Product Description
After three long weeks of wondering if the police were going to figure out what really happened in her hotel room, Johnnie leaves Jackson, Mississippi without being questioned. When she sees Paul Masterson, the preacher who helped her when she thought her life was over, standing on the landing of the train depot in Providence, Rhode Island, she thought she had found sanctuary, a place where she could cease from worry. She was planning to escape whatever trumped up charges an eager prosecutor might bring against her by traveling the world until no one in America cared who she was or what she had done. But what she didn't know was that she had a new nemesis; one that was fully committed to her complete and utter destruction. Not only did her new revival have motivation that was both personal and immutable, her new enemy had unlimited finances and was more than willing to scour the earth to deliver without mercy the justice that fury demanded. How will Johnnie survive this new threat from a familiar family with a score to settle? ... Read more

Both detectives have designs on Francine Darden, a beautiful and sultry office worker living beyond her means, and romantically involved with a married congressman.
Set in Chicago in the Presidential election year of 1988, Ellis and Royce find them-selves caught up in a web of murder,

4-0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Private Eye Novel
88 WAYS TO DIE by Johnnie Mitchell: Interesting PI tale self-published by the author earlier this year. Black PI Ellis Mason is a small businessman in Chicago in 1988 who gets caught up in a murder case when the girlfriend of his client is killed. As he is pulled deeper and deeper into the matter he hooks up with Brad Royce, a big time agency owner who numbers among his clients a congressional candidate looking for dirt on a rival. It is Chicago, after all, so, its not surprising that Mason and Royce are soon swimming upstream in a river of murder, greed, and political corruption. As with many self- published efforts, this book could have benefited from some tighter editing, more street time and less "bed time." I hope Mr. Mitchell does well enough to produce some more, as Mason could potentially be Chicago's answer to LA's Eazy Rawlins.

3-0 out of 5 stars Politics and Blackmail
An ex-con, two detectives-different agencies, two women working for
a brokerage firm, an international finance mogul, a local politician
and a campaign manager; were somehow connected.A determination of
how, will give the solution to the mystery 88 WAYS TO DIE.

The ex-con hires detective Ellis Mason to keep tabs on his girlfriend.
The Congressional candidate hires detective Brad Royce to find dirt on
a political rival; which involves tailing the rival's girlfriend. The

detective's paths cross when the women they are following are both
murdered. The ex-con is arrested for killing his girlfriend and the
other woman's death is charged to a drive by shooting. But the police
believe because the women knew each other, the killings are related.
Now that addresses the ex-con, thedetectives, and the women at the
brokerage. But that is only the tip of the iceberg, what roles do
the campaign manager and the international mogul play in this puzzle?

That is what the dectectives have to find out.

88 Ways To Dieis an intriguing story set in Chicago during the
Presidential Election of 1988.Where everyone seemed to be caught in
a web of murder, dirty politics, shady deals and high profile women.
The intrigue however was over shadowed for me because there were too
many names to remember, too many secondary characters and not a clear
picture of who the primary characters were.I would love to have been
able to focus my attention on 'whodunit', instead my focus was on who
the players were.I do suggest you pick up a copy and figure this one
out for yourself.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Fast Read
Set in Chicago during the presidential election of 1988, Johnnie Mitchell's debut
mystery, 88 WAYS TO DIE, introduces African-American private detective, Ellis
Mason. Ellis is hired by ex-con Armad Drew for a simple case--following Armad's
girfriend, Donna Beck, who he suspects is cheating on him. But the case quickly
becomes complicated when Donna is murdered and Armad is arrested for the crime.
When Armad begs Ellis to help him, Ellis reluctantly agrees not knowing what he's
getting himself into. Ellis discovers that Donna's murder is only the tip of the iceberg
and after one of his own employees is murdered, soon find himself teamed up with
Brad Royce, another PI who happens to be working for a congressional candidate. Both
men find themselves attracted to Francine Darden, a beautiful co-worker of Donna
Beck's who has secrets of her own and is the link between both men's cases. Ellis and
Brad find themselves up to their necks in murder, blackmail, corruption, and politics
and must find their way out before they're the next victim's.

