I am a fan of Wayne Dyer.Love all his products. This was my first meditations CD.Got some good info out of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent.Wayne Dyers voice is fine, great CD.
After reading some of the reviews about Wayne Dyer's voice, I checked it out of the library for a test run, expecting to not like it . . although I do like his voice on his other CD's/DVD's.I've listened to it three times yesterday in the car while driving - just to see if I wanted to proceed and use it "properly."I found his voice to be very helpful; I enjoyed doing the meditation WITH him. I liked his explanation of the process and why these sounds in particular are used; I'm very excited to begin to use it in the morning and evening as instructed. He has read some letters on his healing CD (an excellent live presentation at a chiropractors' conference) from a few folks who used this japa meditation; the stories are as amazing as the ones I read in the Amazon reviews.Wayne Dyer acquaints newbies with meditation/healing practices in such a wonderful, simple, straightforward way.I'm sure after a few days of doing the meditations with the CD, I will just do my own thing, but right now I'm finding it very helpful to be led through it step by step. ... Product Description
The practice of meditation takes us on a fabulous journey into the gap between our thoughts, where all the advantages of a more peaceful, stress-free, healthy, and fatigue-free life are available, but which are simply side benefits. The paramount reason for daily meditation is to get into the gap between our thoughts, and make conscious contact with the creative energy of life itself. Dr. Wayne W. Dyer explains the soul-nourishing meditation technique for making conscious contact with God, which the ancient masters have told us about.

You have the potential to be an instrument of the highest good for all concerned and to be a literal miracle worker in your own life. No person, government, or religion can legitimately claim to do this for you. "In fact," says Dr. Dyer, "I agree with Carl Jung who said, 'One of the main functions of formalized religion is to protect people against a direct experience of God.'" When you master getting into the gap and staying there for prolonged segments of meditation, and experience what you bring back to the material world, you will know your answer to the question: "Why meditate?" ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A wise teacher
Wayne Dyer's down-to-earth wisdom is inspiring and meaningful for an everyday full life. He shows us how to listen more clearly to our inner wisdom and how to live more serenely (with humor) in the moment. As a metaphysician myself, I am keenly in reverence of his asute insights into the spiritual nature of our physical lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting In The Gap
Absolutely fantastic. I never knew anything about meditating or what you should expect once you begin. I was "in the gap" after the very first session - and can't wait to find time to do so everyday. The book is short but has a powerful message. To me, the real deal is the guided sessions on the included cd. I put it on my iPod immediately.

Thank you Wayne Dyer!

Tom

2-0 out of 5 stars Where is the CD that was promised with this book?
I recieved this book in the mail today. I am pleased with the book and quickly read it. What I am disappointed with is there was not a meditation CD in the book, which is the reason why I purchased the book in the first place. I think the seller should stop advertising the book as being sold with CD if there is no CD. False advertising. ... Read more

Dr. Wayne Dyer’s 10 Secrets to Success and Inner Peace: The ten "secrets" for success and inner peace presented here apply whether you’re just embarking on your path, are nearing the end of it, or are on the path in any way. 5-0 out of 5 stars Almost as good as the later 'Change Your Thoughts'...
Spirituality is often discounted in the modern World. It is often used in a vague sense of 'Spiritual but Not Religious' or as something with little intrinsic worth.
It's a pity as spirituality has such a vital role to play in everything & knowing your own purpose & meaning in life is so essential in both succeeding & enjoying your time on the planet.

These 4 CD's seem to be a 'Best of' of Wayne Dyer's latest Public TV appearances, covering 4 topic areas.

***

1) There's a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem.

This talk (and the second) are from where Ralph Waldo Emerson used to lecture (in Concord, Massachusetts) & he covers a great deal of material on Transcendentalism & integrating spiritual concepts into your life. This particular lecture isn't so much showing a particular problem & illustrating a spiritual solution, but more how to be kinder & more of an 'Instrument of Peace'.
Essentially this talk is based around two things -
a) A Henry David Thoreau quote "Our Truest life is when we are in our dreams awake"
b) The prayer of St Francis (the one that British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher used at the start of her Premiership - "where there is fear may we bring hope, where there is discord may we bring harmony" etc).

Towards the end of this particular CD, there is a special segment illustrating the energies of different thoughts & showing how much longer they can resist with positive assertions than negative thoughts.
There is also a performance of 'Amazing Grace' by his daughter Sky.

As this CD is first, it has the most impact & seems to have the pick of the best material. It also has the virtue of being based on one of his books, so the material is honed & plentiful.

*

2) 10 Secrets of Success and Inner Peace.

The annoying thing with this section is that Dr Dyer has a habit of saying "and the *next* principle is", and so I only counted 9 principles.
However, they are all very pithy & rich in content though & they include: 3. 'There are no Justified resentments', 6. 'Give up your personal history' & 8. ' Treat yourself as if you already were what you'd like to become'
There are also a few excellent stories including one about a teacher who learns how to 'teach children' as opposed to 'teaching Arithmetic & Geography' etc.

As with CD1, there is also a bonus section on the 'four ways of getting Strawberry Ice Cream' & another interesting story.
This content is fairly similar to the content at the start of CD 3 (e.g. about Serendipity) but the story is not.

*

3) Improve Your Life Using the Wisdom of the Ages.

To me this was the best section as it shows Dyer's vast knowledge of past wisdom teachers. Based on Aldous Huxley's The Perennial Philosophy, Dyer shows what ancient & modern teachers had to say about life, which was basically 'live for the moment'.
So often it is said & so rare it occurs that people actually live their own life, rather than live an accumulation of what other people have told them they should do. To live ones own life is to be bold & true to oneself & not compromise your message.

Dyer sums up by saying 'Conformists are honoured when they are alive, and rebels when they are dead'. A pity, but isn't life about being remembered rather than forgotten..?

*

4) How to Get What You Really Really Want.

This CD is seems to be based around Dyer's book Manifest Your Destiny.
The simple lesson of this CD seemed to be that 'as you think so you will be' & that you should focus on what you want, rather than what you don't want, in order to achieve success. Sounds simple enough, but this is the way a lot of people live their lives.

Dyer uses the illustration of having £1 million pounds & going shopping. At every shop you see a grotty lampshade or carpet, complain about it & buy it anyway. When you get home, you wonder how you ended up with such an ugly apartment. The reason? You focused on what you didn't want & not what you did!

