It Can Change the Way You Feel About Nurses Forever
Most wonderful books change you in some way,and this beautifully written book is no exception. I couldn't stop reading all the wonderful stories. They taught me how to be a better patient, a better human being, and a better caretaker of my soul and body. Richly written with heartwrenching stories about the ups and downs of nursing, this book made want to run out and buy it for all my friends. Not because it was about nursing, but rather more than that---it was a book about living and dying--and the men and women nurses who act as midwives to these experiences. This book is both informative and literary, and one I would heartily recommend to all my friends.

A great and informative book.
I have been searching for a book on Setter's for a while and this one is a great resource. Great for Setter owners, breeders, and lovers of the breed. Although it was last updated in 1984 (copy i purchased) it is full of good information. The book's sub-title pretty much sums it up. Would recommend adding it to your library.

A CLASSIC IN THIS GENRE
This book was first published in 1951 and has been updated periodically since.This is the 1982, forth edition being reviewed.The photos are in black and white but quite good.The book gives a good overview of the history of this particular breed, it's care, breeding, training, grooming all all inbetween.This is one of the most complete works addressing a single breed I know of.For those who love this particular breed, this is a book you should really own.Over the past twenty years, the breed standards have changes somewhat (showing), unfortunately, but this does not distract from this work at all.For the history of the breed alone, this work is well worth the money.Recommend this one highly. ... Fourth printing!
I am a contributor to this book and am gratified to know that it's still being read.My two stories sprung from moments when taking care of very ill patients that made the real and the surreal seem to change places for a moment.The realities of life can perhaps be better understood by examining moments of apparent incongruity.
One of the reasons I became a nurse was to get in closer contact with the nitty-gritty of human life.I got at least as much as I bargained for.

Disappointed
As a nurse, when I purchased this book, I thought I would find somebeautiful poetry about the profession of nursing and the art of caring. Instead, I found what I think may be the problem with nurses.As I readthis book, I am struck with what appears to be repressed hostility anddepression by these writers.Some of the poetry is morbid.And we wonderwhy there are nursing shortages?

Superb text for teaching creative approaches to caregiving.
Superb text for teaching creative approaches to caregiving through literature to nurses and other caregivers. I had the honor of using the book as a text book this past semester at Penn State University, Harrisburg, PA. The course explored the literature of nurses as well as traditional literature. The goal of this exploration was to redefine caring, to create new ways to teach preventive health care and nurturance, and to sensitively encourage caregivers to own their responsibility to intellectualize and write from their unique vantage point as observers of pain. Numerous and various clinical scenarios were available through the creative writing in BETWEEN THE HEARTBEATS and provided an opportunity to look at clinical situations with a refreshing perspective. My co-editor, Cortney Davis, and I have conducted many workshops but this was my first opportunity to use the book as a text for a three credit course. As might be guessed, I was personnally pleased that the book served so well as a text. Best wishes to any of you who may want to try it in your classroom.

Great(er than) Expectations
Absolutely the greatest book I've ever read.War and Peace, Great Expectations, Moby Dick - these tales merely lay the foundation for perhaps the greatest collection of words set upon parchment, "Reorganization of the House of Representatives; Background and History."Action, suspense, drama, romance (yes, romance), this literary gem provides it all.Mr. Davis' maiden attempt is not only insightful, it is absolutely riveting.The author presents a unique style that captivates the reader from page one to page six hundred and forty-three.It is, in a word, brilliant.

What Next, From the Maddening Modern Michelangelo?
Chris Davis, iron-handed political ward boss, nihilist philosopher, dot.com visionary and inventor, Peace Corps Volunteer, former CIA station chief, seminal figure in the Washington DC punk / straight edge music scene that spawned the Slickee Boys and Henry Rollins, union organizer, Sandanista mouthpiece, newspaperman and Las Vegas Casino Pit Boss, suprises even those who have followed his storied career with a scholarly work on the history of the U.S. House.It is, in turn, exciting, sad, whimisical, shocking, and exactly the type of masterpiece you would expect from this bigger than life cult figure.The only criticism is because of who he is, sometimes Davis himself cuts a larger figure than the Congress he is writing about.When reading his dispassionate treatment of the 1995 GOP takeover, a reader can't help but wonder if Davis thinks we don't know he himself was largely (if accidentally) responsible for the change.Still, it is well worth the $60 and leaves me asking, what next from this Maddening Modern Michelangelo??

Finally a book for baseball lovers and congress enthusiasts
While seeking respite from a exciting yet arduous baseball post-season I decided to turn to my second favorite past-time: Congressional history.Much to my delight I came across this elegantly titled monograph.After reading the first page, Evelyn Wood herself could not have read this work of literature quickly enough.The authors introduce the reader to the mysterious inner-workings of the House of Representatives.I was especially fascinated with the authors' ability to use baseball metaphors to make complex materials more understandable to the layperson.I never realized how many characteristics some former House Speakers and George Steinbrenner share.Scheider possesses remarkable intuition and while describing institutional turmoil seems to predict the recent demise of the New York Yankee organization which has now extended into the off-season.

This book is a rare find and I want to thank Nova Publishing for their tireless work at printing and binding literature that can only otherwise be obtained for free by contacting your Senator or Representative.The exquisite binding absent in the free version looks much better on your bookshelf. ...
