This book is really about effective teaching online and building online communities of practice
I first heard about this book in the Harvard Business Review under the topic of peer-to-peer leadership training.It is that and more.It describes a great method of building communities of practice online and how to effectively lead online discussion forums.I am a better online teacher because of the lessons from Ms. Dixon.These ideas are not just for Army leaders but can be applied to any group which is distributed but needs to share knowledge and stay connected.I eagerly await the second edition! ... Very well done!
I have read the book, On The Banks of the Amazon, to my grandchildren, who are more than facinated with the pictures.The story holds the interest of even the smallest child, all the way to the end.And what a nice surprise at the end!

The text and pictures compliment each other well. This book would be an asset to classrooms and libraries, especially since it is bilingual.It can be enjoyed by children of many ages.

On the Banks of the Amazon
Mrs. Allen has done a wonderful job showing the amazing sites of the Amazon along with keeping the reader on their toes as the hunter looks for exotic things.I recommend this book to all children, as well as educators.It would be a wonderful resource in a rainforest unit.

I like it
I really like the way they organize this book. For me, a environmental management study person, this book gives a very clear sketch of Ecology. It also very good to read articles from so many good ecologist from diferent angles. I strongly recommand this book to those who want to know what have been discussed and covered in the subject of Ecology, and how we can link these ideas and knowledge to our life or other studies.

A fine and readable survey of academic ecology
This book presents a survey of the academic subdivisions of the science of ecology. Gives some general information and then a chapter on each of 6 different specializations in the science, viz., landscape, ecosystem, physiological, behavioral, population and community ecology, written by pofessional ecologists. Especially valuable for someone wishing to study ecology in school who wonders what exactly the various subfields deal with and consist of. Also enjoyable for anyone wanting to learn about the aims, problems, approaches and results of ecology as an academic endeavor. Includes sections on how the subfields are linked together.