***

Some of the ideas in the four CD's overlap & I remember experiencing a lot of Deja Vu with some of the themes. For instance, the Tolstoy novel The Death of Ivan Ilyich is mentioned at least 3 times as an illustration of someone dying 'with their music unsung' & Dyer appears to stick to a lot of similar themes based around certain teachers.
Indeed - I had to listen to all these CD's twice to unweave which particular lesson belonged in which CD & his lessons certainly aren't as clearly applicable & discernible as, say, Dawkins' illustrations or Bill Hicks' thoughts.

That said, the stories & ideas he conveys are simple & compelling & although the over-riding idea may be the same (be selfless, positive & spiritual), it still requires a lot of repetition to get across.

If you're someone who is going through a rough patch in life & wants some food for thought on how to improve things, then this CD comes highly recommended. Even if things are going swimmingly, this CD will prove useful owing to the wisdom contained within & the easily-shared illustrations.

First of all though, I would seriously recommend purchasing Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao, as it has a lot more content & sees Dyer on a higher plain of evolution than this work.
I also pass on one of Dyer's recommendations in the CD's: the Tao Te Ching. Not only is it rich in wisdom but, as Dyer states "it can be read in a lazy afternoon".

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wayne Dyer Cd Collection
Excellent self help audio cd's to listen to while riding in one's car and essential in helping other's in meeting their needs as well. This is an awesome collection. Everyone can have this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Birder Feedback
I found the book disappointing.Think it would be good for a novice.Much information for a novice taking up birdwatching but repetitive for a seasoned birder. The type is poorly done and hard to read. The promised secrets to attracting birds may well be in this book but one would have to read cover to cover to find them!I wold not recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wayne Dyer is an amazing spiritual leader with a great sense of humor.
I have been listening to Dr. Wayne Dyer for over 7 years and I can honestly say my life is better in all respects for it.

When Wayne comes out with a new audio book I will purchase and listen to it in the morning.

Try it and see what happens in your life!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Real Sleight of Hand
I read this book about 15 years ago, and at that time I would have rated it five stars. Now, I believe that Dyer certainly has a way with words that resonates powerfully with the feelings and "intuitions" that many people have: this accounts for the appeal of his books. However, I wonder if this reliance on feelings and "intuition" (whatever that is) has any validity at all. I think, rather, that this is a book of self-deception, of sleight-of-hand. Why do we believe its premise? Because we want to believe we can create everything the way we want. Because we still cling to the immature desires for omnipotence, for infallibility, for immortality, for invincibility, for invulnerability. But we remain mortal, insignificant, imperfect beings in a wide universe, governed by natural laws. Life has many disappointments as well as successes -- we can't change that fact. Dyer claims that the world is undergoing a spiritual revolution, an awakening. I would like to believe that, but if you look at the increasing fear, hatred and intolerance in the world, it seems that the facts don't bear out his premise. Dyer claims that you can overcome disease with your mind, but he now has leukemia. If I have any mantra now, it is this: "There is no magic". There exists nothing mystical, nothing supernatural. I find that the best guide to a fulfilling life is still plain reason, imperfect as it is. The most important thing is keeping a sober mind to find rational, practical solutions to life's problems. To me, most of Dyer's ideas now seem irrelevant, as do mysticism and the belief in the supernatural. It takes Dyer hundreds of pages to state his case --it takes that much to "prove" his ideas. Perhaps that only proves how insubstantial his ideas are. If you love his books, you won't like what I have said, and that is all right too. Fifteen years ago I would have agreed with you. But rather than follow his advice, I would advise this: Don't worry about the spiritual, don't do meditation. Love your spouse and your family. Love your job and do the best you can with it. Help your fellow human beings as you can. Take care of your house. Look up at the sky now and then. Don't go off the deep end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read
This is a book everyone should read... it will change how you look at everything around you, yourself and hopefully inspire you to be a better person.

5-0 out of 5 stars Please read this book!!!!!
As someone who has perhaps been a little cynical in the past, I can honestly say that this book is changing me - the way I think, the way I act - and I'm sure for the better. My partner has noticed a new me in just 10 days! This book shows that you can change the way you think and change your life. It talks about how to create miracles, and I've already seen a few minor miracles in my own life in just 10 days.
I won't try to summarise the whole book since there are too many important points. However, please just buy the book, read it with an open mind, follow what it says, and you will be a very happier, more joyous, more prosperous person. Mr Dyer, you are blessed! and, as you yourself would say, we can all be blessed too.
PS I have a very scientific upbringing and my colleagues would not believe I've written such a review - but I stick with it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Milagroso!

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Magic by Wayne Dyer
This book is very fitting for the current times. The book is about creating miracles in your everyday life in a very transparent and sustainable way and becoming an example to your friends and family.

I have put to practice the suggestion to dwell on what you are for, not what you do not want. This makes a lot of difference to the final outcome in your experience as your energy is then focused on your desired outcome.

There will be less strife if we all adopt the lessons in spirituality taught in this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read if you have children!
Wayne Dyer does it again! He provides practical information that every parent can (and should) use on a daily basis. For example, one specific piece of information that I think we tend to forget as parents is how important it is to model the types of behaviors we want our children to display. Dr. Dyer spells out his instructions for modeling good behavior in a way that is easy to understand and follow. There is a wealth of information in this book and I definitely refer to it often.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every parent or grand parent should read this book
This book opens yours eyes to things we are doing to and around our children that we don't even know we're doing. It is definitely a must read for any parent or grand parent

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite insightful
Being the father of three children, I enjoyed reading this book. This book helped me to see many of the negative parenting patterns that years of conditioning had created in my ego. The number one thing that I walked away with was the understanding that my children have to make their own lives (with my wife's and my guidance, of course), and that it is not my place to control them. Wayne also provides ways to help you see yourself and then how to correct any negative traits you possess concerning parenting. While I may not agree 100% with every idea he has regarding parenting, I would say I agree 90% (now that I've read it). I have seen many of my fallacies and have seen how they have affected and will affect my children negatively; I have seen how to change those ways also, thanks to this book.

I believe EVERY parent should read this book, and I've given it to new parents and have recommended it to others. No matter how old your children are, Wayne has written this book for you, now. It's never too late to correct your mistakes and help your children grow to be mature, responsible, creative, limitless adults, and Wayne stresses that in this book. I believe you will appreciate it, therefore, I highly recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars not news for a psychology major
i thought this book had good points that would be useful to parents who don't have psychology background - there are many references to various types of positive reinforcement and conflict resolution that would be helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars From the author of, Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves
As the author of Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves, I find What Do You Really Want for YOur Children to be nice, but not on the leading edge. Wayne Dyer is always full of stories and joy which is inspiring. The book is a fine introduction to being a parent who does not follow the old authoriterian ways. If you are inspired, don't stop here. Read other, more up to date books.

