4-0 out of 5 stars Just Call Me Mike
This is a heartfelt, but important book.Mike Farrell discusses human rights concerns openly and clearly and in historical context.I must read for anyone concerned about the future for America.

1-0 out of 5 stars Probably the worst book ever written
This book is terrible.Mike Farrel blabs on about nothing important and his thoughts are random and unorganized. There is no structure to the book and nothing to take from it.The book reads like a kid in high school wrote it.

3-0 out of 5 stars A principled, soft-spoken good guy.We need more citizens like him
Although the trajectory of Mike Farrell's life might not be the stuff of timeless autobiography, it's interesting, educational, and primed me for hearing him at a speaker's event in the near future. There's some actor's insight here, but he doesn't dwell on that part of his life (M*A*S*H for him was a chance ride into lifelong celebrity). His family life is the typical married young and then had kids, "We weren't on the same page" divorce, and successful remarriage with children becoming high achievers. And his world travels to observe and testify of various wars and other political and social disasters turns out to be mostly by referral and invitation, not self-appointment.I can't say I disagree with him about anything.Mike Farrell has come far, he appreciates what he's been given, and earned, and his autobiography is a worthwhile pass-along book.

5-0 out of 5 stars NIce Book, I enjoyed it.
I am a conservative, over 20 years served, active duty US Marine, currently deployed to Baghdad Iraq.I am guessing some readers would wonder why I read the book. I know Mr Farrell is a little to the left, so what. I have enjoyed hearing his opinions on various political shows over the years so that I can hear what the left has to say.He has always been polite and respectful to all opinions, so I gave it a shot.I was not dissapointed, he tells a great story of how he became who he is, to include his time in the US Marines.I almost laugh at the thought of him serving, but I believe from reading this book Mr Farrell loves his country and is a patriot, just with differing opinions from my own and I salute his service to our country. You will read some about MASH, his childhood and how he became a activist.Be warned, he is harsh to conservatives, which I did not agree with, but I respect his right to speak out, and speak out he does.Maybe a little too much conservatie bashing, he could have got his point across with less, but overall a good read, just have a open mind, and if you are looking for a book only about MASH, this is not it.Semper Fi Mr Farrell, I enjoyed your book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational is a really great word to describe this book
This personal account of the life of a personality known to millions exceeded my expectations.Although an autobiography, it goes beyond the typical remembrances of a life lived outside of and in the spotlight, pushing past the usual, and manages to inspire, and to make you think.
Mike Farrell's integrity and commitment to humanity, to making the world a better place, are not just conveyed throughout the chapters of this book in his own words, but have been demonstrated in perpetuity by his selfless actions on behalf of mankind. This book is missing an important word in the subtitle- It should have been called "Just Call Me Mike- The Journey From Actor to Activist to TEACHER."An educator, he is indeed.

Product Description

Reverend Joseph Ingle’s moving book argues eloquently and passionately against the death penalty, serving as an enduring testament to the inmates who have touched his life. Ingle, a counselor to prisoners on Death Row since 1974, chronicles his experiences working with 12 condemned men and one condemned woman each of whom has since been executed.  For more than three decades, he has spread his anti-death penalty message across the country, doggedly referring to what the state calls “execution” as “killing.” A man of simple faith, Ingle refuses to see these inmates as anything less than human beings.

With a chapter devoted to each of the inmates, Ingle memorializes them without attempting to cleanse the record of their crimes.  Instead, he emphasizes the necessity of viewing them as individuals: “The public needs to see them for who they were and how their love enriched my life,” Ingle writes.  “To their memories and for those who loved them, I offer their stories to the world.”  The powerful original foreword by the late William Styron is now preceded by a new introduction by M*A*S*H* star, turned-death-penalty-abolitionist, Mike Farrell.

1-0 out of 5 stars You can't Con a Con, but the Con can Con you
The Reverend IS SICK OF HEARING ABOUT THE CRIME?!?!?!?!? Perhaps the 'good' Reverend probably wouldn't be this 'sick' of hearing about the crime if a devout satan worshiper was the perp? Ya Think?

