Excerpt: Thelma Catherine "Pat" Ryan Nixon (March 16, 1912 June 22, 1993) was the wife of Richard Nixon, 37th President of the United States, and was First Lady of the United States from 1969 to 1974. She was commonly known as Patricia or Pat Nixon. Born in Nevada, Pat Ryan grew up in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from high school in 1929, then attended Fullerton Junior College and later the University of Southern California. She paid for her schooling by working multiple jobs, including pharmacy manager, typist, X-ray technician, and retail store clerk. In 1940, she married lawyer Richard Nixon; they had two daughters. Pat campaigned for her husband in his successful congressional campaigns of 1946 and 1948. Richard Nixon was elected Vice President in the Eisenhower administration, whereupon Pat undertook many missions of goodwill with her husband and gained favorable media coverage. She assisted her husband in both his unsuccessful 1960 presidential campaign, and later in his successful presidential campaign of 1968. As First Lady, Pat Nixon promoted a number of charitable causes, including volunteerism. She oversaw the collection of more than 600 pieces of historic art and furnishings for the White House, an acquisition larger than that of any other administration. Pat became the most traveled First Lady in U.S. history up to that time, visiting about 80 nations; she was the first First Lad...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=400686 ... Read more

Excerpt: World War I World War II George Smith Patton, Jr. (also George Smith Patton III) (November 11, 1885 December 21, 1945) was a United States Army officer most famous for his leadership commanding corps and armies as a general in World War II. He was also widely known for his controversial outspokenness. Patton was commissioned in the U.S. Army upon graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1909. In 1916-17 he participated in the unsuccessful Pancho Villa Expedition seeking to capture the Mexican revolutionary. In World War I he was the first officer assigned to the new United States Tank Corps and saw action in France. After the war he was a strong advocate of armored warfare. In World War II he commanded corps and armies in North Africa, Sicily, and the European Theater of Operations. Near the end of the Sicilian campaign he jeopardized his career by slapping a soldier recuperating from battle fatigue at a hospital, whom he regarded as a coward. Relieved of his command by Allied Supreme Commander General Dwight D. Eisenhower over the well-publicized incident, Patton was relegated to acting as a decoy in Operation Quicksilver instead of playing a major part in the Normandy Landings and Operation Overlord. However, he was later given command of the U.S. Third Army and ably led it in breaking out of the hedgerows of Normandy and across France. A surprise German offensive at the Battle of the Bulge resulted in American units being surrounded in Bastogne, but Patton rapidly disengaged his army from fighting in another sector and moved it over 100 miles in 48 hours to reliev...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=42090 ... Product Description
Boys will be girls and girls will be boys. String of Pearls is a collection of provocative, sexy stories about cross-dressing amassed by Australian writer and filmmaker Tony Ayres. Often the tales are about gender confusion, undermining the rigid boundaries by which sexuality is defined. They also touch upon themes of sexual ambiguity, clothing as fetish and ritual, and disguise as a vehicle for unveiling hidden truth. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Missing Some Pearls
Unforunately this book doesn't live up to it's promises. The stories about cross dressing never focus on why the characters cross dress or even describe the world of drag.Drag is becoming more popular, clubs areeverywhere and the potential for a book of stories about these individualsand places is there. This is what I had hoped I would find in String ofPearls.Half of the stories I couldn't even finish and the other half Iwish I hadn't. ... Read more
