5-0 out of 5 stars Good Girl
Who knew Eileen had it in her?She is a very good writer and I agree with everyone else who critiqued her books.Being in the soap business definitely helped her build her scenery and construct the dialog for the book. She knows a lot of things we don't.Easy reading and just darned enjoyable. She's good and its a pleasure to read her books.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good read
When Alex finds her friend Shana dead body, she works her way into her detective boyfriend's case and they travel to Las Vegas where they trip the light fantastic as they search for clues. In the meantime, Alex's ex comes back seeking something that Alex is not willing to give up to him at all.I love the characters and the tome to soap operas. This was an enjoyable and entertaining read that left us in typical soap opera fashion with a cliffhanger.I can't wait for the next book in this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This being the third book in the series for Eileen Davidson, it does not disappoint. I downloaded this one from Kindle and read it in less than a week! Of course, being a Young and Restless fan, in my mind's eye I always see Eileen as Alex, so it really puts more of a face to the character. I can't wait for the fourth installment just to find out what happens with Alex and Jakes! Totally divalicious!!

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent serie
I am a big cozy mystery fan.I have read all three of the Davidson books and am eager to see the next one.Eileen Davidson has done a good job creating characters that you care about. She has been able to "grow" them in realistic relationships.I hope that the humor continues.I need the escapism.

4-0 out of 5 stars amusing whodunit
Former Playmate Shana Stern invites soap opera star Alex Peterson to the annual Halloween party at the Playboy Mansion.Alex escorted by her BFF George comes as Little Bo Peep, but looking at the nakedness surrounding her feels more like a lost sheep. However, instead of a good time, she finds her hostess dead, a murder victim.Unable to resist due to a connection to the victim especially since Shana was telling her she was in trouble and she has had success as an amateur sleuth (see Dial Emmy for Murder) the actress investigates.

As she makes her inquiries, Alex finds there is little progress. However, she works the case in between taping of the TV show and eluding her fans who interfere with her investigation.Alex also deals with her ex Randy who wants custody of their daughter Sarah and her boyfriend LAPD Detective Frank Jakes who wants her off the case and demands more quality time with her.

Diva Las Vegas is an amusing whodunit with the tsuris that Alex seems to step into being the prime story line while the investigation takes a back seat. The sleuthing is pure "luck being a leading lady tonight" (from the cover) as Alex makes no progress investigating the case until she "lucks" into the solution.Still fans of the soap opera amateur sleuth series will enjoy this jocular entry because it takes a talented writer to create a work like this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better Than I Expected Mystery Story
Although I did not really know what to expect when I picked up Eileen Davidson's Dial Emmy for Murder, my expectations were not very high. After reading several disappointing light mysteries in a row, I thought I might be in for another disappointment. I love watching Eileen on The Young and the Restless, so I thought I would give her story a try.

I am so glad I did. Dial Emmy for Murder is a much deeper and more compelling mystery than I thought it would be. The main character, Alexis Peterson, arrives at the daytime Emmys as a presenter and soon finds out why her co-presenter didn't show up. Now she has another murder mystery on her hands. Not having read her first book, Death in Daytime, I had a little catching up to do as far as her changing shows and who a few of the characters were, but that wasn't difficult at all.

This book has several threads going at once, which keeps things interesting. Also of interest is the relationship between Alexis and detective Frank Jakes. There is a playfulness to the relationship that is fun to watch as the two draw closer together. As I was reading the book, I could hear Eileen's character Ashley's voice in Alexis. She spoke much as Ashley does on Y&R. It was not distracting at all, but made the charcter of Alexis feel all the more familiar and real.

The plot heats up quickly as more murders occur and Alexis finds her own life in danger. How she and her favorite detective are able to stop the killings before it is too late for Alexis is, of course, what we enjoy most.

With her third book, Diva, Las Vegas, on the way, we are more than ready to check in with Alexis and Jakes to see what they get into next.

