2-0 out of 5 stars WE LOVE YOU, MICHAEL...BUT NOT THIS BOOK
We are of dissenting opinion here. True, the book is loaded with facts that we didn't know before,...but being absolute DIEHARD fans of Sir Bolton outside of listing albums and songs, correct syntax, every plug for Joyce's fan club,...and the attitude in general that all Michael Bolton is...is BEEFCAKE! Our preference for a book about Michael Bolton is MICHAEL BOLTON by Lee Randall, which delves more into his career and early hardships,...and whose binding holds up more than 2 days. Michael is a reputed perfectionist-but this book is far from perfect. By all means, PLEASE, get Secret Of The Lost Kingdom and his albums (including LOVE SHOULDN'T HURT)-they're woth every cent. This one...we're not so sure

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR ANY MICHAEL BOLTON FAN
I AM A BIG FAN OF MICHAEL BOLTON AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANY FAN WHO HASN'T ALREADY READ IT. I LOVED THE A TO Z ON MICHAEL AND THE GREAT PICTURES THAT WERE IN THE BOOK. EVERY THING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THEMAN AND HIS MUSIC YOU ARE SURE TO FIND IT HERE.

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute MUST for any fan of THE VOICE!!!
Finally a book that has all the true info and fabulous picture of this great artist. Every time I pick it up I learn just a little more about the man and his passions. I have been a fan for a number of years and have often wondered about the little things like " If Michael had a pet, what would it be?" Now I know. Thankyou for a priceless treasure trove of FACTS. It seems the authors had as much fun researching and writing this book as I am reading it.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Finally some truth on the Matter"
After reading as much material as I have in the past years concerning Michael Bolton and his career and never knowing actually what was the truth,I finally feel I have found some honest truth in the matter. Joyce Logan being a lifetime friend of Michael Boltons, added a sense of personal qualities to the book by sharing her experiences with the performer and her friend. The authors did a wonderful job with the format of the book.By using the A thru Z format any fan can pick up the book and with a simple word, look to find how the word is associated with Michael Boltons life and career. The black/white and color photos are displayed with alot of care and very appealing to all fans. The Trivia Games test your ability to remember details of this artists work and associations. I definitely would recommend this book to any fan or serious collector of Michael Bolton items. "Thank you," to all the authors for taking the time and such care to create a book with quality information !

5-0 out of 5 stars The best ever Michael Bolton book!
The photos are absolutely beautiful, and the information shows that these authors did intensive research work. It's so nice to have a tribute book about this truly gift singer...which is chock full of information that I never knew about him....and I've been a fan since 1985!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best illustrated children's books that I have ever seen
This is a very good book for children in the 10-12 year old age range. Michael and Jennifer are two children that are part of a school group visiting a large castle and they get separated from the others. While they are viewing two paintings of a man and a woman, a man comes up to them and offers to tell the story of the people in the paintings.
Prince Marlon is the heir to the throne of Mentoria, but his heart is uneasy. While leading a band of the king's soldiers against some peasants he fights a strong warrior until they agree to stop fighting. At that point, another of the king's soldiers deals the other warrior a deathblow.
After returning from the battle, Marlon leaves the castle dressed as a common man and wanders out to meet the people. He comes to the aid of a man named Gug and he goes home with him. Gug's daughter Nicole is beautiful and Marlon quickly becomes infatuated with her.
After Marlon spends some time working on Gug's farm, a herald of the king arrives searching for Marlon. The king is on his deathbed and the kingdom has fallen under the evil sway of the high priest Mordal. Marlon returns and leads an army against a rival kingdom. He emerges victorious, banishes Mordal and assumes the throne. He rules very wisely and the kingdom thrives.
This book is also beautifully illustrated; the characters are drawn with exquisite detail. The coloration somehow manages to be subtle yet sharp, the quality is as good as I have seen. The story itself is a fairly standard one of the crown prince trying to achieve an understanding of how the people in the kingdom actually live. It is a good story with a happy ending, as Marlon and Nicole become the king and queen of Mentoria and ascend to the throne to the genuine cheers of the populace.

4-0 out of 5 stars The secrets of the lost kingdom
I think People who lioke the hero slash romantic adventure type of thing should read this book. I think its a pretty good book for children 7-12 to read in their spair time. The book itself has some very interesting aspects that may or may not catch your catch your eye every once and a while so have fun reading this book and leave a good review.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Secret of the Lost Kingdom
There is nothing wrong with this book that should keep you from reading it. It has very detailed illustrations that look real. It also has a good story. It also teaches that tour guides don't always tell you everything. It tells the story of a prince who doesn't belive that rich people should be able to take poor people's land just to make themselves richer. It is a great book as long as you don't hate stories that take place in Midievil times.

5-0 out of 5 stars Myth in the Making
Wonderful bardic mastery here; as if the myth of King Arthur came alive again, yet its ending still expands into a living energy of our continuance - for here there is no wounded fisher king, but rather a continuance of love - father to son, brother to brother, man to man - without a doubt. As a female, I am reminded strongly of the "Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley, yet this tale is told from a male vantage point, who as of yet is only just beginning to discover that his lady love is real - as real as he.Complex yet so simply told, amazing mysteries of love unfolding from a point of ever-changing mysteries of all that we might yet now come to be.

The parallels of many Arthurian legends, and even a hint of "Avalon come true" are spoken here, within a form and style that must inspire the wee folk of our lives to live within its inspiration.I applaud this endeavor of artistry, and hope to see this lovely volume back in full publication again very soon.

