O'Connor CMG (11 January 1843 10 March 1902), full name Charles Yelverton O'Connor, was an Irish engineer who is best-known for his work in Australia, especially the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme. O'Connor was born in Gravelmount, Castletown, County Meath, Ireland, third and youngest son and fourth child of John O'Connor, a farmer and company secretary, and his wife Mary Elizabeth, née O'Keefe. O'Connor was home schooled by his aunt before being educated at the Waterford Endowed School (also known as Bishop Foy's School). In 1859 he was apprenticed to John Chaloner Smith as a railway engineer. At the age of 21 he migrated to New Zealand, and on 6 September 1866 was appointed assistant engineer for Canterbury Province. After holding other positions, O'Connor became inspecting engineer for the mid-South Island. In 1873 he married Scottish born Susan Letitia Ness and together they raised seven children, four girls and three boys whilst in New Zealand. In 1883 he was appointed Under-Secretary of Public Works in New Zealand and in 1890 he was appointed Marine Engineer for the colony. By 1891 O'Connor had much experience in harbour and dock construction when he resigned his position in April of that year to become Engineer-in-Chief of Western Australia. His wife and children relocated with him to Australia. There he was responsible for the construction of Fremantle Harbour and the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme project that supplied water to the Eastern Goldfields. He was the inaugural Engineer in Chief of the Public Works Department. Aerial view of Fremantle Harbo... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=216426 ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Victoria Day (in French: Fête de la Reine), colloquially known as May Two-four, May Long, or May Run is a federal Canadian statutory holiday celebrated on the last Monday before or on 24 May, in honour of both Queen Victoria's birthday and the current reigning Canadian sovereign's official birthday, and is also considered an informal mark of the beginning of the summer season. It has been observed since before Canada was formed, originally falling on the sovereign's actual birthday, and continues to be celebrated in various fashions across the country on the fixed date of the first Monday on or before 24 May. However, since the Quiet Revolution in Quebec, the same day was unofficially known in the province as Fête de Dollard until 2003, when provincial legislation officially named the same date as Victoria Day the National Patriots' Day. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Entertaining!
I love all the recipes especially the the Florentine Sandwhich cookies, Cannoli with Orange Zest, Mediterranean Pizza, andEasy Apple PieThe party ideas were very creative and colorful and elegant and wonderful,I love the pictures which help the presentation!Very well done!!
Really enjoyed the book. Actually Love it!Have purchased several copies to give to friends as gifts.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can you say disappointed?
The writers of this book are uber creative, but this book is no indication of their talent.Have to give this one two thumbs down:(

2-0 out of 5 stars bad cookbook, decent party planning book
ONLY buy this book if you're looking for party planning ideas. the recipes are overly simple: for example, a few pages are dedicated to teaching you how to lay out deli meats for a buffet. many recipes suggest using store-bought cake and muffin mixes...gross! the pictures are pretty, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful yet practical
Now let's be fair. I wouldn't call a book with full page photos every other page minimally pictured. Topping the quantity of the pictures is the quality--crisp, rich, highly inspiring. (If you like the magazine Real Simple, you will like this book.)

Some of the recipes look complicated but are in fact fairly easy to follow. I tried a few and the results came out pretty close to the pictures. Every menu comes in a Plan Ahead version and a Last Minute version. So if you are in a time crunch and still want to impress your friends, this book is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love It
I found this book to be incredibly inspiring. The ideas and the recipes are new and inventive. It's beautifully photographed and well written--a definite keeper! ... Read more

Description:
Understanding the relationship between soil biodiversity and ecosystem functioning is critical to predicting and monitoring the effects of ecosystem changes on important soil processes. However, most of Earth's soils are too biologically diverse to identify each species present and determine their functional role in food webs. The soil ecosystems of Victoria Land (VL) Antarctica are functionally and biotically simple, and serve as in situ models for determining the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem processes. For a few VL taxa (microarthropods, nematodes, algae, mosses and lichens), species diversity has been intensively assessed in highly localized habitats, but little is known of how community assemblages vary across broader spatial scales, or across latitudinal and environmental gradients. The composition of tardigrade, rotifer, protist, fungal and prokaryote communities is emerging. The latter groups are the least studied, but potentially the most diverse. Endemism is highest for microarthropods and nematodes, less so for tardigrades and rotifers, and apparently low for mosses, lichens, protists, fungi and prokaryotes. Much of what is known about VL diversity and distribution occurs in an evolutionary and ecological vacuum; links between taxa and functional role in ecosystems are poorly known and future studies must utilize phylogenetic information to infer patterns of community assembly, speciation, extinction, population processes and biogeography. However, a comprehensive compilation of all the species that participate in soil ecosystem processes, and their distribution across regional and landscape scales is immediately achievable in VL with the resources, tools, and expertise currently available. We suggest that the soil ecosystems of VL should play a major role in exploring the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, and in monitoring the effects of environmental change on soil processes in real time and space. ...