Dial Emmy For Murder: A Soap Opera Mystery

4-0 out of 5 stars Light and Entertaining
The second in the mystery series featuringa TV soap opera star (a third is due in 2010). The author, an actress, also being a soap opera star, presumably knows the business well, but, aside from using the studio as a setting for some of the action, there is little inside know-how reflected in the books. Nonetheless this one is just the thing to pick up when one wants none of the real troubles of the world and, yet wants to keep the mind mildly diverted. The author has no intention of challenging Martha Grimes. P. D. James or other of the Queensof "serious" mystery writing (save in sales) but rather is rather more in the style ofEvanovitch. There is abit, not too much, of romance, a bit of family (her mother and child),a bit of danger, and a bit of problem solving. Just enough of each to humanize the action and provide continuity among the books in the series.A decent few hours diversion.

3-0 out of 5 stars An entertaining mystery
Readers were first introduced to Alexis Peterson in Daytime in Death, book one of A Soap Opera Mystery series. Alex is the number one suspect in the murder investigation of a head writer on The Yearning Tide. Determined to clear her name, she begins her own investigation and finds she's quite good at being an amateur sleuth.

In Dial Emmy for Murder, Alex has left her former soap, The Yearning Tide, and is now a cast member of The Bare and the Brazen. It's the night of the Daytime Emmy Awards and Alex is one of the presenters. When her co-star and fellow presenter, Jackson Masters, doesn't show, Alex is forced to present the award herself. Little does she know, she's about to walk into another murder investigation.

Dial Emmy for Murder is a light, cozy mystery. The killer is evident as soon as he/she is introduced in the storyline, however this book is an enjoyable read. I have to admit, I was more interested in the blooming relationship between Alex and Detective Jakes than the murder investigation. There's also a sub-plot regarding Alex and her estranged husband. He embezzled money from his clients and stole Alex's retirement fund. Now he's back and is demanding to see their daughter.

If you're looking for a entertaining story, with a light mystery thrown in, then Dial Emmy for Murder is the answer. Book three of the series is in the works. Can't wait? There's a sneak peek included in Dial Emmy for Murder.

3.5 Stars

4-0 out of 5 stars A delightful read
There is only so much gossip and finger pointing an actor like Alexis Peterson can take from her own cast mates. She leaves The Yearning Tide to join the cast of The Bare and the Brazen. This sets the media a buzz with frenzy. Following a murder case that Alexis helped solved previously, she is ready for a break. Unfortunately she is busy preparing to co-present Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series with her new leading man...the hunky Jackson Masters.

It comes time for Alexis and Jackson to present and Jackson is no where to be found. The show must go on. Alexis presents by herself, when suddenly Jackson's body drops from the ceiling, landing right next to her. Detective Frank Jakes, Alexis's on again and off again love interest is on the case. He asks Alexis to assist him. As whom better to help find a killer in a world where back stabbing is the name of the game...than a soap star.

What a fun, quick read. Alexis is like a modern day Nancy Drew. She is so loveable. Author, Eileen Davidson infuses her work as a reigning queen of soap operas and combines it with the world of mystery. Any fan of soaps will love this book and Alexis. The cast of characters are all relatable to the characters from both The Young and The Restless and Days of Our Lives. Hey, even the names of the shows Alexis used to star in...The Yearning Tide and The Bare and the Brazen are both plays on the other shows. I didn't read the prior novel, Death in Daytime that also featured Alexis but Dial Emmy for Murder can be read as a stand alone novel. This book is just plain old fashion fun and quirky. I plan to check out Death in Daytime.

2-0 out of 5 stars AMATEURISH
Although I did finish the book, I was disappointed throughout with the quality of the writing, which was amateurish at best. The author seemed to try too hard to use "every day talk" and slang, to the point that it took away from the book--became increasingly annoying. The identity of the murderer was predictable, evident almost at the moment he was introduced.I know that writers generally improve as they continue writing, but I would want to leaf through the next book before purchasing.I would definitely not want to read another book by this author if the writing has not improved. My advice to Eileen Davidson, whom I love as an actress, is "stick to knitting."

