Gary Cooper was born Frank James Cooper, on May 7, 1901, in Helena, Montana. Mr. Cooper was a famous motion picture star. A newspaper published in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1947, reported a speech supposedly made by the star in which he said to have praised the American Communist Party. The Daily Worker, an East Coast Communist newspaper published an article which stated: "Press Agent Hoax in Brazil Makes hero of Wrong Actor". The article said that this was a cheap trick to get the people to see his films - to take their money under false pretenses. The November 1951 issue of the bulletin "Counterattack" contained an article that stated for years Gary Cooper was prominent in the motion picture alliance for the preservation of American ideals which had led the fight against Communist infiltration in Hollywood. Mr. Cooper's house was burglarized on several occasions and incurred a loss of several thousand dollars each time. He also was the target of numerous extortion attempts.
