2-0 out of 5 stars out of date
This book was ok, but very out of date. It was interesting to see how many businesses and locations have changed in the previous 4 years. Did not work as a guide for me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Actually Useful
I actually found the quide quite useful, with a lot of specific information that you can't find in the local visitor center (which I am quite familiar with). It can be a little bit dated (not to mention esoteric) but it is the quintessential guide to Whatcom County.

1-0 out of 5 stars Whatcom Guide falls short
I was unimpressed with the guide. It was given to me as a present so I can't complain too much. I didn't find anything in it I couldn't have found at the local visitor center. In my opinion, save your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Whatcom County
I think this is a great guide to have. Even seasoned whatcom county residents can find something new in this guide. There is something for everyone in this book.

I really like the format with each review givingand address, features, directions and hours if appropriate. It would benice for the outdoor trail reviews to include a small map with thedirections. The directions are good enough to get you there though.

Eachreview also has a full page description with great insite into what youwill find on the trail, in the gallery, what the food is like, theatmosphere.... ... Read more

Excerpt: Alabama's Fourth Congressional District is a U.S. congressional district in Alabama, which elects a representative to the United States House of Representatives. It encompasses the counties of Franklin, Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Walker, Winston, Cullman, Blount, Marshall, Etowah, and DeKalb. It also includes parts of Morgan and Pickens counties, as well as parts of the Decatur Metropolitan Area and the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. It is currently represented by Republican Robert Aderholt. Alabama's 4th Congressional District is a collection of smaller towns, mid-major, and major cities north of Birmingham, the largest being Decatur and Gadsden. Other cities in the district include Cullman, Jasper, Russellville, Ft. Payne, and Albertville. Stretching right across the state and crossing the Appalachian ranges, this district covers lightly populated rural areas. The district has the lowest percentage of African American population in the state. Only the southeastern portions of Decatur, the areas of Point Mallard, Burningtree Mountain, and Flint are within the 4th Conrgressional District. This area of northern Alabama faces the same economic challenges of much of the state - the most prominent being the loss of jobs in areas like textiles or manufacturing to international competitors. Fort Payne, the self-proclaimed "Sock Capital of the World," in particular has drawn political attention to its 150 sock factori...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=4113849 ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely container gardening book
This is a bright, gorgeously designed book with vivid color photos and charming illustrations.A worthwhile addition to your collection if you already have some knowledge or experience with container gardening, however it lacks depth on certain matters and concepts. For example, as someone who has little experience with composting, I would have preferred a more fleshed-out description or step-by-step instructions. Also, the author lists some of the problems and pests each plant might face, but only offers a sentence or two about how to prevent or eradicate them.Still, I found the short blurbs on each type of plant helpful, right down to which exact hybrids grow best in pots and what kind of yield to expect. This is the first container gardening book I've come across to include potted trees, although I was a little disappointed to find no citrus plants were included. The recipes included sound delicious, but many are dairy-intensive, using sour and heavy creams, so I doubt I'll make use of them.Overall, I found Kitchen Harvest a quick and enjoyable read and it spurred my excitement about gardening on into the fall and next year. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars SO SO
This book at first glance looked like a dream come true. However as I received the book I realized that the photos of topiary were not really inspirational and the information on how to really care for a container topiary was limited. They touch on frames, the touch on the best plant species for containers. It's kind of a just little introductory book to topiary. SO if you are thinking about getting into topiary this is your book. If you are a serious gardner than this is not your book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It captures the wonder of the original television movie with no added filler
I still remember the night when the original television movie "Battlestar Galactica" first appeared on television. As a science fiction buff, I was transfixed by the quality of the special effects and the Cyclons. The storyline and the action made for an excellent beginning. Unfortunately, the remainder of the series failed to live up to the start. With all the wide and empty slate of space to work with, the writers and producers found it difficult to get beyond simple human concepts.
This book is the novelization of the original movie and compared to other books in the genre it is quite good. The authors manage to capture most of the wonder and drama of the movie and avoid the common mistake of adding inconsequential filler. I still enjoy(re)reading it nearly three decades after the movie first appeared.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Free SF Reader
Your standard novelization type deal. The start of the series turned into a book, which is certainly fun for a kid wanting to go through it again.

Robots blowing everything up, robot dogs, cool space pilots, and all that sort of thing.Nothing really wrong with this effort from that point of view.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nothing you wouldn't expect.
I picked this book up in the sale section of the local library, long before the new series premiered, or the old series was out on DVD. We're talking mid/late-90s, here.
While I "enjoyed" the book, there was nothing to be enthralled with between the covers. It delivers the same general style of action as the show and movie, with a few shifts and contradictions to show for it. There was a hint of sexuality to it (how can there not be with Starbuck around?), but nothing beyond a mention-in-passing of a woman's figure, so even that wasn't a new thing.
If you like the old series, you'll like this book. While I am fond of the old, I am much more a fan of the new, though I did grow up on reruns of the old BSG. But this is just another book about a TV show universe.

5-0 out of 5 stars brilliant concept.
When I was 7 Battlestar came out, and i was instantly a fan. I wanted everything i could find related to the series, from action figures to comic books. This was published soon after the movie and series premiered.I recall it being in my elemetary school library, and I checked it out repeatedly.

Back then we had no VCRs to record and rewatch shows, so having this book was the closest thing. It was like a comic book, but with actual photos from the movie, with word balloons like comics. It told the whole movie. It was also very nicely done on high closs paper.

I treasured this book until it disappeared from the school library. What a trip back down memory lane it is to find this now some 26 years later.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, fantastic, magic...
I bought this book with Amazon from "bying from me". She sent it by priority mail. I am very pleased with this book because Battlestar Galactica is my favourite tv series ever. So, I wanted to "live" and understand the story. This book will help me.
Thanks a lot.