Johnnie Mitchell tells a good story and introduces a strong character in Ellis Mason.
The book would have been greatly enhanced by editing as the typos proved to be a bit
of a distraction. At 162 pages, I would have liked for the book to have been a little
longer. Otherwise, I look forward to reading more of Ellis Mason's adventures and will
be curious to see if he teams up with Brad Royce next time around. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Quick Read With An Interesting Plot
Evelyn divorced her retired pro-football player husband when she could no longer deal with his lying and cheating ways. As for their pre-nuptial agreement, the judge ruled in Evelyn's favor due to his treatment of her during their marriage. As a way to "help" other women get back at their cheating husbands, Evelyn decides to open an escort business. But, while she is plotting revenge somehow love happens.

This book rated a 3 for a number of reasons.First, the author could have developed the storyline more. I should have been more of a back story on the relationship between Andrew and his father. Next there were a quiet a few typographical errors. This book was in need of some major editing. And, the last but not least the cover art was just lacking. It looked very basic, dull and did not convey what the story was about. Overall, this was a quick read with a plot that will keep the reader interested.

This book was very well put together. The story had a different twist

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Story
After years of his cheating and abuse, Evelyn divorces her retired pro-football player husband. Taking the real estate with her. She decides that she will help other women get back at their husbands by opening an escort business. This new life Evelyn designs for herself isn't all it is cracked up to be. A fast read.
I enjoyed this novel.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Creative Storyline
After more than 20 years of marriage, Evelyn is finally divorced from her abusive retired football player husband. Instead of enjoying what she acquired from her settlement, Evelyn comes up with devious plan. She decides to start a male escort service to help her best friends get revenge on their philandering husbands by allowing them to cheat as well. But there is one catch: The women will be using their husband's money. Evelyn recruits and trains a young and sexy man named Andrew to be her first escort. Andrew didn't have a lot of confidence when it came to women until Evelyn taught him tools of the trade. Soon Andrew is swept away into a life of fine clothing and more money than he could imagine. When a potential girlfriend comes into the picture, Andrew wonders if he really wants to continue the life of an escort.

Madam Eve is an interesting and daring novel by Eddrick Dejuan. Dejuan brought a creative storyline by having Evelyn start an escort business. You can almost see the wheels turning in Evelyn's head as she devises this plan. You also feel the confusion of Andrew as he is thrown into this lifestyle. This novel would have been a lot better if Evelyn didn't start the escort business so abruptly. It also would have been nice if there was more character development with Andrew. There could have been a stronger secondary storyline with Andrew and his father. Madam Eve is still a good story for those who are looking for something a little different.

3-0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 3.5) Bittersweet Revenge
MADAM EVE by Eddrick Dejuan tells the story of recently divorced Evelyn Robinson as she embarks on her journey to empower herself and help her friends get revenge on their philandering husbands. After twenty years of dealing with the control, cheating, and abuse of her retired football player husband, Evelyn has mustered the courage to walk away. And thanks to the prenup, she is able to do so and gain all of the real estate acquired during their marriage. Armed with multiple homes and hotels across the nation, she embarks on a plan to start her own escort service. As she molds Andrew, her naive male escort, to please her friends, Evelyn finds he is a stark contrast to her ex-husband and ends up falling for him.

Andrew is a twenty-three-year-old valet who works at Evelyn's Atlanta hotel.Unlucky when it comes to women, Andrew is shocked when the opportunity to be a male escort presents itself.Weighing the pros and cons of accepting the offer, he takes the job and watches his ego and debt skyrocket along with his bank account. When a childhood friend moves back in town, Andrew will have to regain control of his life before he is no longer able to recognize his own reflection.

Eddrick Dejuan hooks his reader to the storyline of MADAM EVE from the very beginning of the novel as Evelyn's divorce is finalized. However, one might find Evelyn's nonchalant attitude in discussing her illegal business plan slightly unrealistic. In addition, character descriptions that read like notes on an index card and verb tense changes may be somewhat distracting for the reader. Nonetheless, MADAM EVE is a quick read that entertains the reader with a story of revenge, reinvention, and romance.

