I think it is informational and brings insight to a child, but also to a parent. It gives a child a voice.

1-0 out of 5 stars My Mommy Hung The Moon A love Story
Bought this for our Grandchildren. They had trouble with the book as they knew their mother didn't do the things the book said thar she did. They know their mother is the greatest woman that has ever lived. They know what she does. This book was over the top.
It may serve some one else but it didn't do much for our family.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful tribute to mother love!
I bought it for all the mothers and children in my life for their holiday gifts.
It was funny and touching.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the others
Disappointed in this book. The others were written well, but this one lacked something. My daughter didn't like the story at all. Sadly, sending it back...

5-0 out of 5 stars Time to Rhyme from an Author in her Prime
This well-crafted book deserves a place in your bedtime routine!

Kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews --- whatever your local audience, they'll be delighted by this tribute to Mommy, told in rhymes that your children will quickly learn, memorize and quote back to you...

...Which is one good purpose of the well-told story. Repetition reinforces the lessons we hope our kids will learn --- including the primary lesson here: That the world is a safer place, and a better one, because Mommy shows up for duty day after day, night after night. Moms rock.

Grab it, read it, treasure it. It's well done and beautifully illustrated also!

5-0 out of 5 stars For my Birthday Girl
I bought this book for my daughters 4th birthday...it was perfect. She loves the book and can relate to the content.Jamie Lee Curtis has great books...I have to say that this is one of my favorites. Perfect gift for a 4 year old girl!

4-0 out of 5 stars Jamie Lee Curtis kid book
I am impressed with the book itself and really like Jamie Lee Curtis so I wanted the hardback copy, not paperback. Apparently, the hardcover is not stocked everywhere and I had to choose a seller.

The book was advertised as a "bargain book" and said it might have a small mark stating this. Actually, the book came without the cover and the book itself has not got the cute picture that is on the jacket. I was going to give it as a gift and don't feel that I can do that without the jacket.

To add insult to injury, it comes with the packing slip stating that it was advertised as having no jacket - I reread the description and still don't see that! They also shipped it in a bubble envelope and the corner was crunched.

So, buy Jamie Lee Curtis's books but we should all probably let sellers know that we want to know EXACTLY what we are getting so we can plan accordingly. In all fairness, due to the shipping damage, the seller would probably replace it but the birthday is in 3 days so it doesn't seem worth the hassle (I am 25 miles from the post office).

5-0 out of 5 stars Our story!
What a perfect book to begin the birthstory journey! My son has owned this book since he was just a little guy. He is now 11. It tells the tale of the family heading off on a plane to join him on his journey home. It was indeed almost identical to our story and it brings tears that someone has written the perfect book about it!I loved it and will always have it as a gift. Keep in mind that this book does tell the story of an adoption (domestic or other) where they get the call and head to the airport.Such memories for me and a beautiful story to show children it is just another way to come into the world and join your chosen family!

5-0 out of 5 stars Planting seeds of understanding
My wife and I picked up "Tell Me Again" at our child's book fair after a quick glance. All our children are biological, so we weren't looking at it from an adoptive family perspective. What we found, however, was that in the book's cute inquisitiveness, the story helped us explain to our children what adoption is. We don't have to worry about any embarrassing observations when our kids meet an adoptive family, because this book opened a dialogue for us to explain things ahead of time.

As far as my kids are concerned, adoption is just another way that parents have kids. Plus, they love the book and so it does get picked fairly regularly as a bedtime story. The pictures are big, contextual and funny and the story is well constructed.

The fact that it was written by Jamie Lee Curtis is beside the point. In fact, I thought the name was a coincidence. It wasn't until about a month after we bought it that we discovered JLC the actress was the same person who wrote this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect fit for many adopted children & parents
Checked this book out of the library -- it was a perfect illustration of our international adoption.Though it won't fit all adoption stories, the sentiment and joy of the first day together brought us all closer through the reading and reminded us of one of the best days of our lives. It tells a genuine slice of our family's experience.I don't understand how people can give a poor rating because this book doesn't "go deep" or highlight the challenges we face.We have many other books and resources to fill those spots, and sincerely appreciate the role this book fills in the whole picture.Thank you, Jaime Lee & Laura. We just bought our own copy.If you got on a plane to go meet and pick up your adopted baby, this is very likely the book for you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Our Story, But A Nice Story
My wife and I have adopted two girls from China so stories about adoption are important to us. Although Curtis' book is about a domestic adoption, I think it is important to show our girls the many ways families are formed. Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born is a cute story about a young girl who asks her parents about the first night of her life. There are many details she wants to know. Was she tiny and perfect? How did her parents feel the first time they held her? What was the lullaby that mommy sang as they fell asleep? I especially like how the father plays as much of a role in the story as the mother. Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born is a fun story that celebrates the beautiful blessing of adoption.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for adopted child
This was recommended to my daughter who just adopted a child. She was thrilled with the book. I ordered it before Christmas and got it right away. ... Read more

Product Description
Today I feel silly. Mom says it's the heat.
I put rouge on the cat and gloves on my feet.
I ate noodles for breakfast and pancakes at night.
I dressed like a star and was quite a sight.