For example, Wayne speaks in praise of praise, yet, praise is manipulation. It gives the parents control over the child. The parent uses it to attempt to get a child to repeat a good behavior or achievement or control their emotions. If you read Punished by Rewards, or my own articles about praise and my book, you would know that praise is as bad as punishment and actually harms self-esteem and self-reliance.

Although much is missing in this book, it is also a delight to read from a delightful writer and speaker. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wayne Dyer's Best Work
In this book from early on in Dr. Dyer's career he really nails the "soft spots" in our brains, as he calls them. The book is a down to earth, kick in the butt, call to action for anyone who has ever experienced an inner battle of any sort.

Gudjon Bergmann, author of Living in the Spirit of Yoga (2010) and The Seven Human Needs (2006)

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed Thoughts Here
First things first: there are some very fundamental principles to learn in this book if you were not aware of them already. These include trusting in yourself and not having to rely on others, present-moment thinking, the rejection of negative emotions, separating your self image from other-oriented criticism and failure, etc. Indeed, there is a lot of good content here. Dyer can get repetitive, sometimes filling out a chapter with the same information said over and over in different ways, but I guess that's okay.

Okay, now that that's out of the way...

I was very confused with the numerous sexual references in the book. Sometimes it seems mildly inappropriate, and other times it just outright catches you off guard. This occurs mostly toward the beginning of the book. One incident in particular occurs in chapter 2. In regards to leaning how to love yourself, Dyer suggests standing nude in front of a mirror, exploring yourself sensually, with the aim of achieving "goose-bumps of shivery pleasure." I haven't read other self-help books. Maybe this is a common theme? I sure didn't see it coming.

Another complaint I had was in Dyer's perception of ideal relationships with others. He argues that holding any person above yourself is a grave mistake. No one is better than you. It's a bad idea to have idols or heroes, says Dyer. He brings forth obscurities as refusing to call your dentist "doctor," for that gives him prestige for his title that he doesn't deserve. Really? Wow. There are numerous nit-picks like this throughout the book--strange rituals between the lines.

Furthermore, one should never, according to Dyer, aid someone who needs you. He says it is better to refuse to help them, with the goal of teaching them to help themselves. The last time I checked, the phrase "need" means their request was not an optional favor--they are in trouble. I guess that's not how Dyer sees it.

The overlying theme that I could not overlook is essentially this: your personal happiness and fulfillment are paramount to everything else. Never feel bad. Even at a funeral, show no negative emotion. Compassion is a waste of present moment time where you could be feeling happy. If you don't like something, don't do it. It does not matter what anyone else thinks, or who it affects for the worse.

It's just an inflated, egotistical world view, and Dyer even acknowledges to disregard people who call you selfish for it.

So yes.. I'm not sure how to feel about this one. There is definitely some content to make it worth the read, but at the same time the peculiarities mentioned leave you feeling uncomfortable at times and offended at others.

if you are ready this book from the very beginning till the end will make sense,an amazing approach to life..life is a beautiful fun journey!!!,worry, guilt, complaining, fairness are all irrelevant, live and enjoy!!thanks dwyer your visions are amazing!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing, perfect for wackos like me
This was officially the first "self help" book I've ever read.In fact, it's the first book I've ever willfully read on my own (excluding the books I was forced to read in school and college). It was amazing.I felt like he was speaking directly to me and my specific problems from start to finish. He has a completely contrarian view on SO many aspects of life that just makes you think "wow, I've never thought of it that way."I highly, highly recommend and I'll definitely read it again. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Wayne Dyer - 101 Ways to Transform Your Life
Dr. Dyer has studied so long on meditation and what "works" in life. This is a great tape for meditation if you need to change your thinking habits.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's all in you... remember?
I absolutely LOVE this audio book. Dr. Wayne Dyer's voice is very soothing and he makes his message simple to relate to and undestand. I listen to this book when I go to sleep at night; It helped me greatly when I was recovering from depression and I still listen to it regularly now. The suggestions are very simple and help put daily challenges in a perspective that them makes them manageable. He also mentions how God has a plan and how He is part of us. This audio book is a must, especially for such a cheap price - just skip your daily latte once, this is well worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful!
I've been playing this CD in my car and listing to bits at a time. Some of the ideas are repeated, but this is good to help one to remember what was said.
Very helpful on the way to work to give me a better attitude about facing the day.
If you really don't have the cash for this, I'm thinking there's probably a used book somewhere.
Even if you only listen/read this once, it can give you some new perspective on your life and the people in it.

    Product Description

Within the pages of this transformational book, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer reveals how to change the self-defeating thinking patterns that have prevented you from living at the highest levels of success, happiness, and health. Even though you may know what to think, actually changing those thinking habits that have been with you since childhood might be somewhat challenging.

If I changed, it would create family dramas . . . I’m too old or too young . . . I’m far too busy and tired . . . I can’t afford the things I truly want . . . It would be very difficult for me to do things differently . . . and I’ve always been this way . . . may all seem to be true, but they’re in fact just excuses. So the business of modifying habituated thinking patterns really comes down to tossing out the same tired old excuses and examining your beliefs in a new and truthful light.

In this groundbreaking work, Wayne presents a compendium of conscious and subconscious crutches employed by virtually everyone, along with ways to cast them aside once and for all. You’ll learn to apply specific questions to any excuse, and then proceed through the steps of a new paradigm. The old, habituated ways of thinking will melt away as you experience the absurdity of hanging on to them.

