Excerpt: Eva Marie Cassidy (February 2, 1963 November 2, 1996) was an American vocalist known for her interpretations of jazz, blues, folk, gospel, country and pop classics. In 1992 she released her first album, The Other Side, a set of duets with go-go musician Chuck Brown, followed by a live solo album, Live at Blues Alley in 1996. Although she had been honored by the Washington Area Music Association, she was virtually unknown outside her native Washington, DC when she died of melanoma in 1996. Four years later, Cassidy's music was brought to the attention of British audiences when her version of "Over the Rainbow" was played by Terry Wogan on BBC Radio 2. Following the overwhelming response, a camcorder recording of "Over the Rainbow", taken at the Blues Alley, was shown on BBC Two's Top of the Pops 2. Shortly afterwards, the compilation album Songbird climbed to the top of the UK Albums Charts, almost three years after its initial release. The chart success in the United Kingdom and Ireland led to increased recognition worldwide; as of 2008 her posthumously released recordings, including three UK #1s, have sold around eight million copies. Her music has also charted top 10 positions in Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Switzerland. Born on February 2, 1963, at the Washington Hospital Center, Cassidy grew up in Bowie, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C.. She was the third of four children born to...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=89019 ... Read more

His career lasted from 1911 until his death in 1950, during which time he was commonly dubbed "the world's greatest entertainer. His performing style was brash and extroverted, and he popularized a large number of songs that benefited from his "shamelessly sentimental, melodramatic approach". Excerpt: "Blowin' Me Up (with Her Love)" is the first solo single by JC Chasez and was released in the U.S. in February 2003. He is the second member from 'N Sync to pursue his career as a solo artist. The song was later featured on the soundtrack for the 2002 drama film Drumline. It was released in the UK a year later in February 2004, where it was grouped together with "Some Girls (Dance with Women)" as a double A Side, and reached number 13. The music video for "Blowin' Me Up (with Her Love)" was directed by Bryan Barber and shot in 2002. JC approached Barber after seeing his video for OutKast's "The Whole World." "It's totally different from what he's done with *NSYNC," the director said. "He wanted to go left of center and that's what we did. We had some fun and presented JC in a whole new way." Aside from 'funky choreography,' sets built from auto wreckage and a post-apocalyptic wardrobe, the video features a lot of drummers. "Other than that, there's nothing to do with " - Barber said. The video appears to be set in a post-apocalyptic world. The plot revolves around a sexually-frustrated JC pursuing his love interest through a monster truck rally, a dirty diner, and, a parking lot, where he tries to seduce Tara Reid, only to be ignored. At the end, Tara has a change of heart and straddles JC on the diner's counter. JC celebrates his newfound love with a drag race. Melissa Smith also stars in the video as a girl dancing at the monster truck rally. "Blowin' Me Up" was featured in the movie Drumline, so there are movie clips scattered throughout. The video also features a dance routine by JC and several backup d...http://booksllc.net/?id=6026080 ... Read more

Janzens knowledge of the Kikongo language and his intermittent visits to the lower Congo region between 1964 and 1982 have paved the way for a contextual understanding of the roots of Western Equatorial African approaches to sickness and healing, combining African and Western derived biomedical therapies.