Today I am sad, my mood's heavy and gray.
There's a frown on my face and it's been there all day.
My best friend and I had a really big fight.
She said that I tattled and I know that she's right.

Silly, cranky, excited, or sad--everyone has moods that can change each day. Jamie Lee Curtis's zany and touching verse, paired with Laura Cornell's whimsical and original illustrations, helps kids explore, identify, and, even have fun with their ever-changing moods.

Here's another inspired picture book from the bestselling author-illustrator team of Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born and When I Was Little: A Four-Year-Old's Memoir of Her Youth.

Amazon.com Review
Jamie Lee Curtis has starred in many movies, but she says that the children's books she has written mean more to her than any of herfilms. She and artistLaura Cornell have previously collaborated on two bestselling books: Tell Me Again About the Night IWas Born and When IWas Little: A Four-Year-Old's Memoir of Her Youth. This time, wefollow a little girl with curly red hair through 13 different moods, beginning with silly: "Today I feel silly. / Mom says it's the heat. I putrouge on the cat / and gloves on my feet." Of course, silly soon turns togrumpy and mean... to excited... to confused, and so on. Recognizing one's ownmood swings is a developmental milestone, one that some adults haven't yetmastered! Cornell's watercolor illustrations--wildly expressive andenergetic--effectively capture the volatility of our redheaded star.Whether she is happy or mad or dancing a solo in jazz, she is always "fullof pizzazz," and this book is, too. A clever mood wheel on the last pageallows young readers to change the little girl's expression--both her eyesand mouth. This is silly fun with a smart lesson for children from ages 4 to 8.--Marcie Bovetz ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointing mechanicals
The story was OK and, I think, would help a child better understand her emotions, however, the emotion the book really induced was frustration. The child was most interested in the last page that had wheels to turn to change the facial expressions of the book character. The wheels were almost impossible to turn.I don't think they even had a center spindle so they shifted and stuck when you tried to turn them.Very disappointing.I would have considered returning the book but had given it as a gift and couldn't very well take it back to exchange it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I was not please with this book at all. Several references in here that I do not feel are appropriate for childern. There is a sentence about "having a crush on a teacher (male)", one saying "this family is weird", one sentence about having a boyfriend and the mom having a brother and not being glad. Also "my mom dyed her hair orange"-should use the word "colored" vs dyed as in die. Kids get confused with that word. I gave the book away to an older child.

5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite
This was a gift for my two year old granddaughter and has quickly become her favorite. Her mother reports that it must be read at least two times a day and is always the choice for the book read at bedtime. My granddaughter has really been into showing us facial expressions to show her moods, like "I'm sad" and "I'm happy" so she is really enjoying this book.Another good book by Ms. Curtis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love This Book!
I got this book for my son, who is 5, and he loves it. I think it is so cute and funny and so does he. This book talks about a girls feelings and how she feels from one day to the next and her different moods. I highly recommend this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Aweful
I was very disappointed with this children's book. I agree with the reviews of the rhymes being disjointed and forced. Furthermore, the text is sometimes almost illegible when it is mixed within the illustrations. My child and I were given this book for free most likely because of the author. I feel that we were ripped off. I cannot recommend this book to any child of any age. ... Read more

Celebrate liking yourself! Through alternating points of view, a girl's and a boy's, Jamie Lee Curtis's triumphant text and Laura Cornell's lively artwork show kids that the key to feeling good is liking yourself because you are you. Like the duo's first New York Times best-seller, Today I Feel Silly and Other Moods That Make My Day, this is an inspired book to rejoice in and share. I'm Gonna Like Me will have kids letting off some self-esteem in no time!

Amazon.com Review
Actor Jamie Lee Curtis and winsome illustrator Laura Cornell continue their successful collaboration (Today I Feel Silly, When I Was Little, et al.) with this paean to poise and self-assurance, I'm Gonna Like Me.