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended fun!
"Death in Daytime" by Eileen Davidson is a delightful mystery set in the wacky world of soap operas. This cozy will have you rooting for its plucky heroine, Alex (don't-call-me-a-diva!) Peterson, a single mom and soap star.Alex has always had an interest in crime investigation, but when her vindictive head writer is murdered, Alex finally gets the chance to play detective.

The book is filled with wonderfully recognizable soap characters, as well as their actor counterparts, the show's sensible and true-blue hairdresser, not one--but two--hunky potential boyfriends for Alex, and a good little murder mystery besides.

Davidson's snappy style includes laugh-out-loud observations about life, love, and drama--daytime and otherwise. This is a great read for mystery fans, TV fans, or any fan of the radiant and talented Eileen Davidson, award-winning actress and now successful novelist.I have already ordered my copy of her second book! - Betsy Stowe, author, Calico Tales...And Others

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Written
Plot sounded interesting - nice cozy mystery. But the writing itself turned me off before I got half-way through. There was too much of "first I did this, then I did that".And every time she mentioned her daughter, Sarah, we were told what a good mother she was.Is that really necessary?Again, I thought it had potential, but the amateur writing really turned me off.

5-0 out of 5 stars Death in Daytime
Super book. Can't wait for the next one. The heroine sounds like what I think Eileen Davidson sounds like for real.

4-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing and funny
Good read. Those who always wanted to know what happens or couldhappen behind thescenes of a daytime soap opera should read it. There is one thing i didn't like though and that was all the extreme admiration for Alex...she is the leading character, but still, was too much. ... Read more

One star so I can get out of this review of something I've never seen

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read
I originally read this book because of Laurell K. Hamilton...I love her books and felt I couldn't go wrong.Well sadly I didn't like her Anita story featured in this one as much as the full length books and was surprised to say I enjoyed the other writers better (who I had never heard of prior to reading this book). The good thing is though that the book reads pretty quickly. There are four stories included in "Cravings" and they are about things such as vampires, werewolves, a bit of magic and sex!

3-0 out of 5 stars 2 good, 1 bad, 1 shameful
This was a true some good, some bad collection.

LKH- shame on her for not bothering to write a story for this anthology! This story was a few chapters pulled from one of her Anita Blake books. Really, if she was committing to writing a story for this anthology, she should have had the integrity to actuall write one, not cheat and use something she already had.

MJD- her stort was too cute. I'm only a little familiar with her Queen Betsy series as I only read the first few of the series. Can't remember why I turned away from the series, but now want to get reacquainted with her world again!

EW- my least favorite. I wasn't familiar with her before this story and won't bother to read anything else by her either.

RY- liked this story a lot. I will definitly find more books by this author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking for authors? Here is the perfect preview!
This book introduced me to Laurell K. Hamilton, thank goodness for that. She is one of my favorite authors of all time. Read this book and find out why!

3-0 out of 5 stars Some good, Some bad
Some stories stood alone and others you needed to have read the author before.Hamilton's "Beyond the Ardeur" was almost incomprehensible since I had not read the author before. It was slow and boring and I almost didn't finish it.2 stars is kind for this story.Davidson's "Dead Girls Don't Dance" was cute, especially if you are a Queen Betsy Fan, 5 stars from me.Wilks' "Originally Human" stands alone and is a pretty good story, 4 stars. Finally, York's "Burning Moon" is another good story, 4 stars.

Law Making and The Scottish Parliament: The Early Years offers the first wide-ranging critical analysis of legislative developments in those areas of law and policy devolved to the Scottish Parliament under the devolution settlement. It begins with a brief account of the devolution settlement and summarises the themes emerging from the subsequent chapters. Thereafter, sixteen themed chapters, each dedicated to a discrete area of the law and written by an acknowledged expert in the field, provide critical evaluation of the Scottish Parliament's contribution, highlighting what it has achieved, what it has failed to do and what might be done in the future. In a single volume, Law Making and The Scottish Parliament: The Early Years provides a scholarly evaluation of a number of key legislative achievements of Scotland's devolved parliament in its first decade. It will appeal to legal and other scholars and students, lawyers and anyone with an interest in Scottish politics, policy-making and law. ... Read more
