5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic cookbook
Delivery on this product was timely the book itself is an incredible collection of reciepes. I had one from the original issue which I have used thousands of times. This one was purchased for my son because he asked for so many reciepes from my book that it was simpler to get him his own. The secrets to several home cooked italian favorites are in this book. For instance the one ingredient that makes sausage and peppers taste italian and just right.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's all good!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mama Mia!
Glad I ordered this--some good recipes! My daughter, who's married to an Italian family, has it also. Ciao!

2-0 out of 5 stars Again?
'Again' means half the recipes are the same as in the first 'Eat This...' cookbook. Disappointed since I loved the first one.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
LOVE THIS BOOK.... ALSO BOUGHT ONE FOR A 'COOKIN' FRIEND, WHO ALSO THOUGHT IT WAS TERRIFIC...AM ANXIOUS TO TRY 'ALL' OF THE RECIPES... A FUN BOOK....BY A FUNNY GUY..

5-0 out of 5 stars eat this again
Great book, but you must know that it is a reissue of "Eat This" under a new title.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is awesome!
I was so happy to see that they were bringing this book back again, I had tried to buy it for a friend years ago and couldn't believe it was out of print.

Dom's cookbook has the best Italian/American recipes...many from food his mother cooked at home...family favorites are Eggplant Stuffed Peppers, and the meatballs my husband swears are the best he's ever had (and may be the only reason he stays married to me).

You cannot go wrong with this book.Dom's stories are entertaining and funny, like when he says his mother always wore her hair up in a bun and he was sure she had meatballs in it - lol.I do not think that it is offensive in any way as the last review stated...it's too bad she didn't keep the book and cook some of the awesome recipes!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THIS VERSION IS JUST AS GOOD AS THE FIRST
Although there are many repeats from the first book, and although the first book is fabulous, this version is more precise in some ways. For example, instead of just giving the recipe for pizza dough like the first version, this version also includes the cooking time and temperature requirements...a very important addition!

3-0 out of 5 stars Too Many Repeats, But a Good Substitute for the Original.
Dom DeLouise's first cookbook -- Eat This, It Will Make You Feel Better -- was a huge hit in my Italian family. Each of the women in the family owned a copy, and it is the one cookbook I absolutely HAD to have when I moved out on my own. There are a ton of great, easy and relatively healthy recipes in the first, along with several very funny anecdotes and tons of photos. The first book is still, hands down, my favorite cookbook.

Unfortunately, Mr. DeLouise's second cookbook is not as great as the first. For one thing, several of the recipies from the first book are reproduced here, sometimes with slight differences, and sometimes exactly the same as in the original, right down to the photos and anecdotes that accompany them.As much as I love dishes such as Lucy's Pasta and Escarole and Beans, I did not need to buy the recipes twice. Moreover, where the anecdotes in the first book were entertaining tales of the people Mr. DeLouise loves to cook with, followed by favorite recipies from that person, the anecdotes in the second book often have nothing to do with the recipes. The tributes to Barbra Streisand [sp?] and Jason Priestly are particularly out of place.

Nevertheless, the second book, like the first, contains many wonderful recipes, most of which require a minimum of skill and virtually no "exotic" ingredients. The best thing about the recipies, to me, is that many are for dishes I grew up eating, but somehow never learned to make. The Eat This books are like having a grandma in the kitchen, showing you how to make traditional favorites.

Bottom line, If you have access to the original book, buy it and skip the sequel. If, however, you cannot find the original, than this book is a good substitute, particularly if you want good, basic, inexpensive, healthy and DELICIOUS meals.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good cookbook.
This is a very good cookbook, but I think I like the first one better."Eat This!" the original, was more practical and is one cookbook I have used more than any other I own.Dom does have quite a habit of hampering his cookbooks with more than a little name-dropping.(i.e. You hear of all the stars who have eaten his food, but you rarely find out what they liked about it.)But the two "Eat This!" books are well worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost As Good As The First One
This second "Eat This" book is nearly as good as the first: lots of great recipes, fun family stuff, etc. Here we have more bread recipes and finally some good pizza and calzone recipes. There does seem to be more emphasis on dead animal and in a misguided effort to keep fat calories down he uses margarine (a synthetic and dangerous substance that has the same amount of fat as butter, but increases cancer risk) instead of butter. With these few exceptions, I can recommend this book with nearly as much enthusiasm as the first one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Cookbook for Everyone
Dom DeLuise has some great recipes and some good hints for all cooks--even novices. His recipes are tasty and not too difficult to make. I learned how to make my first omelet from reading his book. Because I do not likeadding oil to any recipe, I was happy to see that he noted that applesaucecould be substituted foroil in the Zucchini Bread recipe. He has dozensof great recipes for everything from breads to pastas to desserts.I havehad this book since it was first published and I can tell you that it iswell worth the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A childhood favorite
My all-time favorite childhood favorite.Every night, my mother and father would read this book to my brother and me (by request!)Twenty-five years later, I'm still taken back to those quiet evenings every time I read it.I hope to read it to my children one day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Little Ones!!
My children ages 2 and 4 love this book.It is a cute story about a catapillar exploring his new world, but finding out others aren't always nice. Curtis then becomes a beautiful butterfly and everyone wants to be his friend. The story teaches kids about being nice to someone no matter what they appear to be on the outside, but in a very simplistic way.We read it every night before bed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite in my house
My kids are now too old for Charlie the Catepillar. But when they were between the ages of 4 and 6, it was an absolute favorite and I read it practically every night!I recently gave away a bunch of old children's books.I couldn't part with Charlie. This is the sign of a special book.I hung onto it, along with Goodnight, Moon, The Giving Tree and The Velveteen Rabbit.I don't know if it's in that category of a "classic."But it is definitely special.A fun book with great illustrations anda good lesson. My kids had it memorized."Giddadda here!"