You’ll ultimately realize that there are no excuses worth defending, ever, even if they’ve always been part of your life—and the joy of releasing them will resonate throughout your very being. When you eliminate the need to explain your shortcomings or failures, you’ll awaken to the life of your dreams.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Audio CD's!
I listen to these CDs over and over again. Makes me motivated to do all the things I thought I would never do or thought I just didn't have the time to do. Dr. Wayne Dyer is the man! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Dyer winner
Dyer's writing is always enlightening but this book, despite it's off-putting title, is most helpful because it is so specific in zeroing in on the stories we make up or believe that prevent us from being who we want to be and having and doing what we really want.Don't skip this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars not loving it
I just didn't like this book.I have read his stuff before and its just new age- easy to say, not to do.I love Tony Robbins stuff-much more doable. Save your money and order Tony Robbins instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Changing Habits
I think Wayne Dyer has introduced a process for changing negative, unproductive patterns. It is not something you can listen to once and "zap" yourself into a new paradigm. To me, this is like a class to which you return many times and pick up the content slowly adding it to your way of approaching life, both internally and externally.Maybe the addition of a spiral-bound workbook would reinforce the principles put forth in the book. When people actually write things in the workbook, it would help to cement the new habits in place.Overall, I love what is suggested in the book and hope that I will continue to re-listen and change my way of living. ... Product Description

Five hundred years before the birth of Jesus, a God-realized being named Lao-tzu in ancient China dictated 81 verses, which are regarded by many as the ultimate commentary on the nature of our existence. The classic text of these 81 verses, called the Tao Te Ching or the Great Way, offers advice and guidance that is balanced, moral, spiritual, and always concerned with working for the good.

In this book, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer has reviewed hundreds of translations of the Tao Te Ching and has written 81 distinct essays on how to apply the ancient wisdom of Lao-tzu to today’s modern world. This work contains the entire 81 verses of the Tao, compiled from Wayne’s researching of 10 of the most well-respected translations of text that have survived for more than 25 centuries. Each chapter is designed for actually living the Tao or the Great Way today. Some of the chapter titles are “Living with Flexibility,” “Living Without Enemies,” and “Living by Letting Go.” Each of the 81 brief chapters focuses on living the Tao and concludes with a section called “Doing the Tao Now.”

Wayne spent one entire year reading, researching, and meditating on Lao-tzu’s messages, practicing them each day and ultimately writing down these essays as he felt Lao-tzu wanted you to know them.

This is a work to be read slowly, one essay a day. As Wayne says, “This is a book that will forever change the way you look at your life, and the result will be that you’ll live in a new world aligned with nature. Writing this book changed me forever, too. I now live in accord with the natural world and feel the greatest sense of peace I’ve ever experienced. I’m so proud to present this interpretation of the Tao Te Ching, and offer the same opportunity for change that it has brought me.”

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this cd set
As a person who has never before been introduced to Taoism, I have to say, this has been a wonderful journey so far. While I can understand where some of the reviews on here are coming from, I can safely say that if it were not for Mr Dyer, I would not be learning this fantastic way of life.

The Wisdom that is shared from the Tao is a very personal experience for every person who seeks it, and as such this is just one man of many's opinion of what the verses mean. I relax almost immediately in my car driving when I turn this on, and have found that even if I stop paying attention to the words, I am driving much more calm and less hurried compared to when I listen to local radio.

That aside I can say that these incredible teachings are something I plan to jump into heart and soul, as they have already made me calmer, more peaceful, less irritable and better able to view the world's unique and beautiful creations.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new to the topic
This is a book written in the Tao but yet Mr Dyer's insights seems trite and superficial. He spent very little time working on this.I think you can get the essence of that by reading the "look inside" part of this book on amazon.Too bad I was dumb and bought it before reading these reviews.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Atheist meets his match!
I've been an atheist for about 6 months now & had got to the point where I realised that yes: it may have truth to it, but it doesn't translate into any kind of way of life. In fact, I'd go so far to say that it is very much a negative philosophy of 'I don't believe in something', rather than asserting something to believe in.

So I watched The Tao Of Steve (after reading the peerless book My Friend Leonard) & was intrigued enough to search up the subject, whereupon I discovered this & the book itself. I tried the Tao Te Ching but the version I had is a little dense & ineloquent, requiring detailed study & reflection.

When I tried this, however, it was like pure spiritual truth. Each verse is a condensed, simple version of the Tao (if not 100% faithful) & the small essays elaborate on the important themes of each verse to aid understanding.
Saying this, to my critical faculties it struck me as woolly & soft. But as I got into it, I realised that the Rabbit hole did go very deep indeed.

The weirdest thing is that most audio CD's rely on you hearing the majority of the words (& remembering them) in order to understand the contents. Driving in a car, this is not always feasible but this CD seems to work on a subconcious level, meaning the wisdom is not necessarily perceived although it is certainly acted on & absorbed by the mind.

My one criticism (if I might be so bold) is that the Tao does not seem at heart to be a Christian Theistic philosophy, but more Pantheist. This CD relies heavily on the Bible & God to explain the Tao even though (as he Dr Dyer confesses on CD 7) the Taoist concept of God has nothing to do with reward & punishment.
I also think that (given that Jesus took many of his ideas from Buddha) that Dr Dyer should quote more from Buddha and less from Jesus.

That said, I did find the Biblical verses added understanding & the CD is bold in proclaiming Taoist philosophy & that we all worship one 'God'.
I'm still an atheist, but I now think that there is a decent competing philosophy - one which is less harsh, more subtle & which gives direction in life. I'd recommend this CD set as an excellent starting point for anyone interested in Taoism & I think it is an excellent way to balance ones life - between the relentless fierce logic of secularism, and the pure embracing (almost naive) love of the Tao.

    ***

P.S. Something completely random that I realised the other day is that Wayne Dyer has a very similar voice to Morpheus from The Matrix. Maybe the undefinable Tao is actually the Matrix, who knows?

5-0 out of 5 stars Daily Life Changing
This book it food for the soul. I notice every day more peace in situations that would have rattled me in the past. Unknowingly, this book helped me prepare for my Mother's death. Everything in the world looks different. My reaction toward people is different. Reading this book filled me with answers and peace. It's easier to identify the important and not so important things in life. Like a Bible, it's worth reading over and over.

    Product Description
Intention is generally viewed as a pit-bull kind of determination propelling one to succeed at all costs by never giving up on an inner picture. In this view, an attitude that combines hard work with an indefatigable drive toward excellence is the way to succeed. However, intention is viewed very differently in this book. Dr. Wayne W. Dyer has researched intention as a force in the universe that allows the act of creation to take place. This book explores intention—not as something you do—but as an energy you’re a part of. We’re all intended here through the invisible power of intention. This is the first book to look at intention as a field of energy that you can access to begin co-creating your life with the power of intention.