2-0 out of 5 stars I want my money back...
As I look at all the positive reviews for this book, I find myself wondering, "Did I read the same book?" Perhaps I received an unedited version? I will admit that I am a bit of a literary snob, but there is no way that this book should receive more than 2 stars. While this is Mr. Clark's debut novel (and I do applaud the efforts of someone who tries to put forth something new), there is no excuse for the poor grammar, switching between first and third person, and overall lack of editing. It was honestly enough to make you want to put the book down and give up!! Mr. Clark, don't you have any friends who could have proofread this for you?? At the very least, read your next book out loud and make sure it makes sense... This may sound harsh, but when I spend money on a book I expect it to reach certain standards. As far as the actual plot, it was very predictable. There was no climax because Mr. Clark revealed all of his plot turns very early on in the novel. Again, I don't want to be too harsh, but you're really not that slick...sorry. I gave the novel 2 stars (instead of the 1 star that my gut instinct is screaming for), because I felt that the character "Sista" had depth and overall was very well developed. However, the remaining characters fell flat... As far as the ending-- I'm still upset. I sat up in bed and started yelling, "HOW DARE YOU RASHEED! YOU BETTER NOT PULL THAT DREAM SEQUENCE CRAP!!"

In the end, I wish Mr. Clark well. I recommend he take the following actions:
1. Hire an editor, seriously! It will be money well spent (I promise...)
2. Don't ever think about writing, "Did she really die or was I just dreaming the whole thing? If she wasn't truly dead, answer me this, where was she now..." NO, you answer me this, do you respect your readers?? If so, don't ever do this...
3. Consider turning this into a screenplay-- while there were a lot of plot holes and a lack of continuity as a novel, I imagine (with a little work) it could be turned into a decent movie or mini-series.
4. Do not compare yourself to Terry McMillan (at least not based on this novel)-- it's disrespectful to Ms. McMillan and your readers.
5. Please email me if you would like to refund my money...thanks!!

3-0 out of 5 stars God Will Understand...Close Friends and Family Might
I'm on the late freight with this read.Didn't know Mr. Clark or this book existed until I joined FaceBook.Looking for new writers to read I stumbled upon this book with its powerful message. Its not how many friends you have, its the kind of friends that count. Two or three good ones that can keep you in check are worth more than 10 casual ones. The support of family is what helps us through tough times. This book of friends and family had regular everyday problems and secrets that Joe Blow or anybody you know might have but with the support and love of their friends and family they made it.

Mr. Clark took us through ups and downs of people just trying to live life.He brought Anger...Happiness...Laughter...Sadness out of me as read this.Just wanted to let Mr. Clark know he did a good job.Looking forward to more of his work.

3.25-3.50stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars secrets to be told
when i first saw this book on a online booksite i just had to get it and read and im glad i did it had so much drama in it and the storyline was great the way this author was able to bring these four freinds story to life and way he just didnt write another urban fiction novel the book deals with a lot of real life issues like the author said we all know someone like one of his characters the way this author let you feel the pain and hurt and some joya page-turner just sorry i wait so long to read now im waiting for the sequel

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Enjoyed It! - Wifey to Dwayne Murray's The Mouse That Roared
I read you book Mr. Clark and I really enjoyed it. What else can I add? The book made me laugh out loud while simultaneously it pulled at my heart strings. Good luck to you and I will definitely read your upcoming books!

3-0 out of 5 stars Even Then I Won't Say It Out Loud
Author Rasheed Clark did a good job merging the lives of Sista, a young lady dealing with self-esteem issues because of her weight; her sister Loretta who married a good guy, but disrespects him; their brother Eric, the one who cou ld not stay out of jail, and Brian, who was afraid to open his heart to receive love. Add to them Nikki, good friend of the family and Day (who was dealing with some family problems of his own), who are best friends with Sista and Nikki.

Stories I Wouldn't Tell Nobody but God opens with Sista dealing with her issues, the decisions she has made and the regrets she has to keep her company. While trying to come to terms with who she is, Sista's father passes away; she has a few bad relationships and she has to deal with her wayward sister and her youngest brother's indiscretions.By book's end, everyone who was a part of Sista's life revealed some secrets of their own which helped her to realize that help is as close as you sharing your problems or issues, even the ones you do not want anyone privy to but God.Coming to terms with problems and dealing with them is the real road to healing.

I found myself turning pages to find out what would happen next. The book is simply about the things we sometimes deal with in life with family and friends and the crazy things we do, but through it all we can find peace and happiness, even in the worst situations. I am actually looking forward to reading the sequel to this book. The author provided a sample chapter at the end of the book and it starts off so good, I was disappointed there was only a sample of what is to come.

This review has been revised as of 2/20/07 and the rating is actually four stars.
