5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!
I've always liked Fran Drescher a lot; she's naturally funny and larger-than life. This audio book memoir, read by the author herself, plays like a great stand-up comedy routine.Written in 1995, at the height of her show's success, it's a chatty, friendly, and hilarious autobiography with a gag in just about every sentence.

With her irrepressible voice, Fran takes obvious delight in describing her humble Queens roots, her marriage, her early days in show biz, and the unbelievable coincidence that led to "The Nanny" becoming a reality. While she talks about television executives and her production crew in detail, there isn't a word about Charles Shaughnessy or her other TV co-stars.This was disappointing, but I still loved every minute of it and will certainly play it again just to enjoy her exuberant personality and wit.

Though Fran has endured tragedy in her life, there is nothing mentioned in the audio book about the sad times, only the good times and there have been many.I highly recommend this audio book to Fran's fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enter Whining Review
This book is a very insightful look into the early years of Fran Drescher right up to her hit TV series "The Nanny". There are plenty of pictures from her childhood to the funny Fran Fine she portrayed as The Nanny. She discusses the good times and the bad. Once you start reading "Enter Whining",it will be hard to put the book down. I recommend this book highly with two thumbs up!

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY WORTH EVERY PENNY!

3-0 out of 5 stars Enter Whining [Audio Cassette]
Though I would've liked it better if the audio were in CDs but nontheless it was quite good and clear and in Fran's voice which make it much better. What I didn't like was the cover!! it isn't like the one in the picture, and it looks so dirty and used. ... Read more

    Product Description
Part inspirational cancer-survival story, part memoir-as-laugh-riot, CANCER SCHMANCER picks up where Fran's last book, Enter Whining, left off. After the publication of that book, Fran's life launched into a downward spiral. She separated from a long and complicated relationship, her TV series started to slip in the ratings, and her beloved dog Chester Drescher's health was in major decline. Then came the mysterious symptoms no doctor could adequately explain. With her trademark humor, Fran tells of her indefatigable search for answers and the cancer diagnosis that she ultimately beat. But not before a gold mine of humorous insights were revealed to her about what really matters most in life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A brave and empowering story
Sitcom star Fran Drescher has written a heart-felt book about her experience with uterine cancer from her first suspicions that something was wrong, through the tests and the waiting, and finally the terrifying diagnosis and life-saving treatment.

On the audio book, her distinctive voice reveals the horror of it all, punctuated often by her unique dry humor. Her story is candid and above all, informative and helpful. She had to go to nine doctors before she was properly diagnosed and she encourages her readers to trust their insticts and demand answers so necessary treatment can be done in time.

The audio book is only three hours long and is thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring. While cancer is the central theme, she also discusses her readjustment to single life after her long marriage and the loving support she received from family and friends. Heartily recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I read this book on a whim and then I couldn't put it down.I love her and I love her writing style.Fran, you should definitely write more books.Fiction, non-fiction....just start writing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fran Drescher is Unbelievably Brave
First off the book was in excellent condition and I recieved it very quickly. The book it's self was wonderful, it tells you how Fran Drescher had to go through 2 1/2 years of painful and scary symptoms and 8 doctors before she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. When finally diagnosed, she fought and beat uterine cancer but not before having to get a full hysterectomy. She tells how she goes on today to be a woman's cancer advocate to teach women to listen to their bodies and get tested, because early detection is the key to fighting it. She was so truthful about her experiences and so entertaining, I couldn't put the book down and finished in a day and a half. Which is really fast for me considering I have 3 boys to take care of all day. Any available second I got I was reading it. When I finished it I felt more educated about woman's cancer, amazed at what she had went through and sad that she doesn't have a 3rd book for me to read. I would recommend this book to all my friends and have already started passing it around to family members and they loved it too.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Never be passive when it comes to your health."
I've never had cancer, but, just before age 22, I developed a rare illness - minocycline-induced pseudotumor cerebri. It lasted for several months and I have never felt worse. The symptoms were hard to describe and I didn't always appear (visibly) to be ill. It was a very difficult time for me.

It was caused by a medicine prescribed by my dermatologist. It was supposed to clear up my skin. I was NOT supposed to make me sick. In fact, the doctor didn't even mention that there were ANY possible "side effects." He was the doctor. I was just 21 and wanted clear skin. - It was inconceivable to me that a medicine for something so simple could possibly be dangerous.

I later learned, through my own research, that I was predisposed to be more likely to be affected by it due to my weight and other factors. (While I did weigh more than my ideal weight, I was not obese.)

This book gives an interesting perspective and makes me more determined than ever to take charge of my health and be my own advocate. Kudos to Fran for sharing what she learned and making us all more aware.

    Product Description

"Since when is Fran Drescher Jewish?" This was Chiara Francesca Ferrari's reaction when she learned that Drescher's character on the television sitcom The Nanny was meant to be a portrayal of a stereotypical Jewish-American princess. Ferrari had only seen the Italian version of the show, in which the protagonist was dubbed into an exotic, eccentric Italian-American nanny. Since When Is Fran Drescher Jewish? explores this "ventriloquism" as not only a textual and cultural transfer between languages but also as an industrial practice that helps the media industry foster identification among varying audiences around the globe.

At the heart of this study is an in-depth exploration of three shows that moved from global to local, mapping stereotypes from both sides of the Atlantic in the process. Presented in Italy, for example, Groundskeeper Willie from The Simpsons is no longer a belligerent, alcoholic Scotsman but instead easily becomes a primitive figure from Sardinia. Ironically, The Sopranos--a show built around Italian-Americans--was carefully re-positioned by Italian TV executives, who erased the word "mafia" and all regional references to Sicily. The result of Ferrari's three case studies is evidence that "otherness" transcends translation, as the stereotypes produced by the American entertainment industry are simply replaced by other stereotypes in foreign markets. As American television studios continue to attempt to increase earnings by licensing their shows abroad, Since When Is Fran Drescher Jewish? illuminates the significant issues of identity raised by this ever-growing marketplace, along with the intriguing messages that lie in the larger realm of audiovisual cultural exchange.

What does music have in common with cancer? Plenty. Dr. Nagarsheth explains how music, particularly his percussion instruments. Besides being an oncologist, he is a musician. It's easy to relate to the way he compares his knowledge of both of his expertise. As a two-time cancer survivor with my own recipe for healing, I can tell you that music soothed my soul when I was going through cancer. I also purchased the music CD by N.E.D. the band and you can see how he practices what he preaches. ... Read more