Part I deals with the principles of intention, offering true stories and examples on ways to make the connection. Dr. Dyer identifies the attributes of the all-creating universal mind of intention as creative, kind, loving, beautiful, expanding, endlessly abundant, and receptive, explaining the importance of emulating this source of creativity. In Part II, Dr. Dyer offers an intention guide with specific ways to apply the co-creating principles in daily life. Part III is an exhilarating description of Dr. Dyer’s vision of a world in harmony with the universal mind of intention.Amazon.com Review
After years of spiritual study and reflection, inspirational speaker and bestselling author Wayne Dyer has emerged a highly esteemed teacher. His current message about tapping into the power of intention may sound like good old positive thinking: just stay focused on what you want, rather than focusing on the lack of having what you want. But the teaching here goes deeper than just controlling thoughts (although he does acknowledge that thought control is a surprisingly challenging and significant endeavor). This book might help readers land a better job, but it's more relevant for those who are ready to detach from an ego-driven life filled with quick fixes of happiness and step into a more authentic, joyful, and spiritually fulfilling life. His core teachings speak to tapping into a universal source of energy that can also be called the "power of intention." He calls people who are consciously co-creating with this energy source "connectors" and describes them as "individuals who have made themselves available for success...They don't say With my luck things won't work out. Instead, you’re more likely to hear something like, I intend to create this and I know it will work out." Connectors are also committed to Dyer's "seven faces of intention"--creativity, kindness, love, beauty, expansion, abundance and receptivity, which he speaks to throughout the book. Each chapter concludes with five suggestions for becoming stronger connectors, such as how to monitor one's inner speech or shift out of low-energy beliefs. Some criticize Dyer for not giving credit to other teachers who offer this same message, especially Jerry and Esther Hicks (A New Beginning I) and even Ralph Waldo Emerson. It's impossible to know whether this was a deliberate omission, but it is obvious that Dyer has tapped into a growing conversation about co-creating with "source." Other leading-edge voices in this conversation include Eckhart Tolle (The Power of Now), Shakti Gawain (Creative Visualization ) and Lynn Grabhorn (Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting). --Gail Hudson ... I have had the great honor of interviewing Dr. Wayne Dyer for LifeBites television segment. He is a down to earth spiritual author. Not everyone walks the talk. He does. If you like Wayne Dyer, you'll love this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must For All Law Of Attraction Enthusiasts!
I can't say enough good about this book.I've read a host of material about the Law Of Attraction in the past five years and this is one of if not the best I've read. It's very down to earth and easy to understand and impliment in your life. The excercises it asks you to try are not time consuming but really work.It gives a different perspective on teachings touched on in "The Secret" and "The Power" by Rhonda Byrne that make it sound, not only feasable, but absolutely attainable.I just finished the book today and purchased another of his books which I can't wait to start reading tomorrow. If you want to take control of your life, don't even think about passing this one up.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best program ever!
One of the best lectures I listened...In fact it persuaded me to purchase the whole book

1-0 out of 5 stars sloppy
The author spends a lot of time talking about himself. The philosophy in it has deep flaws that can border on victim blaming. Positive thoughts go a long way, but much of the philosophy in the book is not well thought out, and omits important qualifiers. For example, tell a child in an abusive home that her destiny is mainly determined by her spiritual thoughts? She brought this on herself? I think not.

The book has not really thought through many sides of the issues it presents. Victims, those with disabilities, those who are dependent on others-and how all of that would be related to karma and intention, is all omitted. In terms of being a term paper in philosophy it is very poor. Other thinkers and texts are mentioned rarely and fleetingly. Most of it is invented, de novo, from a comfortable position.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate tour guide
Wayne has been around this circuit for a long time and I have been deriving guidance from his work for nearly as long. Reading The Power of Intention in not like taking a walk in the park. It's more like taking the express route to inner peace and arriving into personal power. I have read this book three times in the past two years and keep it on hand for whenever I am seeking inspiration. I can flip open to a particular chapter and get just the boost I need to set my track clear. Once again, thanks Wayne. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Manual about Who We Really Are & Aspire to Be
It is unusual for me to write a book review. I've read 100s of insightful personal/spiritual/business development books over the last 25 years many of which were Dr. Dyers. This book however is a bridge (connection tool) that everyone who chooses to live a better quality life can use to connect who they uniquely are with the intention to create anything they want in their lives - absolutely anything. It was amazing to see Dr. Dyer connect Abraham's teachings, David Hawkins & Lynne McTaggart's work and quantum physics into an artistic masterpiece that anyone who chooses to be open to hearing the message can understand. I personally related well to Chapter 15. Thank you, Dr. Dyer for sharing with the world your best message yet! I am humbled and honored to be one of your students.

    Product Description

In this inspirational work, best-selling author and lecturer Wayne W. Dyer shows you how to restore balance in your life by offering nine principles for realigning your thoughts so that they correspond to your highest desires.
Imagine a balance scale with one end weighted down to the ground, and the other end—featuring the objects of your desires—sticking up precariously in the air. This scale is a measurement of your thoughts. To restore the same balance that characterizes everything in our universe, you have to take up the weighty thoughts so that they match up to your desires.
The seasons reflect the overall harmony of life. For example, winter passes and the blossoms emerge. This is balanced by a need to have the trees rest, so autumn arrives on time and helps the trees ready themselves for another period of repose. This book is dedicated to the idea that we’re a vital component of this creative process and have within ourselves the wherewithal to create all that we want if we recognize and revise out-of-balance thoughts.

2-0 out of 5 stars Same thought told over and over again.
To sum up the entire book:align your thoughts and your beliefs with your desires, and they will become your reality.

Then he says that same thing many different ways over and over.

I listened to the audio version, and my complaints are that 1) he spoke way too fast for me to have time to process what his was trying to get across and 2) his mouth sounded "sticky" like he needed a drink of water and it made me very thirsty.

I didn't really care for the overall content.I didn't connect at all to what he was saying.I was hoping for some techniques on living a less stressful life, and I don't feel any better equipped to do so.