Product Description
In Showing of Love, Julia Bolton Holloway provides a complete translation of Julian of Norwich’s ground-breaking text, opening windows of insight into her medieval world.

As a female mystic and theologian who was uniquely recognized (in a time when most women were not) for her holiness, Julian of Norwich also came to be known as a catechist, prophet, and spiritual director. Showing of Love records her own healing encounter with divine love and has for many centuries been a source of healing and inspiration for others.

Readers of Julian’s work find her belief that God sits in our soul as a fair city to be of profound value. That city is every city, Mary its queen, Christ its king. Julian offers these layers in rich text and variant readings.

Julian dedicated years of her life to shaping Showing of Love, at the end rewriting it to preserve it from censorship. The anchoress lived in St. Julian’s churchyard in Norwich. Her text was saved from destruction by nuns in Brigittine and Benedictine convents, first in England, then in exile after the Reformation. Julian’s writings were later published by the Benedictines in 1670. They reveal her strong links with Benedict that continue to have lasting value for readers today. Includes two-color ink on inside pages. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book and still very relevant
Although this book appears to be specific to SQL Server 2005, it's not. The techniques and tools are still extremely relevant to current and future versions of SQL Server. Whether you are a database administrator who handles performance issues on a daily basis or a developer building a database application, this book should be on your desk. The authors have a deep understanding of how to make your database server an efficient, stable system. Their ability to explain complex issues and provide relevant solutions makes this a must-have book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Complete Guide to Performance Issues
I was impressed with the contents of this book. For people who wants to know about the performance issues then this book covers it all. The chapters on locking and troubleshooting resembles daily work related issues and scenarios.

If i were to recommend anything to this will be some performance scripts that can be run together to collect and analyze stats on a regular basis.

Nevertheless the best and only book available for performance tuning in SQL server

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, Practical and Informative!!!!
From my experience with SQL Server and Oracle for the last 15 years of my IT experience, Database Performance tuning is more of an art and science (even though the book says it is more of a science). As SQL Server transformed into different versions, the information to gather performance related data matrix improved. Hence, the quest for ways to get information on how to troubleshoot performance problems in SQL Server grew.

I have referred many books on SQL Server Performance Tuning, but most of the books I have referred provided generic information and go on describing mundane performance tuning methods such as SQL Profiler, Execution Plan and Performance Logs without any examples to refer or try with. I did not find many books that deal with performance tuning concepts from ground up. This book defines the performance tuning concepts from ground up and also describes the "how and what" data point to gather, measure and analyze to troubleshoot the performance problems.

Book starts with good introduction to the basic concepts of Performance Tuning in a methodical approach. It defines how to understand a problem statement, how to go about solving those problems and how to prevent it from occurring. The book goes about all facets of performance tuning such as Server and database tuning, SQL tuning, creating a workload for creating a performance benchmark, system tuning for memory, processor and storage.

I liked the chapters dealing with SQL Server Wait types, Tuning Indexes, Tuning Schema and Capturing, Measuring and Replying workloads.
Like any other book, it has some shortcomings too. For instance there are some typos and which can easily be caught if you understand the subject in the chapter.

So I will suggest if you are an experience DBA or a DBA who wants to get into Performance Tuning (a good line to be in!!), please add this book to your cart!!!!(no.. I was not paid to write this!!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Good & Practical Advice
This book presents the reader with a good overview of features, including their trade-offs.It's a good read if you're looking for practical advice on how to implement/configure vs. what's possible to implement/configure.Additionally, it doesn't simply present separate topics in isolation, but connects them so that the reader has a clear understanding regarding how different features and implementation choices interact.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive guide to SQL Server
I came looking for this book to provide background information for the MCTS exam on SQL Server maintainence and also how to write faster T-SQL queries. I was not disapointed.

I am only about half way thru, but many of the topics covered appear on the exam, and go into sufficient depth and detail that I was at least enlightened and felt I learned something pratical. Performance monitoring, analyzing deadlocks and indexes, best practices, hardware configuration and how to write good queries are all covered.

The book amounts to a collection of white paper type articles by each of the authors. Each chapter stood by itself on the topic it covered, and would refer the reader to the apporprate pages when more information would be needed. While not bad in and of itself, the format was inconsistant between chapters, so it fell a little short as a tutorial.

Granted, how you find the is book may depend on your own experience level. For me it was neither boring or confusing. I found it enlighting.

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Michael Bolton is an American singer-songwriter and a former hard rock singer. He is best known for his soft rock ballads and tenor vocals. His achievements include selling many albums, eight top ten albums, two number one singles on the Billboard charts, and awards from both the American Music Awards and Grammy Awards. Bolton's hard rock band, Blackjack, once toured with heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne. He began recording as Michael Bolotin in 1975. He gained his first major hit as a songwriter, co-writing "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" for Laura Branigan, previously best-known for singing the disco-pop classic "Gloria". Narrowly missing the Top 10 on the U.S. pop chart, Branigan took the song to number one on the Adult Contemporary chart for three weeks in 1983. The two sought to work with each other again, and their next collaboration was when Bolton co-wrote "I Found Someone" for Branigan in 1985. Her version was only a minor hit, but two years later, Cher resurrected the song, and with it her own singing career. Bolton co-wrote several other songs for both singers. ... Read more
