Product Description
Take That were the original British boy band. They sold out arenas in less time than it took to play one of their chart-topping singles. Gary Barlow was the band's gifted front man who not only wrote hits such as "Pray" and "A Million Love Songs" but sang them too. Then, the band quit at the very height of their fame. Here, Gary reveals for the first time his ride on the rollercoaster of fame, the truth behind the rumours of the band's feuding and his fall-out with Robbie, and how he sank into depression only to rise again in one of pop's greatest comebacks: the record-breaking Take That reunion tour. Candid, confident and down-to-earth, Gary is definitely back for good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than any documentary
In spite of the numerous typographical errors (which normally drive me up the wall), I really, really enjoyed this book. Of course I'm biased, I wouldn't be spending £10 on his autobiography if I wasn't a Gary Barlow fan, but that aside, I think any Take That fan would find 'My Take' incredibly insightful, even if Gary isn't their favourite. It's very interesting to read about what Take That mania was like for the band and how it was to be on the receiving end of the madness as opposed to being the fan. Gary is very candid about how domineering he was as the "leader" and how possessive he was over his songs that he didn't want to share writing credits with any of the other boys. There are times when you feel bad for the other guys in the band who always felt like second best to the "talented singer-songwriter, Gary" and times when you feel bad for Gary as he learned (the hard way) that hogging the song writing spotlight also meant that all the pressure and responsibility rested on him. He also writes openly about how it was to be a member of one of the most successful boy-bands of the time and of how they had different girls every night and couldn't be bothered to learn their names. Some people have said that they liked Gary less after having read this book but I feel the exact opposite. I like Gary even more now that I did before reading this book. I appreciate his honesty and the fact that he tells it like it is whether it makes him look bad or not. It also makes you understand him better. He goes from being Britain's golden boy of song writing to being the butt of all Robbie's jokes. I highly recommend `My Take' to any Take That fan. The price may be a tad bit steep for a tiny paperback book, but it is chock-full of interesting tid-bits about their songs and videos and even their 2006 comeback - its well worth it! ... Read more

Excerpt: Gary Barlow (born 20 January 1971 in Frodsham, Cheshire) is an English singer-songwriter, pianist, producer and actor. He is a member and lead vocalist of the pop group Take That and was one of the most successful songwriters of the 1990s, penning 16 hit singles during the decade. Barlow has had two No.1 hits and a No.1 album along with five other top 40 UK singles as a solo singer in the last half of the 1990s, and has had 11 No.1 singles and 7 No.1 albums with Take That. He is a five-time recipient of the prestigious Ivor Novello Award and has been voted the greatest British songwriter of all time. In his autobiography, Barlow relates that his love of music began at an early age. "I was one of those kids that's forever dancing in front of the TV looking at my reflection." He said he enjoyed watching Top Of The Pops on television, and when he was ten years old, he watched an episode of the programme in which Depeche Mode were performing their new single "Just Can't Get Enough". Barlow was mesmerised by the sound and decided he wanted a keyboard for Christmas. For the next few years, he spent most of his spare time teaching himself to play his favourite songs. Aged 15, Barlow entered a BBC Pebble Mill at One competition called A Song For Christmas with a song called Let's Pray For Christmas. After getting through to the semi-finals, he was invited to London's West Heath Studios to record his song. This inspired Barlow to perform on the northern club circuit, singing cover versions and his own songs. Aged 18 in 1989, he appointed Wigan show business agent Barry Woolley to be his manager and recorded a single (Love Is In The Air) under the stage name Kurtis Rush. After the single's commercial failure, Barlow came under the influence of pop mana... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=755424 ... Read more

Excerpt: "Back for Good" is a song by the British pop group Take That. It was released in 1995 as a single from Nobody Else and achieved great success in many countries, including Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Norway and UK where it topped the charts. Written by Gary Barlow, who also sang the lead vocal on the track, it was their sixth UK chart-topper, and their only US top ten hit. It was initially unveiled at the 1995 BRIT Awards, and such was the demand for the single that the release date was brought forward and the song made available to the media an unprecedented six weeks before release. It was released on March 27, 1995 and entered the UK singles chart at number one, selling nearly 350,000 copies in its first week. This was one of the fastest selling singles of the year, selling almost as many as the rest of the top 10 that week added together. It remained at number one for four weeks, and eventually sold 965,000 copies. The song won Best British Single at the 1996 Brit Awards. The song would later reach number seven on the American Billboard Hot 100 chart, Take That's only charting US single. The song was a big hit in Brazil, during the years of 1995 and 1996, due to soap-opera "Explode ...http://booksllc.net/?id=2500483 ... Read more
