips away the mystery. We see how the decision to attack is made, and which positional factors led to that decision being justified. We observe either a gradual build-up, or a lightning-fast storm, and understand why one approach or the other was necessary. Finally, we witness the final execution of the tactical blows.

To check that we have truly grasped the ideas, Franco presents us with plentiful exercises, where it is we who have to perform the heroics. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best annotator in town
This book is divided in five chapters: 1. The King in the Centre; 2. Opposite-Side Castling; 3. Attacking the Castled King (Same Side Castling); 4. Exploiting Temporary Advandages, and 5. Miscelaneous Themes (The Power of the f5-Knight, Manouvring with Major Pieces, and The Pawn Centre). At the end of each chapter Zenon offers a number of exercises with solutions presented at the end of the book.In total there are 33 deeply annotated games plus a number of supplementary games. Most of the games are of recent vintage.

Zenon Franco is an annotator of the highest calibre, who beautifully combines verbal explanations with the right amount of concrete variations. This is not a book for beginners though.I would recommend it for players rated above 1600.All in all an excelent chess book.

To my surprise Zenon considers the game Zagorskis-Sadler, Elista 1998, which he annotates in the book, as "one of the most beautiful attacking games in chess history".I had seen this game before and must admit it also caused a deep impression on me at the time.Zenon's annotations of this game served to confirm my impression. ... Excerpt: John Bodkin Adams (21 January 1899 4 July 1983) was an Irish-born British general practitioner, convicted fraudster and suspected serial killer. Between the years 1946-1956, more than 160 of his patients died under suspicious circumstances. Of these 132 left him money or items in their will. He was tried and acquitted for the murder of one patient in 1957. Another count of murder was withdrawn by the prosecution in what was later described as "an abuse of process" by the presiding judge Patrick Devlin, causing questions to be asked in Parliament about the prosecution's handling of events. The trial featured in headlines around the world and was described at the time as "one of the greatest murder trials of all time" and "murder trial of the century". It was also described at the time as "unique" because, in the words of the judge, "the act of murder" had "to be proved by expert evidence." The trial had several important legal ramifications. It established the principle of double effect, whereby a doctor giving treatment with the...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1011441 ... Read more

Reubens joined the Los Angeles troupe The Groundlings in the 1970s and started his career as an improvisational comedian and stage actor. In 1982 Reubens put up a show about a character he had been developing during the last few years. The show was called The Pee-wee Herman Show and it ran for five sellout months with HBO producing a successful special with it. Pee-wee became an instant cult figure and for the next decade Reubens would be completely committed to his character, doing all of his public appearances and interviews as Pee-wee. Fylde Players, Phil Doughty, Adam Nowland, Matty Kay, Edward Threlfall, Scott Mcniven, Jerome Watt, William Lavery, Sean Paterson. Excerpt: Philip Michael Doughty (born 6 September 1986 in Kirkham, Lancashire) is an English professional footballer who currently plays for Fylde, on loan from Fleetwood Town. After signing as a trainee on 1 December 2002, only six days later Doughty became the youngest player to represent Blackpool in the FA Cup, when aged 16 years and 93 days he came on as a last-minute substitute against Torquay United in a second-round match whilst he was still at school locally in Kirkham and still too young to train with the Blackpool team, and he had to receive special permission to play from his headmaster at Carr Hill School. On 3 May 2003, Doughty again needed his headmaster's permission to feature for Blackpool, this time as an unused substitute for Blackpool's final league game of the 2002-03 season against Chesterfield, when then Blackpool manager Steve McMahon named five youth team players in the matchday squad. In the summer of 2003 Doughty joined the club's youth team. Doughty signed a two-year professional contract on 17 November 2004, with an option for a further two years at Blackpool after impressing as captain of the club's reserve team and also as an unused substitute as part of the first-team squad. Since then Doughty has played for the club in competitions such as the LDV Trophy, but not in the league. On 14 January 2005, Doughty signed on loan with Leigh RMI, who were then in the Conference National where he was due to stay until 25 April. However, on 11 February, then Blackpool manager, Colin Hendry cancelled the loan deal after Doughty had played in just one game out of a possible four. In Octo... Excerpt: Thomas George "Tommy" Prince, MM (October 25, 1915-November 25, 1977) was one of Canada's most decorated First Nations soldiers, serving in World War II and the Korean War. Born in Manitoba, Canada, he was one of eleven children of Henry and Arabella Prince of the Ojibw'e Nation at the Brokenhead reservation in Scanterbury, Manitoba. He was the grandson of the Indian chief, Peguis, who had led his nation from Sault Ste. Marie to the southern end of Lake Winnipeg in the late 1790s, keeping their French name, the Saulteaux. Growing up, Prince became a superb marksman with exceptional tracking skills learned from countless days spent hunting in the wilderness around his Indian reserve. He attended Elkhorn Residential School, completing grade eight. After leaving school, he was employed at a variety of manual labor positions but primarily as a tree faller. At the outbreak of World War II Prince volunteered to fight with the Canadian Army and although Prince easily met the requirements for recruitment, he was turned down several times before he was finally accepted on June 3, 1940. He was originally a member of the Royal Canadian Engineers, trained as a sapper. He volunteered for duty with a parachute unit designated the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. [This designation was used to disguise the true reason for the recruitment of parachute volunteers in the UK at that time. Britain, the United States, Canada, and Norway had begun the formation of a special force to conduct sabotage in Norway. Men were recruited in Canada and the overseas army for this Force dubbed the 1st Special Service Force. The Canadians involved with this ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=340120 ... Read more
