Product Description
Without the Keys, something terrible will happen.
Something that cannot be undone.
And with them, I might bring an end to the riddle of the Prophecy and my strange part in it.

If Alice and I are on conflicting sides of the Prophecy,
the Keys would be dangerous in her hands.
Which means I have to find them.
And I have to do it before my sister.

Sixteen year-old Lia Milthorpe has just recently lost her father, leaving her parentless. But when a strange mark appears on her wrist, she realizes she is being branded with much more than her newfound title of orphan.Lia and her twin sister Alice are part of an ancient prophecy that has turned generations of sisters against each other.

Lia hides this discovery from Alice and even from her beloved James, but to escape from the burden this secret bestows she must end the prophecy-before her sister.Only then will she understand the mysterious circumstances of her parents' deaths, the true meaning of the mark on her wrist, the lengths to which her sister will go to defeat her, and the impact the resolution of the prophecy could have.

With, haunting, lyrical prose, this multi-layered story of family, friendship, and romance explores the timeless question of predetermination versus free will. And it takes readers on an unforgettable coming-of-age journey where one sister's self-discovery could have an impact of Biblical proportion.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of My Time
I wanted to like this book because of the good reviews. It started out intriguing with her fathers death but then spaced off. I basically thought the book would be action packed and mysterious but half way through it was apparent no action would be provided. Also by the midpoint I could already tell what was going to happen. This book only deals with the information behind the prophecy which I found profusely boring. Basically a waste of my time. I didnt even finish it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't have to be a prophet to figure out what happens next in the book but still a good book
The book starts with a death and ends with a death. Alice, Lia and Henry attend their fathers funeral. After the funeral Lia notices a circle marked into her wrist and as the days go by the mark gets darker and darker. Lia learns that two other girls, Sonia and Luisa from town have the same mark as her but it isn't a coincidence that they are all there in the small town. As Lia unravels the truth behind the mark she also learns not to trust her sister.

I like this book it was a little dull at the beginning but it picked up at the end. It was very easy to see through the storyline and figure out what was going to happen. Like who is the guardian and who is the gate or what the keys were. That kind of bothered me because I like to be in suspense. This book didn't do it for me because I was able to guess earlier on.

3-0 out of 5 stars Delicious Premise
Rating: 3.5 out of 5

I was excited when I picked up this book from the library because it had been on my Wishlist for some time. I was instantly drawn to the World of Lia and Alice in Birchwood. When the book opens, 16 year old twins Lia and Alice and 10 yr old Henry are at their fathers funeral. Their father dies a strange and sudden death leaving them in the care of their Aunt Virginia.

Soon Lia sees a mark on her wrist, a circle with a snake coiling around it and she struggles to make sense of it. Then she learns of an old prophecy, a prophecy that places 2 sisters on the opposite sides, one evil and the other good. She realizes that there is something sinister at work and that this time she and her sister Alice are at the opposite sides.

I loved the story, I loved the idea of 2 sisters against each other and I loved the Gothic atmosphere in Prophecy of the Sisters. I was engrossed in the book for the first 200 pages and could not put it down. But...yes, I'm sad there is a but, the story got too complicated at times. Lia is trying to understand the prophecy and her place in it for almost the entire book. I was waiting for the action to start, but that was not to happen in this book.

Because most of you know by now, there is a sequel to the book called `The Guardian of the Gate'. I was hoping there would be some conclusion, or at least a part of action that would be over and done with in this book. Alas, that was not to be. It just worries me that I will forget a lot from this book before I can get hold of the next one. The book is from Lia's point of view. The other characters interested me more than Lia. I would have loved to have a first person account from Alice and possibly a little from Henry. Those were the characters I found most interesting.

Nonetheless I would definitely recommend this book to YA and fantasy lovers and begin stalking the library for the second book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lives up to the Hype (mostly)
It took me awhile to read this book--there were many glowing reviews out there and I figured I would wait a bit before jumping in and checking it out. In the end, I am definitely glad I read it, but I have to admit it was slow going for me for about the first 100 pages--I had a difficult time getting drawn into the story initially.

The writing is great--as some of you may know from past reviews, I am not usually fond of the first person present tense in many books I read. The phrasing can feel awkward at times, in my opinion. Not so with this book! It was so well-written that I didn't even notice the point of view and tense for most of the book, which was a pleasant surprise. I also enjoyed the late 19th-century setting and felt that Zink did justice to the language and customs of the time.

