Wonderful.Stunning...Any fan of industrialmusic or the beauty that is Neubauten will love this book.Lots of great period photos that i've never seen before and sometruly 'inventive' discussions and interviewsconcerning the music and philosophy of Neubauten. Both in German andEnglish (although if you read German you'll get much more than out of thebookthan if you don't) A hard first time read, or by someone who's not along time fan of the band. Gets deep into their philosophy and is wellworth the money. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great candid photos from the Bad Seeds 1992 tour
Photographer Peter Milne went on the road with Nick Cave and the BadSeeds, who allowed him to take pictures of the tour.

These wonderfulblack and white shots are most candid, many catching band members unaware,or, at best, unwilling, making for some amazing images.

A bonus is theforward written by Nick Cave, who expresses his feelings about thephotographer in his own interminable way, making this alone worthpurchase.

Nick Cave is the only artist to emerge from the post-punk era whose career can compare with legends such as Bob Dylan or Van Morrison, with a string of acclaimed albums including Junkyard, The Boatman’s Call, and his most recent epic, Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus.

Kicking Against The Pricks chronicles in depth these diverse personalities and the musical landscapes that Cave has inhabited, with a penetrating commentary on his themes and influences.

Excerpt: from the album Let It Be "Let It Be" is a song by The Beatles, released in March 1970 as a single, and (in an alternate mix) as the title track of their album Let It Be. It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon/McCartney. The single reached number one in the US, Germany, Australia, Italy, Norway and Switzerland and number two in the UK. It was the final single released by the Beatles while the band was officially considered an active group. Both the Let It Be album and the single "The Long and Winding Road", were released after McCartney's announced departure from and subsequent break-up of the group. McCartney said he had the idea of "Let It Be" after a dream he had about his mother during the tense period surrounding the sessions for The Beatles (the "White Album"). McCartney explained that his motherwho died of cancer when McCartney was fourteenwas the inspiration for the "Mother Mary" lyric. McCartney later said, "It was great to visit with her again. I felt very blessed to have that dream. So that got me writing 'Let It Be'." He also said in a later interview about the dream that his mother had told him, "It will be all right, just let it be." The first rehearsal of "Let It Be" took place at Twickenham Film Studios on 3 January 1969, where The Beatles had the previous day begun what would become the Let It Be film. During this stage of the film the group was only recording on the mono decks used for syncing to...http://booksllc.net/?id=613700 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great history of the most intense band of the 80s.
While the title is a bit misleading (Nick Cave's full career isn't covered), this book is an important document due to the lack of coverage that the Birthday Party have received since breaking up. Just as intense asIggy & The Stooges, the Sex Pistols, or Joy Division, their music waschaotic, menacing, emotionally charged, and black-hearted. A great deal ofinformation comes straight from band members and the author's attention todetails concerning the songs is rewarding for fans and insightful fornewcomers with adventurous tastes in music. A long overdue account of oneof the great post-punk bands. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cave-my kind of Christian
Watching Cave struggle with God (or wrestling, as God is want to do) has been a favourite pastime. Cave, in his introduction, lays himself bare as a seeker of the truth. In despair, he turns to a vicar who suggests he reads Mark. Why? It's short, he is told. Got to love a wise vicar. In the introduction we see a flawed human being searching for salvation. In Mark we meet Jesus, who sets about Saving. Does it get better than this? This is a very special little book, and I feel priveleged to own it. ... Read more

Product Description
Is being able to fly a gift or a curse?

Alone one day, a boy discovers he can fly. It is his instinct to keep his ability a secret, and so he does, stealing moments to practice, flying farther and farther each time, until he can soar like a swallow. Now he dreams of far-off places and great adventures. But someone else is dreaming, too. Wozzini, the traveling showman, has spied the boy practicing and dreams of money and glory. Before long, wearing a set of wings designed by Wozzini, the boy is a sensation. People come from all over to watch the miracle. One night, thieves, overcome with needing to possess the gift themselves, steal the boy and his wings, and the truth is revealed, in this instance, the truth of the heart. Told in the voice of classic myths and illustrated in atmospheric detail, the eagle boy's story is an inspiring tale of brains triumphing over brawn, and spirit conquering greed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Genres covered in The Boy Who Became an Eagle
The Boy Who Became an Eagle, written by Kathryn Cave and illustrated by Nick Maland, tells the story of an extraordinary boy who learns to fly and how his life makes a drastic change. This young man lives in a small community that is going though a rough time.He decides to fly away on his own and experience what the world has to offer.A traveling showman who runs a type of extraordinary-people show discovers him and makes him the main attraction.Soon the boy becomes homesick and wants to return home, but is abducted and held hostage until he outsmarts the criminals. At the end of the book the boy is back with his family and happy to be home. This book can fit into the fantasy genre or the realism genre. The story of the young boy is fantastic because he discovers that he can fly.He does not use wings; he just jumps from a mountain and keeps on gliding through the air.The storyline fits into the dream that many people have to be able to fly with the birds. He also uses his abilities to earn money being in a circus-type environment. The story fits the realism category because of the realistic settings of the towns and countryside. There is also the dynamic of the homesickness and the family love felt by the boy even when he is away.He also uses realistic ideas to outsmart the thieveswhen he is abducted. They believe that the wings made by the circus man are the reason that the boy can fly.The boy knows that the real ability lies in himself and when the thieves try to throw the boy out of a window he just simply keeps flying all the way home. The book shows aspects of both genres, but is a perfect combination to make the story fantastical and believable at the same time. With a fantastic flying ability the boy is able to return home to his realistic family and community. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Bristol Beauty (Beauties...) (?...)
I have been a devoted fan of Nick Cave for 20 years still I was not prepared for this book. I guess a good way to summarise the story is to say it is a sophisticated take on American Beauty - in England. Therefore it is a must read. The story about the soap and Darth Vader makes me smile everytime I think of it. Dont forget to listen to Let Love In / To be by your side or something similar once you finished.

5-0 out of 5 stars I just love it!
This book was recommended to me by a friend from Romania and I was very surprised to know that it was translated into Romanian. I looked it up on Amazon and the seller had great reviews so I immediately placed an order. To my surprise I got it delivered in a couple of days and it was brand new as advertised. I recommend it to anyone daring enough to read something very unconventional.

4-0 out of 5 stars As good as his music
The bastard. Not content with making provocative genius records for thousands of years. Scripting a decent movie. Co- creating wonderfull film scores he now writes a great novel. Equal to his musical output. An incestuouscousin to "The Road " ( though notas good as that masterpiece ). As twisted and dark as his best lyrics. Subtle too, because although it seems to be about Bunny we read it through the boys eyes. I'm jealous. ... Read more