The duo sets out to "let off a little self-esteem" by following a seriously self-actualized (and gratifyingly quirky) boy and girl throughout their day on alternating pages. The kids take turns carrying the lines, often switching off midsentence, to describe exactly how and why "I'm gonna like me." (Girl: "I'm gonna like me / when I'm called on to stand. / I know all my letters / like the back of my hand." Boy: "I'm gonna like me / when my answer is wrong, / like thinking my ruler / was ten inches long.") The call and response continues through the action-packed day, as the kids get up, go to school, have lunch, go to a birthday party, etc., until they finally get tucked in--so no opportunity for building self-esteem gets overlooked.

Young readers will like Curtis's words and the rhythmic repetition, but it's Cornell's scribbling, reminiscent of the New Yorker's Roz Chast, that makes the book stand out. From an imagined fashion-show runway walk (love that snooty fashion press) to a hilarious lunch table spread (got to get some of that "Cup o' Lettuce" and "Pork by the Foot" for your Doris Day lunch box), Cornell fills the book with funny faces and lots of laughs (the best of which might be the girl's pet turtle working out in a cage with a treadmill, next to a book titled "Exercising Your Illegal Turtle"). 5-0 out of 5 stars A great way to start the year
I loved this book.It is a great way to start the year.My first term is about tolerance and I begin with loving yourself.I put the passage from the last page on my door and have the kids talk about what it means to them."I'm gonna love me 'cause I'm loved and I know it and loving myself is the best way to showing it."

5-0 out of 5 stars So Glad We Got This Chearful Book
I was hesitant to purchase this book because it was written by a famous actress making me think it was likely just a fad book or published because of its well-known author.I was wrong. This book has a great message about how a child should like themselves when they succeed or fail.Whether they are chosen first or last, they are valuable because of who they are inside and will like themselves no matter what because liking yourself is the best way to honor those who love you.The illustrations are colorful and cheerful and the book itself has great rhythm and is fun to read aloud - we often act out parts to keep our little even more engaged.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
Good. I enjoyed it and it had a great message. However, it seemed just a bit over my just-turned-four-year-old's head. Of course he likes himself. He just didn't seem to get what they were talking about. I'll have to drag this one out again later on.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful way to build self-esteem.
This is a terrific book for children, teaching them to like themselves just they way they are without coming off as preachy. The illustrations are brilliant -- full color on every page. The cadence is catchy, a rhythm that carries the story throughout the entire book.

The vocabulary is simple, but it will be difficult for some younger readers to readthemselves, because half of it is written in cursive. Both of my children, ages 5 and 7, enjoy having me read them this book.Even I feel myself in good spirits when I'm done.Fun to read and fun to be read to, an excellent book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Darling Teaching Book

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun book
Bought this for my grandkids and they loved it. The concept may be over their heads but they loved the pictures and the rhythm of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!
My two-year old picked this book almost every night for about a year as one of his books to read before bed.As a parent it was a fun book to read to him.He is now 4 and still picks this one up quite often. As a result of this book's popularity with my son, I have purchased it for several friends' children, and it was meet with great enjoyment with them as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I thought this book was fantastic. It's a great lesson for everyone, including adults. Jamie Lee Curtis has a fantastic way to tell great life lessons. I would recommend this book for all ages. Personally, I thought this was great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
Good, I enjoyed it and of course the illustrations are marvelous and it's a great message. The problem is that my three-year-old wants to read it, but he just doesn't really get it.The jokes a little over his head. Of course it's a great message for him, but it seems to be written a little bit above him. It's like he wants to like it, but.... Hopefully when he gets older, this will be a good one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do Your Best to Help Others: Answering an Old Question Coming from a Child's Naive Perspective
One of the great things about children is the way they can take words literally . . . and give us a new perspective on life as we stop to think about the words we employ for well-understood adult idiomatic expressions. "Is there really a human race?" might thus be seen as a literal question about all the racing around that children see around them, as perhaps reinforced by television shows like The Amazing Race and other reality show competitions. Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell take that literalness and turn it into motherly wisdom for a child who's concerned about what it means to be in so much competition.

As I looked at the second two-page spread in the book, I had to laugh aloud as I saw the vision of people racing through what looked a lot like Central Park in New York City while mom and child sit on a park bench. I have often wondered why New Yorkers walk so fast . . . and now here is a story that picked up on that.

From there, the child asks mom a series of naive questions about the race:

"Did it start on my birthday?"
"Do I warm up and stretch?"
"If the race is a relay, is Dad on my team?"
"Am I a jockey or am I a horse?"
"Is there pushing and shoving to get to the lead?"
"If the race is unfair; will I succeed?"
"Do some of us lose?"
"What am I winning?"
"And why do I do it, this zillion-yard dash?"