On June 25, 1976, a three-year old girl, disappeared from her parents' apartment in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Jimmy Lee Gray, who lived nearby, was the last person seen with Derissa so he was questioned by the police about her disappearance. She was lured into his apartment to play with some kittens. Gray admitted to the police that he had taken Derissa..... He took the police to find her, and her body was recovered around 4:30 am..... Evidence showed that Derissa......~not good, search at your own risk~...... Gray was convicted...of capital murder and sentenced to death. The conviction, however, was reversed on appeal and the case was remanded for a new trial. At the second trial, Gray was again convicted and sentenced to death. The second conviction was upheld on appeal. At the time of Derissa's murder, Gray was on parole from a second degree murder conviction in Arizona.....Gray was given a 20 year to life sentence for that crime but served only just over 6 years before being paroled.....spiritual advisor, Rev. Joseph Ingle, stated at the time that Gray should not be executed because he was a "devout Christian who committed crimes. He's a sensitive, caring and humorous person. I want us to focus on Jimmy's humanity because I am sick and tired of hearing about the crime."

So, based on what I've read, if a sadistic, sociopathic, pedophil[e][liac], has a good sense of humor and is sensitive he/she should not get the death penalty for certain atrocities if he/she is a Devout Christian who committed crimes?I....uh...yeah...ah...umm....yeah uh....mmmm...ahhh.....Sorry, cat got my tongue, but I am sure the good Reverend will serve as the cats' spiritual advisor.......Amen

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
Rev. Joe Ingle has spent an incredible amount of time with men and women on death row. In this book he tells the stories of men and women who have been executed as well as the stories of their families. The book is gripping from the very beginning to the end. Rev. Ingle will challenge your thinking on the death penalty, and will help you see more clearly the grace and mercy of Christ. ... Read more

Product Description

In May 2008—shortly after being named by the Los Angeles Times as a “Person of the Year”—Mike Farrell drove himself across the country on a book tour like no other. Networking with political groups (and friends like Joseph Wilson and Valerie Plame), Farrell has redefined the very concepts of book touring and "promotion" through a progressive lens.

Best known for his eight years on M*A*S*H and five seasons on Providence, Mike Farrell is also a writer, director, and producer. Farrell has served on human rights and peace delegations to many countries around the world. His first book, Just Call Me Mike (Akashic Books, 2007), was a Los Angeles Times bestseller.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mike Farrell: Of Mule & Man
I loved the stories, both of the towns visited and the dialogue with his Prius.Have bought copies for friends who have Prius' as well.Very entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking author
Mike Farrell is a gifted writer and a man who knows how to think outside the box. How many authors do you know who are walk the talk to the point of driving a hybrid car around the country to do a book tour? There are so many authors who profess to be green who sure do not walk the talk.

Now I have to be honest and say having had a spouse who was disabled by a drunk driver I haven't always been a big supporter of doing away with the death penalty. Then in the mid nineties I checked a book out from the library written by someone from a southern prison who who worked on death row.

He had written of the fact that when someone is put to death, it is innocent men/women who must do the killing even if its lethal injection which looks rather painless. Nonetheless he noted it takes a toll on the people doing the execution. Something society doesn't ever think about. Then I read some of Mr Farrells other pieces and books and I finally came to agree with him.

Also like that he is a fair man. Not at all the wild raving maniac leftist negative type some people who disagree with him, make him out to be. His views on Israel, the war in Iraq, human rights in general and what we do to the least of these we do to Christ, (for those who are Christian) are a must read.

Excerpt: The Portland Pirates are a minor professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League, serving as the top farm team for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League. They play in Portland, Maine, at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The franchise was previously known as the Baltimore Skipjacks from 1982 to 1993. The Portland Pirates were founded in 199394 as an affiliate of the Washington Capitals. The team was previously known as the Baltimore Skipjacks, who relocated to Maine. The Pirates replaced the void made by the Maine Mariners who departed to become the Providence Bruins a year earlier. The Capitals affiliation ended after 12 seasons in 2005. The Pirates first season proved to be their most successful one to date, as they won the Calder Cup with a 432710 record. Their next season they had 104 points, but were upset in the 1st round of the playoffs. In the 199596 season, they again reached the Calder Cup Finals, despite a subpar record of 323410, but lost to the Rochester Americans. Since then, it has been a roller coaster ride for the Pirates. Despite an excellent 100 point season, they were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round in 199900. For the first four seasons, they were coached by current Nashville Predators head coach Barry Trotz. They have played host to the AHL All-Star Classic twice (in 2003 and 2010). In the 2006 AHL playoffs, the Pirates went for a thrilling playoff run, only to be defeated by the eventual Calder Cup-winning Hershey Bears in a dramatic seven-game series.