Arrived in terrific condition and an excellent book! I have been growing so much personally from reading it. I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bottom line is: If you're on the cusp this little book will leap you over the line to "Enlightenment!"
Much has been written as I quickly glanced at the many materials submitted. After having spend a great deal of time getting educated, Ph.D. Counseling Psychology and Wholistic Health and traveling the word to sacred sites and mediatating under the Tree of Wisdom, so to speak, there is one thing I know for sure:You have to let the limitations of your education go (this means drop the linear over education out of your mind-consciousness) and let an inner knowing take over.If you suspend all your outer trappings while you drink in this little book it will change you. Finally after some time I had an tremedous leap.It was developing as I was reading "Being in Balance".That leap:I felt fully Love for everyone...the leap to Love took place.I could visualize and beyond any intellectual knowing of the concept I was able to feel a Felt-Cosmic Love for everyone and that included a certain female political figure that, I admit, I've had a difficult time with ever since she showed up in August of 2008 as a political figure (for me this was and is pretty solid proof that a real something occurred). It has been five days since I drank in this little book all in one uninterruptd sitting. It is "Spiritized"...don't segment it into little pieces for analysis just drink in the Magic Elixer of It and you will be changed.Five days and I still have Cosmic and relative Love feelings globally and focused specifically...like the change to Paul that began on the road to Damascus...you will change by the miracle of this book.

    Product Description
Bestselling author Wayne W. Dyer has crafted a powerful collection of writings, poems, and sayings by some of the greatest thinkers of the past twentyfive centuries. In succinct original essays, Dyer sets out to explain the meaning and context of each piece of wisdom, and, most important, how we can actively apply these teachings to our modern lives.

A beautiful and thoughtful gift, this book shows us a window to wisdom and a door to greatness.

    Amazon.com Review
Wisdom of the Ages reads like a workshop on "What the Masters can Teach You." Author Wayne Dyer offers wisdom taught by the world's "great teachers" (such as Buddha, Jesus, Confucius, Michelangelo, and Emily Dickinson) and then provides an easy-to-digest interpretation for modern readers. The book is formatted into daily, quoted passages (around a page in length) from 60 of these teachers--the "60 Days to Enlightenment" in the book's title. After each quote, Dyer offers his own thoughts on how the "lesson" can be applied to contemporary life. After his essay, the author includes a list of exercises to put the teacher's advice to use. Each passage includes a heading--"Soulcenter" for a quote from Herman Melville's Moby Dick, or "Communication" for William Blake's poem "A Poison Tree," for example.

While his tone is always reverent, Dyer's interpretations occasionally sound flat and obvious--as if he is dumbing down the language for his audience, rather than elevating readers to a higher consciousness (or at least a higher education). This is a shame, because when Dyer writes with the eloquent and enthusiastic voice that earned him his huge popularity--glimpses of that voice do appear in this book--one sees why so many consider him a "master teacher" in his own right. --Gail Hudson ... He suggests you read one passage per day to allow proper time to reflect upon it.I tried this, but there's just too much good stuff in here!I read through the entire book in just a couple of days and have many quotes from it hanging around my house.

If you're looking for some heartwarming inspiration, read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The End of Striving!
Life is a journey, for me a journey for truth. This book will definitely help you get where you are trying to get.Dr. Dyer says, that if you are not producing what you desire to produce, ask yourself, "what is it that I am not willing to do?"The good Dr. does a good job of leading you to the jewels that are tucked away in each and every page of the book. His tone is compassionate, instructive and warmly non-judgmental.The book is very easy to read and very enjoyable, "you will learn to enjoy your journey, step by step, day by day, while you are on your way to life's picnic, and not just waiting for the ultimate joy once you arrive.Over all, the book will help you see clearly where you are and where you are not, with the encouragement to always avoid self condemnation. This to me is a classic, the kind of book that every now and then, you want to pull it down from the shelf and read it again. You will learn to arrive, which is The End of Striving. The action is here and now, tomorrow is gone, and the future is just an illusion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book.
I've seen Wayne Dyer on tv shows before. So, I was familiar with what he believes.I was delighted to see him connect his way of thinking to the Bible. There seems to be a lot of people writing about thinking your way to success without mentioning the Bible. They refer to the "universe" as our source of power. While I believe that any book that helps people think more positively, is a good thing, I was glad this book connects our happiness and success to God.I think this book acts a good reminder to "see" things as we want them to be first and then we'll actually see them in reality.Great book.Great means to more positive thinking!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Audio teachings from Dr.Dyer
Having read several of Dr.Dyers books, I thought I would like to have some of his audio titles as well to listen to in the car or while exercising so I purchased this collection of several of his works.

I have enjoyed all of the CD's in this collection and all deliver very simple ways of looking at life and all the experiences we encounter.

This collection was well worth the purchase price and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is open to changing the way you look at and approach life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, as usual!
Wonderful, as usual. If you want to convert your life, then purchase these audios (I personally like the Meditations for manifesting-- I did them every day while driving to work)! You have to really believe that you can be better! Once you start using positive affirmation, your life will start to change (your loser friends will magically stop calling, you will make friends with successful people, you will make more money, etc, etc.) It's all true. Misery loves company--and the same holds true in reverse. If you are miserable, overweight, obsessive--- whatever your failings--if you concentrate on those negative things, you will just continue to compound them every day. I don't do such a good job explaining this, so I guess you are just going to have to buy the book. I have enjoyed all of Wayne Dyer's books and audios (with few exceptions). I watch his programs on PBS and I support the work that he does.

5-0 out of 5 stars eye opening
If you ever wondered how or where to "get/find" "peace," check him out!For those who are clueless, you will be surprised by the answers. For those who have been fighting life, here's the chance to find lasting peace. The man makes the bigg bucks because he is that good. His personal life is not perfect because he is human. But the quality of the message is what counts, not the messenger.Dyer takes the world's teachings of right and wrong and summarizes it all in a manageable and simple how-to list.Yes, being at peace with the world is a lot easier said than done, so make the change, make a difference, see the light!Don't miss out.

1-0 out of 5 stars Scammer alert
Well, after 4 or 5 wives who were pretty much 'enslaved' by Wayne Dyer, I know the 'spin' he expounds for the $,$$$,$$$...SOOOOO sad that he twists the truths of the universe (whatever those are) to his slimey advantage.Better to return to the raw simple truths (like the Dalai Lama, Thich Nan, Tao, etc) instead of promoting this shyster. His wives could tell you he's a bossy pr*ck.Sorry if this is a disillusion, but as most 'gurus' are fake... this one happens to be TOTALLY fake.Sorry :( ... Product Description

The Shift—a companion book to the movie of the same name—illustrates how and why to make the move from ambition to meaning. Such a shift eliminates our feelings of separateness, illuminates our spiritual connectedness, and involves moving from the ego-directed morning into the afternoon of life where everything is primarily influenced by purpose.

As we contemplate leaving the morning of our life, where ego has played a commanding role, and entering the afternoon (and evening), where meaning and purpose replace ambition and struggle, we may encounter unexpected occurrences that accompany this new direction. It’s almost a universal law that we’ll experience a fall of some kind. Yet these falls or low points provide the energy we need to move away from ego and into a life of meaning and purpose.