Mom then provides a bit of perspective:

"Sometimes it's better not to go fast. There are beautiful sights to be seen when you're last."
"Shouldn't it be that you just try your best?"
"Shouldn't it be looking back at the end that you judge your own race by the help that you lend?"
"So take what's inside of you and make big, hard choices. And for those who can't speak for themselves, use bold voices."
"And make the world better for the whole human race."

As you can see, the book turns back to the subject of brotherhood without getting stuck tricky philosophical bases. Instead, brotherhood is just presented as the way to go. Very nice!

As charming as the words are, the illustrations are critical to this story and carry it forward much more powerfully than any words alone could do. As usual, Ms. Cornell gives both panoramic images and tiny details that will intrigue the most observant young child. As an example of the detailed humor, the child's backpack has an open package in it. If you look closely and turn the page, you can see that these are "Nutrition Patches . . . No Need to Stop and Eat . . . Eat and Run!" Now, even a sober-sided adult who doesn't like to read to children can appreciate humor like that.

To me, the best aspect of the book is that the story and illustrations open the doors for a nice discussion between parent (or grandparent) and child. Too many children's books try to exclude the reader from having a role as a discussion leader. I would describe this book as being designed to be a discussion starter. And it's a discussion that is good to have . . . getting out of the rat race so you can join the human race.

Slow down, make good choices, help others, and enjoy!

Product Description

Haven't you ever wondered ...

Where do balloons go
when you let them go free?
It can happen by accident.
It happened to me.

Do they tango with airplanes?
Or cha-cha with birds?
Can plain balloons read
balloons printed with words?

When one little boy accidentally lets go of his balloon, his imagination takes him on its journey.

Jamie Lee Curtis's gentle and humorous exploration of the joys and perils of a balloon's life is whimsically brought to life by Laura Cornell's illustrations. From the best-selling author-illustrator team of Today I Feel Silly and Other Moods that Make My Day comes another delightful mystery about letting go.

Includes cool reusable stickers and two play areas!

Amazon.com Review
Anyone who has ever let go of a balloon string and watched the bright object go up and up and out of sight will appreciate this whimsical picture book that ponders the age-old question Where Do Balloons Go? This "uplifting mystery"--examined in singsong rhyme by Jamie Lee Curtis and playfully explored with Roz Chast-like illustrations by Laura Cornell--is a new offering from the team behind Today I Feel Silly, When I Was Little, and Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born.

Where do they go
when they float far away?
Do they ever catch cold
and need somewhere to stay?

"Do they tango with airplanes? / Or cha-cha with birds? / Can plain balloons read / balloons printed with words?" Cornell's splashy colorful spreads (one which folds out to four full pages) pop with plenty of witty details. One balloon, for example, waits nervously with a suitcase outside the Bates Motel. In a balloon-ridden urban scenario, advertisements promote balloon-friendly services such as "The Detanglers, professionals since 1934." This exuberant book will have you half-believing that balloons are people, too. A page of vinyl reusable stickers in the back can be used on the sky-and-cloud wash on the front endpaper, or the space-scape (complete with comets) on the back endpaper. Next time your child's balloon drifts away, it'll be much easier for him or her to imagine it dancing in Bolivia than caught up in phone wires! (Ages 4 to 8) --Karin Snelson ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Where do balloons Go?
A gooddown to earth book, death seems acceptable. It was loved by a four year old.

2-0 out of 5 stars too abstract
I think this book is too abstract for a child. Children enjoy a simple story. I didn't agree with the others who thought the pictures were too busy. Children enjoy nice illustrations and it gives parents plenty to talk about and discuss. I also didn't know what we were supposed to do with the stickers in the back of the book. They didn't seem to fit with any of the other stickers to make anything. Plus you could only put them on the one back page of the book.

Outstanding way to appreciate loved ones while they are with us and what happens when they are no longer with us. Wonderful reading! One of my children's favorites.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Big Words Poem
In order to ILLUSTRATE my point about this book.
I've decided to write in a SIMILAR manner.Look:
My daughter and I read a lot TOGETHER.
Perhaps this one RUSHED by the author to get her
quota of titles by the PUBULISHER required,
and so the writing is backwards and UNINSPIRED.
The art is not bad and the ILLUSTRATOR I commend,
but my big word for this book is not RECOMMEND.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspiration for little kids
I love this book! Not quite as much as I thought I would when I bought it but still acceptable. I found the illustrations to be a bit chaotic and distracting from the point of the book: teaching little kids better vocabulary. Several of the words I had a hard time even reading. However, the words that are highlighted are excellent for children to learn and use. My 2 year old is going to read this book a lot!