1-0 out of 5 stars Not so cute
I was not impressed when I received this book from the the book club at our preschool.I think the message that no one wants to play with you if you are ugly, and then when you are beautiful you can go back and snub them is a terrible one. With the many issues our children face today - inappropriate role models in the media, anorexia, teenagers having plastic surgery - this message just reinforces those same ideas "I must be beautiful to be popular." I don't know why publishers feel they have to publish books by celebrities who are obviously not children's authors.I threw away all the copies of this book that we received.I would not recommend it to anyone, except as a lesson in why editors need to focus on what is good for children, not what celebrity names might sell books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charlie the Caterpiller
Excellent book for preschoolers and older. After being born, Charlie sets off to see the world. He meets monkeys, rabbits, and mice but all refuse to play with him because he is an ugly caterpiller. When Charlie becomes a beautiful butterfly, they all want to be his friend. Charlie saw Roslie, the caterpiller, crying because she couldn't find a friend. He tells her what is going to happen and they become friends. Story learning tools: Charlie looks to the left/right and goes straight ahead, when he builds his cocoon, and when animals tell him to "giddadda here". Children learn directions, movement, and participation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars smash hit in our household
This is a book our 3 1/2 year old asks for over and over and over again. But because of the very funny and inventive pictures, the modern twists and slyly comedic text, it's an interesting book for adults too. Glut Annie Stout has become an established part of our family vocabulary as well as "I don't THINK so!!!" as said by a firmly admonishing yet loving parent. Wonderful, fun way to teach kids about the pitfalls of eating too many sweets.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Picture Book
This is one of my daughter's favorite books, mostly because of the great pictures. They are so colorful and interesting. The story is the one we all know but with an interesting, healthy ending.I definitely recommend this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars A great adventurous fairy tale!
If you like to read fairy tales that are kind of scary and adventurous this is the book that you have got to read.Hansel & Gretel find this amazing house and then they go inside and meet this very nice old lady, but Hansel & Gretel don't know what they are in for.So to find out what happens you have just have to read this book.If you also like to read fairy tales that have alot of pictures and go into detail then this is the book that you are looking for. ... Product Description

Do Clothes Really Make the Man?

King Discombobulated (Bob for short) has his priorities all mixed up. He loves new clothes more than anything in his kingdom. Yet his clothes are so silly that his royal subjects can hardly avoid laughing at their king. One day a pair of smooth-talking tailors shows up in town. They promise to make the king a suit of magical cloth that can only be seen by the pure of heart. The king is thrilled! But when he parades through town wearing nothing but his magic threads, will anyone have the courage to tell the king the naked truth?

Dom DeLuise retells a children's classic with wit and humor, then follows his story with a special surprise -- recipes fit for a king! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
After reading De Luise's other book Hansel and Gretel, which my 5 year old completely loved, I got this one for her too but I was disappointed. It seems to be making fun of the king for loving clothes and playing dress-up. Plus the clever narrative style didn't go over as well as with the Hansel and Gretel story.

Bottom line, I haven't even shared this one with my daughter.

5-0 out of 5 stars In a Naked World
Oh it was odd to learn from Dick Van Dyke in a mother's day concert in Thousand Oaks that Dom DeLuise has passed on. He added at the closing curtain that he had just been to the memorial. That the comedian tasked us to find in the moment the joy of living. A redress of the show must go on.
I'd just been thinking of trying to find my copy of this story.

Clever word play it leads you through the tale of what the king might learn by that naked stroll through his vanities.
Reminding me that one function of these tales is gathering an insight without shedding the actually outfit in the public square. DeLuise wrote several cute kid's books.

A touching way I learned he's gone to his rest, leaving a book that's pretty good at teaching us to be a tad more "other" aware. Loved the ending.
Good read aloud.

5-0 out of 5 stars King Bob's New Clothes
Our children ranging in age from ages 9-5 laughed and laughed at this book! The illustrations are phenominal. The story is down to earth and funny.I am looking at buying all of Dom's books because this one is so enjoyable- with a moral at the end.A delight for children and adults!

4-0 out of 5 stars A story to delight

5-0 out of 5 stars A new twist on Goldilocks
I am so thrilled to finally have this book since it is out of print. I first found it at a local specialty library and I use it to teach manners. First I read the kids the original version of Goldilocks and then this book. What a great teaching tool and a fabulous story.I then have the kids make teddy bear jewelry or teddy bears out of clay so they can remember the story and I ask them to tell me what is different about this version of Goldilocks and how she did get her manners.
Thanks so much.

3-0 out of 5 stars keep looking
This is a harmless version of Goldilocks with humor that is aimed more at the adult reader than a young child. There are better versions of the story out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, Italian flair to an old story.
