Excerpt:Adam Charles Hilton Seymour (born 7 December 1967 in Royston , Hertfordshire ) is a former English cricketer who played for a variety of teams in his 12-year career; most of his games were for Essex and Worcestershire . Batting at number eight, Seymour scored 102 not out at the age of 16 for Essex Second XI against their Middlesex counterparts at South Hampstead. Essex II, however, lost the game by one wicket. He made more than 20 further appearances for Essex II and Essex Under-25s, the bulk of these in 1985, but never even reached 50, let alone 100. Seymour was given his first-class debut by Essex in May 1988, when he was chosen for the match against Cambridge University at Fenner's , hitting 33* down the order in a comfortable Essex victory. This was the first first-class game to be umpired by Vanburn Holder . He made no first-team appearances in 1989, but played some very good innings at Second XI level, including 168* and 42* against Lancashire II in September. The best book available on strategic endgames
The endgame is the secret key to chess mastery.Many players spend long hours studying openings, but find that their game falls apart as they move towards the endgame.Endgames teach you the dynamics of piece play and basic strategic principles.They can be divided up into strategic endgames and technical endgames.To learn the latter, Silmans Endgame Course is excellent for those just starting out.For more advanced material on technical endgames, Muller's 4 DVD set from Chessbase is excellent.If you are not confident with technical endgames, then learn them first before moving on to strategic endgames.

The present book is simply the best book available on strategic endgames.This is not an easy topic to write about.However, the authors do a great job in organising the material into themes.The presentation is excellent and production quality first rate.For those looking for a gentle introduction to the topic of strategic (as opposed to technical) endgames, the perhaps other books can be read first (1. Grandmaster secret endings by Soltis, 2. Endgame strategy by Shereshevsky and 3. Secrets of Chess Endgame Strategy - in that order).But polish your skills by studying this book and perhaps also "Excellent at technical chess" by Aaagaard, which is a bit more limited in scope.
