Jimmy Durante was a vaudeville star who performed in night clubs, and a movie star. He was never investigated by the FBI, but he was mentioned in files on other individuals. Durante flew from Los Angeles, California to San Antonio, Texas to entertain a group of State Attorneys General at their National Association of Attorneys General meeting on June 30, 1965. He came at the request of Louisiana State Attorney General, Jack P.F. Gremillion and his chief of staff, Investigator Frank Manning. Durante had known Manning for more than 25 years. Durante's home was burglarized on several different occasions. The thieves made off with about $20,000.00 in jewelry and furs on each occasion. Mr. Durante was on the Special Correspondents' list and was on a first name basis with Director Hoover.

Durante was born in 1893, on the lower east side of New York where he learned to play the piano at a very young age.When he was just 17, he worked on the Old Coney Island restaurant owned by Terry Walsh. Here, he played the piano while Eddie Cantor sang. After a few years at the restaurant, Durante and a couple of friends teamed up and opened Club Durante in 1923. Even though the Club thrived, they were shut down by prohibition agents.Not discouraged, Durante landed on Broadway. After having his name on the Marquee for 11 years, Durante was contacted by the creators of Eddie Cantor's Chase and Sanborn Hour, in order to replace Eddie Cantor.
