The case of the British Crown vs. George has been dubbed the British counterpart of the American O.J. trial because the victim, Jill Dando, was one of England's most loved television personalities. And her savage murder ignited a national outcry for justice. Unlike the Simpson trial, though, Barry George, the defendant accused of Ms. Dando's murder, was convicted. In a critical assessment of the British "trial of the century," author Scott Lomax raises the tragically valid possibility that justice might have been sacrificed to quench a public demand for a conviction of the only identified suspect. Lomax offers the probability that British "bobbies" and investigators blundered both ethically and legally in everything from handling so-called evidence to out-and-out fabricating it. More frightening is Lomax' theory that Dando may not even have been the intended victim of whoever killed her. George, who has steadfastly maintained his innocence, sits today in a prison in the UK as activists and supporters trudge on in their pursuit of justice for him. If author Lomax is right in his findings after an exhaustive review of the evidence against George, this case actually has something else in common with Simpson, more than being "the trial of the century:" justice wasn't served in either. ... Product Description
Jill Dando a British Televison Programmmes Presenter was murdered in a bizarre "Professional Commando Style " on the doorstep of her home; with her head forced into ground and a one shot bullet with most of the propellant removed to fit a one shot gun. It was specially silenced to kill her quietly with a soft brain tissue kill. A "fall guy" (Patsy) was charged by Police very quickly in a few days; but only after the Police had spent a year of no success in the investigation. The "fall-guy" was convicted in an appalling Miscarriage of Justice trial on flimsy evidence. After 6 years in prison; a second trial jury set him free as innocent of the crime; another £1 million victim compensation and £25 million wasted by Police? Yet again; another in a long line of continuous poor British Police investigations; that British taxpayers are forced to endure by their rotten Governments; with nobody ever loosing their jobs when corruption and misfeasance allegedly may have occurred in the Police. ... Product Description
She was attractive, successful and, at the age of 37, about to marry the man she loved. Then, with a single bullet to the head, on her own doorstep, and in broad daylight, she became Britain's most famous murder victim. The national shock that followed was a measure not only of the cruelty of the crime but also of her remarkable popularity. After ten years in national television, the woman who insisted her secret weapon was her ordinariness had created something extraordinary. The BBC's golden girl was also the girl next door -familiar, trusted and liked by millions. Her murder remains unsolved and also scarcely believable. Brian Cathcart, author of "The Case of Stephen Lawrence" and "Were You Still Up for Portillo?", recounts Jill Dando's development from gawky schoolgirl to glamorous celebrity. Drawing on her own words as well as the testimony of friends and colleagues, he seeks in her background and relationships the reasons for her powerful appeal, asking the key question: Was she what she seemed? He also examines in detail the clues left behind by the killer and the evidence assembled by one of Britain's most exhaustive murder inquiries. What, for example, was the role of the sweating man at the bus stop? And how much does the bullet tell us? "Jill Dando: Her Life and Death" is a revealing look behind the public mask of celebrity and a thorough investigation into one of the most shocking murders of recent times. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Jill Dando: Her Life and Death
Jill Dando, it seemed had everything.

The queen of television's prime time, she was trusted and loved by millions, while at thirty-seven she herself had finally found love. Then one bullet made her Britian's most famous murder.

Itwas a crime that took the breath away: cruel but unfathomable. Serb terrorist, criminal hit man, jilted lover or plain madman - the evidence pointed to all, and none. And it raised disturbing questions. Was Dando the person she seemed? Had she in some way invited death? Is any clebrity safe?

In a fascinating study of fame and crime, Brian Cathcart charts Dando's rise from gawky schoolgirl to household name and seeks the sources of her huge popularity. Then he dissects the murder, the intensive investigations it prompted and the evidence that led, two years on, to a sensational Old Bailey trial. As he demonstrates, there has never been a case like it.

Excerpt: "Jack the Ripper" is the best known pseudonym given to an unidentified serial killer active in the largely impoverished districts in and around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. The name originated in a letter by someone claiming to be the murderer that was disseminated in the media. The letter is widely considered to be a hoax, and may have been written by a journalist in a deliberate attempt to heighten interest in the story. Other pseudonyms used for the killer at the time were "The Whitechapel Murderer" and "Leather Apron". Attacks ascribed to the Ripper typically involved women prostitutes from the slums whose throats were cut prior to abdominal mutilations. The removal of internal organs from at least three of the victims led ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=6860726 ... Read more

Product Description
On 26 April 1999, BBC presenter and "golden girl" Jill Dando was gunned down outside her home in a quiet West London street - in broad daylight. It was a seemingly senseless killing that stunned the nation. There were rumours of hired gunmen and revenge killings, but the man seen leaving the scene of the crime was not identified until much later, when local man Barry George was charged and put on trial and subsequently found guilty of Jill's murder. Three years after Jill's death, prizewinning reporter David James Smith's book - written with the co-operation of Jill's family, fiance Alan Farthing, and the police - supplies the detailed context of one of the most enduring murder mysteries of modern times. ... Product Description
Jill Dando was a lovely girl; who was a British Television Presenter and never politically motivated at all. She was planning to marry; but she was professionally assassinated on the doorstep of her home on a random visit to her home in Central London; after being given a parking spot mysteriously in front of her own house front door by a blacked out windows "Judas Goat" motor car. She was subdued into the ground quickly by a professional commando type guy in 3 seconds; whilst opening her front door; and then posed on her knees with her mouth pressed into her concrete door-step to silence any screams. Then her head was posed at an angle for a single shot soft brain tissue only kill; using a special "one-shot-gun" and specially silenced with most of gunpowder removed from the bullet's holding casing. The gun was embedded so hard into her neck; it left a half an inch impression of it's barrel in her neck. The perfect commando style killing with no sound just total silence from the embedded gun and the specially silenced bullet. The British Police spent a year chasing suspects; and after a year, possibly when their projected budget was reaching crisis point; they sudenly arrested and charged within a few days a loner unemployed misfit (maybe a fall-guy/patsy); and he was incredibly convicted at his first trial on very poor evidence. However Thank God he was acquitted at his second trial after 6 years falsely in prison and milions of pounds of taxation monies spent wrongly. Plus that's another £1 million pounds compensation pay-out for false imprisonment by British Govenment due to slooppy maybe worse Policing. How can britain ever have the death penalty with endemic Miscarriages of Justice failing innocent taxayers time and time again under rotten Governments. These compensation monies paid to innocent people of appalling Policing; must always be deducted from Police salaries; as it is now an epidemic in Britain of Miscarriages of Justice constantly with innocent people jailed; but vitally rich judges, lawyers and of course Police people.Sadly due to appalling British Policing and the appalling British Justice System some may say rotten; Jill Dando's killer(s) are free in Europe somewhere? ...