Ultimately what I really appreciated about this book was the refreshing premise--this story is different from so much of the paranormal young adult fiction out right now. I also really appreciate the fact that the synopsis doesn't give too much away--that really adds to the enjoyment of the story, in my opinion. Once I was able to really be drawn into the plot and the characters I didn't want to put the book down. And silly me--somehow, even with all of the reviews out there, I didn't realize this was going to be a trilogy going into the book, and now that I've finished it I wish I had the second book close at hand! I am hoping that there will be further character development of some of the secondary main characters in the coming books. I feel that there was so much focus on the sisters, Lia and Alice, that some of the other important characters were left out in the cold.

The final verdict: Prophecy of the Sisters was definitely worth the read and, for me, mostly lived up to all the hype and great reviews out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really good with a strong story line...
I really liked this book and thought that the story line was strong. I liked the fact that this book takes place in the 1890's--you know, back when ettiquette was important and meaningful--and that the twins are turned against each other. The prophecy was strong and if you know anything about basic Christianity then you will easily fall deeply into this book.

What I didn't like was the style in which the book was written (i.e. I walk down the street as I ponder the day's events, or, Her breath is hot on the back of my neck and I turn to confront her). I just can't stand it when the narrator says what they are doing when they are doing it. I much rather read a book that is narrated as if the narrator is telling you the story (i.e. I walked down the street as I pondered the day's events, or, Her breath was hot on the back of my neck and I turned to confront her). But then again, it is my perrogative and you are entitled to you're own. Also, I didn't like how the book really resembled the Blue Bloods novels, with the Christianity twist to the prophecy.

Would I reccomend this book? Oh, most definitely. This book is such a treat and I really enjoyed the outcome of it. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series. So, make your own decision, but I can guarentee that this will be one of the best books that you will ever read.

Enjoy!!! ... Read more

I purchased this, of course, for the Dushku pictorial. The photography is decent, but, not being familiar with the magazine, I was disappointed with how thin the pages were, and how susceptible to creasing and wrinkling they are.Finding the pictures online and printing on photo (or other high-quality) paper is superior. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good then flat
I couldn't put this book down since the suspense was gripping. Then the story just kind of ended, nothing realistic about the ending at all. Felt like the author was rushed by her publisher and just wrote something. Good to begin and half way thru, then nothing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Like an artist whose songs all sound alike
I loved The Devil Wears Prada, however, I didn't want to read it again under a different title. I was hugely disappointed in the lack of originality of this book. It won't make me give up on Miss Weisberger, but my expectations will be lower.

4-0 out of 5 stars Light and fluffy
Bette Robinson quits her banking job one day since after 5 years she finds it just isn't doing a thing for her life.Thankfully, she has an uncle who finds her a job very quickly in the event planning business (translate party until you drop planning) and this job becomes an embarrassment to her and to her family.

However, the party planning job helps her to find what she really wants to do in her life.I enjoyed the story and the crazy event planning business that launches Bette as a new and rising event planning star.

I was looking for some light and entertaining reading after having read a couple of not so good books and so this book filled the bill.

Bette decides what she wants to do with her life and also finds romance.I enjoyed it for what it was chick-lit lite. This will keep you turning the pages and also gives you insight into the world of PR and event planning and some of the shallowness of the celebrity culture today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brain Candy, indeed!
I absolutely loved this book.I couldn't put it down... I even sat in my car for 45 minutes after work one day, just because I couldn't wait until I got home to read more! The amount of negative reviews really surprised me.I've never written a review for anything, but I enjoyed this book so thoroughly that I just had to share my opinion on it.

I just finished "Everyone Worth Knowing" for the second time, having read it once when it first appeared on shelves.I love it just as much now as I did then.I found myself going on the same roller-coaster ride as the main character, Bette.Weisberger has such a unique and personal way of writing.I felt like I *was* Bette, at some points... when Weisberger described Bette's heartaches, I felt my heart race and my stomach drop, as though I was the one going through it.When Bette's life hit a high, I smiled and squealed and was elated right along with her.Weisberger has a way of describing life's highs and lows in a way that I can relate to.I found myself literally nodding in knowing agreement at many phrases in the book. She seems to have a particular talent for putting words to feelings.

Weisberger's writing is witty, funny, and captivating.I couldn't read fast enough. And it certainly took my mind off of my own problems while I was reading it.I loved escaping into "the realm of New York's chic, party-hopping elite".I highly recommend this book to anyone, but most especially, 20-somethings caught in their own love-affair with the city.Maybe that's why I liked it so much!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not one of my favs by Weisberger
Chic Lit has grown so vastly over a short period of time but this novel failed to deliver the same kind of greatness that The Devil Wears Prada held. I did enjoy certain parts but it did almost seem a bit unrealistic as far as the world of PR firms are concerned. The main character in the novel, Bette seemed like a well rounded character was at times not as convincing as she should have been. Overall, another summer read that is better enjoyed when you don't have another to read. ... Read more
