impressive and disappointing
"Stand and Deliver" is impressive in the sense that Stuart Goddard was able to step up and give us some of the gritty details about his personal life. We get to explore everything from his childhood up until his current state of being. What I like about this book is Adam's ability to entertain the reader with his stories involving other famous celebrities, but what hinders the book is his lack of insight involving his actual body of work. I was hoping to get the inside scoop on what inspired songs like Apollo 9 or The Human Beings, but instead I was given the impression that Adam Ant didn't really care about his work as much as he did about being famous... In fact, it would seem like his professional life was secondary to his personal life and his personal affairs in this book. If you like Adam Ant, then you'll like the book, but it won't compel you I'm afraid.

Always a fan, now even more so
I have always been fascinated with Adam Ant.Something about him has always drawn me in.In recent years, I have heard some of his mental health issues along with his awful stalker issue.His honesty is both refreshing and a little heartbreaking too.I applaud him for having the bravery to put himself out there for the world to know.Great book about a great man.

Book was received just as promised. It's a gift so I didnt read it first! :) I wish it was more of a coffee table book...but it is more of a novel type book.

Educational and entertaining
Written by Ant in journal form.As he grows up, he rotates through all the different jobs in the ant colony and writes about and illustrates his experiences.From stroking an aphid to get the honeydew to fighting off a ladybug attack to rotating eggs in the nursery to rebuilding the nest after a flood, this book will keep you interested and amazed.My daughter loved this book when we got it for her at age 6.At 9, it still fascinates her.

A Great Way for Kids to Learn About Ants!
My 7-year-old son just loved this book.He got it a couple of days ago and asked us to read it to him several times.Now he reads it to us.He is just so fascinated with it.It has prompted him to draw his ownpictures of ants and other insects that are written about in the book. In 1939, to escape Nazi occupation, 14-year-old Adam Broner and his older brother Sam left their home and family in Lodz, Poland, and made their way to the Soviet Union. Adam enlisted in the Red Army to join the fight against the Nazis, but was sent to work in a Siberian coal mine instead when his nationality was discovered. After a bold and daring escape from Siberia, Broner reached the Soviet Polish Kosciuszko Army, joined the struggle against the Nazis, participated in the liberation of Poland, and rode victorious into Berlin in 1945. He later learned that his parents, siblings (except Sam), and all other close relatives had perished during the war. Broner rebuilt his life, established a family, returned to Moscow for a degree in economics, and then went back to Poland, where he accepted a job in the Polish central planning agency. Eventually fed up with the growing anti-Semitism of the Communist government there, the author emigrated to the United States in 1969. He earned a doctorate from Princeton University and served as an economic adviser to New Jersey governors and the state legislature.In retirement, Broner learned portrait painting and reproduced the likenesses of his parents and siblings from memory, which are presented along with their biographies in this book. This book is a valuable resource for students of Eastern European History.Adam Broner's first person narrative skillfully connects the author's personal story with the larger events surrounding his life.The wide scope and long time period provide a neutral perspective and a greater understanding of the events. Broner's personal stories draw the reader into history and bring it to life in a new way. The book would easily fit into a curriculum covering World War II, Communism, Eastern Block History, Anti-Semitism, and particularly Poland. This remarkable biography can be enjoyed by anyone, but it will be especially appreciated by all scholars of history.

Adam Broner's book is a well-written, very readable one person's story of the most important event of the 20th century, World War II. It is a remarkable, I would even say unique story. At that turbulent time, most people let themselves be pushed where the changing fates of war were throwing them. Not so the young Adam Broner. He repeatedly made his own decisions, sometimes risky but right and courageous. The most important of these was to desert the "working battalions" in Siberia, and to join the army fighting the Nazis.