The Shift doesn’t mean that we lose our drive and ambition; it signifies that we become ambitious about something new. We make a commitment to living a life based on experiencing meaning and feeling purposeful, rather than never-ending demands and false promises that are the trademark of the ego’s agenda.

As Dr. Wayne W. Dyer so eloquently reveals in these pages, we all have the choice to shift our lives from ambition to meaning . . . and thereby complete our return to the Source that created us.

THE SHIFT: TAKING YOUR LIFE FROM AMBITION TO MEANING offers a companion book to a movie of the same name and shows how to move from Ambition to Meaning in life. This shift highlights spirituality and moves concerns to a life where every choice is influenced by purpose. The result is an engrossing, positive read any new age library will want, backed by Dr. Dyer's famous name.

5-0 out of 5 stars Experience change in your world
The Shift takes place at a magical beach front retreat where people of all walks of life come to vacation, get married or just relax by the ocean and walk the beautiful trails. In the DVD, the story begins with a small camera crew meeting Dyer for an interview. As the interview unfolds we see other stories in the background -- a devoted mother of two young boys who nurtures everyone but herself, an overachieving husband who has forgotten what love means, and a movie director desperate for the opportunity to prove his worth. In Dyer's words, the second half of our life is when we find our unique purpose and want to contribute to the world. We then are able to make the shift from our ego to a more meaningful, focused life of serving the community and giving back. These believable characters show real people experiencing change.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great by Wayne Dyer - He Keeps Me Moving Along the Path of Life
I am a Wayne Dyer fan so I buy everything he writes and this was another great book for me. I know to some he got weird but to me he has an understanding of life that makes, or would make the world a better place if we tried following it. In this work (there is also a movie which I have but haven't watched yet) he talks about the shift we can make in life from where we are today to a meaningful life. Sounds easy but it certainly isn't. It is laid out in just four chapters. The first is 'From' meaning where we came from with very logical and spiritual discussion. The second Chapter is 'Ambition' which is really interesting; then 'To' and ending with 'Meaning'. Interesting, thought provoking and well worth studying.

It was very nice to hear Wayne Dyer's young strong voice, however mistakes are there and that cause some damage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely An Enlightened Master
Although I have heard many of Dr.W Dyer's audios, this one took me by surprise.Dr.Dyer, having been a Psychologist and Cousellor; excels in knowing the common folks and their musings like the back of his hand, and puts forth his guidance so beautifully..........in this title.

What took me by surprise was the phenonmenon of KNOWing through his meditative thinking.I wonder and am very curious to know (if Dr. Dyer reads this) if he has a spiritual Guru, and if yes, who is He or She.

5-0 out of 5 stars I go back to this one, again & again....Re-Think Your Paradigms!
I found this one a few years back, when I was lst exploring my options, on how to re-structure my mis-directed pre-conceptions....or something to that effect.
I was happy to see that the budding guru had come from a similar place and this was one of his lst efforts at "free-form" thinking. He even considered it a sort of "mind doodle".I consider it brilliant and it just popped into my mind's eye and opened it wide. For the lst time, I could see the other side of my mountain, with a view from space, thrown in!Sometimes, I just pop it in to hear his girl, in outer space, give me a different perspective on how to see my situation from a different viewpoint. For me, it was my introduction to having ah-ha moments of enlightenment.

I would also recomment his friend, Deepak Chopra's 3-CD boxed set, The Book of Secrets. It's a revealing look into his gentle soul & soulful wisdom. ... Read more

    Product Description
Bestselling author and lecturer Wayne W. Dyer has written a thought-provoking book for those of us who have chosen to consciously be on our life path. The ten "secrets" for success and inner peace presented here apply whether you’re just embarking on your path, are nearing the end of it, or are on the path in any way. Dr. Dyer urges you to read these ten secrets with an open heart. By doing so, you’ll learn to feel the peace of God that truly defines success.

Dr. Dyer shares his view that we’re living in an age of spiritual deficiency. We have more than enough information in our society—it’s spirituality that’s lacking.

First and foremost, spiritually advanced people must have a "burning desire" to become as spiritually fulfilled as possible—even if they’re seen as running against the pack, or, as his spiritual mentor, Henry David Thoreau said, "marching to the beat of their own drummer."

    Dr. Dyer’s ten principles include:

•Being open to everything and attached to nothing.

•Understanding that there are no justified resentments in life.

•Embracing silence, since meditation is the only way to truly come to know your Source.

•Knowing that you can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it.

•Treating yourself as if you already are what you’d like to become. ... Read more

i would like to confirm that im so not one of those self help weirdos who must have a book for every decision they make in life however.............the book is really good when youve a lot goin on in your life and helps you put things into perspective,it can be a bit dr phill at times but its really nice and realxing and you dont have to read it in one go,just whenever you need it pick a chapter. it flushes out all the negativity and brings you back to basics. perfect for stressful situations!!

5-0 out of 5 stars positive cards
Beautiful cards with lovely positive sayings. We pick 2 every day and read them and make it our mantra for that day. I love these cards they are wonderful and they lift up your spirit with truth and understanding.lts sayings are so peaceful and full of enlightment.Worth all the money in the world because of what they offer in return.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost Great
I agree with almost everything in this book but I always have a problem with Mr. Dyer telling people to lose their identity aka ego. There is a difference between the two but he always seems to blend them together. Yes I do agree that we all need to become one but we ARE all different. We all have different personalities and body types for a reason. Being who we are physically doesn't mean ego is in the way. It's your actions based on your ego that can cause problems. I like the idea of having a sense of oneness amongst each other but I also like who I am physically. I like my interests, talents, and personality. I think that we are all individual yet can all come together as one spiritually. But do not lose yourself in the process. It's a matter of keeping your ego in check, not losing yourself along the way. If we were all the same personality wise then this would be a boring world and we'd have nothing to base our "lessons" on. Be your own individual self and let's all become one in spirit! ... The man is a con artist. Do not buy this. A lot of self improvement books are actually self DESTRUCTION books. If you are having spiritual problems, do not buy books like this. Product Description

In There's a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem, bestselling author Wayne W. Dyer offers compelling testimony on the power of love, harmony, and service. When confronted with a problem, be it ill health, financial worries, or relationship difficulties, we often depend on intellect to solve it. But in this inspiring book, Dyer shows us that there is an omnipotent spiritual force at our fingertips that contains the solution to our problems. Drawing from the various spiritual traditions, especially from the prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi, Dyer helps us unplug from the material world and awaken to the divine within.