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!!!
My four yr. old loves this book and has had me read it almost every night. The terms are explained well and are easy for her to understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is an awesome book... my 3year old now uses a couple of the words he learned in the book and always is asking to read his word school book (Big Words).

5-0 out of 5 stars Big Words for Little People is a must for every family with kids!
Adults and kids alike will delight in the melodic, wonderful lessons teaching kids to use their words and understand how to fit in the big people's world. We have shared this all around and gotten a copy for our library; it is that good! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Review from Books That Heal Kids
I'm an elementary school counselor and I love this book. This is a book some of our kindergarten teachers use along with a writing and art project. Over the years I've noticed the cute drawings up on the walls and the cover of It's Hard to be Five sitting on their bookshelves. Soooo, of course I finally had to pick it up and see what all the fuss is about. And now I totally get it! This book is ADORABLE and validates all the five year olds!

This would be wonderful to read not only in the beginning of the year but also the end. Sort of a - WOW. Look at how far you've come! You've been learning responsibility, friendship, how to be a student, dealing with challenges, and accomplishing them. I know it's important to have academic success but it's also important to recognize the aspects of the social and emotional growth kids go through. Try this one out, I think you'll like it!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's Hard to Be Five
I use this book at the beginning of the school year with my kindergarten students.Kindergartens today are structured more like first grade classrooms of the past. The young students are required to sit and listen for longer periods and there is a lot less play time than they are used to.This book assists me in lessons on setting up the class rules, while using a light-hearted tone. The book also assists with lessons on character development. The book enhances self-awareness by helping us open discussions on the structure of the classroom routine and how the five year olds may have difficulty adapting to it.The children love the illustrations and often laugh out loud when I read it to them. They ask to hear it again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is hard to be five!
I bought this for my daughter for her fifth birthday. She loves it. She likes that she can relate to this book and the book is enjoyable. We have fun reading this together, we read it on her birthday. I like all of the books we have read by Jamie Lee Curtis, she is a wonderful childrens author!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Hard to be Five
This is a great story. My son will be five soon and we read it a few nights each week.He loves the things that happen to the boy in the story.I would definitely recommend this book to other parents.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely, lovely little book

5-0 out of 5 stars My child loves this CD
I'll be honest. This CD is not my favorite. But my 3-year-old LOVES it.LOVES LOVES LOVES it--because throughout the whole CD, JLC talks to her.For her, the narration is perfect. The tone is perfect. The content is perfect. And she loves that JLC asks her questions and tells her stories.

For that reason, I highly recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring, boring, boring...
I bought the book "it's hard to be five..." because the book was describing my own son...this book is great, full of real life scenarios for a 5 years old boy. Then I saw "The jamie Lee Curtis Audio collection" and I thought: It should be good and great...Huge mistake!

First of all...Mrs.Curtis narration is B-O-R-I-N-G Boring, boring, boring.
She just can helped it. I did not like it at all. All the tracks on this CD are very bad narrated but the worst part is when she is reciting "When I was little"her voice is lifeless, dull, very very emotionless and of course.. not interesting for little ones. She should listen "The cat on the hat audio collection" By Dr Seuss in order to get an idea about what exactly is to be working having on mind little ears.

I wish I could get my money back!!!!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Love Jamie Curtis, HATE THIS BOOK
I thought this book would be as great as its title, but instead got 1) Illustrations that my class of five-year-olds and I couldn't make out.2) A line about no car seat (and riding up front!). 3) References to Cheetos and Captain Crunch.I have enough trouble not setting up my children for childhood diabetes and eating disorders without these references.I guess it's back to Winnie the Pooh, whose honey goes on whole wheat and whose illustrations are clear and full of the detail 5-year-olds love.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVED these books!
I first saw Jamie Lee Curtis on the Dr Phil show in regards to these books. At the time, I had no children. I bought these books to read to my niece & nephew then 6 and 4. Since then, we found out we were expecting our first child and I'm so happy to be including these books in my daughter Samantha Chayse's life! They are so full of knowledge without the child even knowing they are learning! The illustrations are colorful and full of kid friendly objects for them to stare at, while the writing and the subject matters are so key to the life of a child. I wish I had these books to read when I was young, but now we're both learning about being a kid and growing up together. I LOVED these books! ... Read more