The first part of the book provides the essential foundation for spiritual problem solving, drawing from the wisdom of Patanjali, a Yogi mystic; the second half focuses on the legacy of Saint Francis. Dyer offers specific practical applications for applying the teachings of these wise men to everyday problems, including affirmations, writing exercises, and guided meditations.

2-0 out of 5 stars Reads Like A Televangelist's Spiel
I encountered this book in the library, and a few random flips revealed some ideas of interest: not wasting your thoughts on things that drag you down, and the idea that people tend to give off the emotions they've experienced and feel they are experiencing (i.e., the person who berates you likely feels berated). Solid, useful ideas. Notably, I had never heard of Mr. Dyer before.

Alas, checking the book out and reading it was an entirely different experience: apparently, I'd been fortunate enough to stumble on a few gems mixed in with the mud. First and foremost, this book recycles the tired old saw that you can will illness away if you just think the "right thoughts" hard enough in the "right way." This is the classic mentality of blaming the victim for their problems, and it's nothing new: "faith healers" in certain Christian traditions will claim that you'll have no ailments if only you believe hard enough. This books only differs in that it does not invoke Jesus.

The style of the book reads like something straight from a televangelist (I have since learned that Dyer has a TV show, which explains a few things, actually). He'll talk about not indulging ego in the same paragraph as he goes on and on about how much his tapes helped someone. Then he'll write that he won't explain a word or concept he uses because he already covered it in another of his books. I can sum up the feel of the text as follows: "Look at me! Look how great my products are! Buy more of them!"

Finally, as other reviewers have noted, this book is rife with contradictions. My "favorite" one is how he begins with a very wise and long-established insight: religion comes from without, spirituality comes from within. However, he then gives you reams of *his* rules for developing spirituality: a distinct outward focus. The book is not so much about developing your own insights and experiences; it is more about following his lists and plans. In terms of genuinely spiritually uplifting books, "Three 'Only' Things" by Robert Moss is more helpful, as are several dream books, including those by Gillian Holloway and Van de Castle. These books are more realistic: they will not offer lists and mandates like Dyer does, but they will help the reader to find his or her own depths and connections.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for.
    Wayne Dyer,
has the ability to explain complex ideas very simply. If you have ever struggled with concepts of Higher Power,God and the like this book will enlighten you.
For people who are on 'the spiritual journey' ,it is a fabulous book, with practical spiritual D.I.Y solutions that you can get going on. If you are a student of the 'Course in Miracles' this book would be a very good companion.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wise and stimulating
At first glance, the title of Dyer's book suggests an overly simplistic work, a pabulum of new age nostrums to be dismissed before moving on to more serious scholarship. However, although at times Dyers overreaches and exaggerates, to the point of being a Pollyanna - a term he cheerfully embraces - his book is inspiring and filled with wisdom from saints and sages of many religions.

His astonishing, and no doubt commercially astute, title is based on two claims:

    1. When one is thoroughly knowledgeable of the spiritual world, one will understand that all problems are concocted by the ego mind, based on the belief that it is separate from God (xvi)

    2. "Spiritual" does not mean something separate and distinct from the physical world, but is inclusive of the physical world.Nor is "spiritual" synonymous with "religious."In contrast to religions' emphasis on orthodoxy, rules andhistorical scriptures, spirituality is "a way of making life work at a higher level of receiving guidance for solving problems."(10)

A spiritual solution to a problem, then, doesn't necessarily mean a non-physical solution, or an attempt to wish the problem away.Rather, the point of the b ok seems to be that our problems arise from our false identification of our "self" (ego) as separate from God; as a result of this mis-identification, we live in a near constant state of vexation.

Dyer uses the famous prayer of St. Francis to structure the second half of the book.In the first half he describes how the physical world is really all energy; the importance of ceasing to give energy to the things you don't believe in; how to keep y our energy field uncontaminated; and raising and maintaining your spiritual energy.

I found the book chalk full of inspiring wisdom, drawn from Dyer's experience and those of people he has known, as well as from traditional sources like The Bible, Bhagavad-Gita, and Ramana Maharshi. The book is refreshingly eclectic and ecumenical.

At times, as noted before, Dyers overreaches; like a revivalist preacher, he seems to want to paste a smiley face over all of life's suffering. His thinking becomes too pat, too neat, in a word, simplistic. For example, he says you will feel sad at times inlife, and you should not deny those feelings.Yet in the same paragraph, he says since sadness is only a thought created by the mind that feels separate from God, it is an illusion. He has a formula: if it is not of God it is not real, and everything is of God, and all that is of God is good."We can all agree that sadness, despair, disease, and hatred are not good."(250)I don't agree that sadness, per se, is not good.In fact many times sadness purifies the heart.I also don't buy his claim that sadness is "not part of the repertoire" of saints and sages.Even when their loved one's die?Did not even Jesus weep?

Since some sadness is part of every human life, and since it is normal to feel sad when we lose loved ones, it will not do to simply categorize it as "not good," and not of God.Sadness can purify us, if we let it.We don't want to become fixated or stuck in sadness, but neither should we want to pretend it away, and calling it an illusion is tantamount to just that.A few pages later (253), Dyer even admits that every experience of sadness provides "valuable lessons to learn and doors to open to higher spiritual awareness."So how can sadness be dismissed as "not good" then?

The world is real. Our egos are indeed illusory, which is another way of saying our sense of separation from God is illusory. But our emotions are real on their own level and should be accepted as such.Calling them illusions amounts to a form of denial.Better to accept them as they are and work to dissolve and/or transcend them via spiritual practice.Notwithstanding these caveats, this is an excellent, rousing book, packed with knowledge and written in plain, easily understood English.

5-0 out of 5 stars Empowering Book to Help You Become More Self-Aware.
This book gives the reader hope to uncovering the solutions of the mind. I picked this book up to see what perspective Dyer would give me to help me feel at ease as I tackled those difficult times in life, and I felt so good as I read things I knew were true.

Constantly working on keeping myself in a higher vibration is one way I am working on the prevention of life's challenges, but when they do hit me, I know that I just cannot give them energy. Practicing Dyers theories, has been time well spent, as I am well on my way to a more peaceful life, which is precisely why I picked up this book in the first place.
