Ed Feldman's unique story takes readers on a journey through Hollywood that few can tell--and most will never forget. This smartly written, surprising, hilarious memoir takes us "behind-the-scenes" with wild, no-holds-barred stories about major Hollywood stars, from Bette Davis to Elizabeth Taylor, Stanley Kubrick to Harrison Ford, to Jim Carrey to Eddie Murphy to Glenn Close, and many more.

This incredible Hollywood memoir from one of moviedom's renowned producers is full of insight and the stuff of gossip, bad behavior and high success.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tell Me More...
This audio book surpassed my expectations! The life of Ed Feldman was wildly entertaining and Christian Hoff does an incredible job. I feel such an appreciation for the hard work of a producer and value each movie I watch that much more. I would like to thank Ed Feldman for allowing us to step into his life and enjoy his stories of some of our favorite actors. I couldn't of thought of anyone better to narrate than the brilliant Christian Hoff. How does he do that!John Wayne was my favorite.
I recommend this beautifully written story of Ed Feldman's life to everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars World-Record Great Voices and a Wonderful Story of the Movie Industry over the Past 5 Decades
I've heard the book twice now. I obtained the CD set initially looking to hear Christian Hoff's Guinness world-record 241 voices, which are amazing, but I was treated to a wonderful story by publicist/producer Ed Feldman, with collaborators Tom Barton and Jimmy Merrill, as well.

The audiobook took me through the last half-century, concentrating as much on Bette Davis, John Wayne, Cary Grant and Barbra Streisand as on Harrison Ford, Eddie Murphy, Jim Carrey, and Glenn Close--with wonderful backstories about Murphy in "The Golden Child" and Close in "101 Dalmations."

The stories were thrilling, so much so that I sat in my parked car not wanting to interrupt the wonderful story-telling of the antics on the set of "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" or the casting challenge of Barbara Streisand in "Funny Girl."Christian Hoff brings Bette Davis and Joan Crawford back to life, and does a magnificent Streisand inflection.

And I also finally learned exactly what a producer does, as Ed (Christian) takes us through his own wonderful experience of producing Harrison Ford's and Kelly McGillis's "Witness", from having no major studio interest to 8 Academy Award nominations, including one for Ed himself.

I also finally learned what a "producer" actually does.Basically, he "fixes" problems and is the general manager of the film. One thing a producer doesn't do, though, is put his/her own money into a production! Funny, all these years, I've thought the producer was putting his/her monies at risk along with mine!!

But the best part of "Tell Me How You Love the Picture" is personal, describing how Ed met and married Lorraine, literally the girl next door in the Bronx as Ed was growing up, and how they've now been together for 53 years.

Great job, Ed, Tom and Jimmy. And absolutely marvelous story-telling and voice creation, Christian. These stories are a great and wonderful education in the movie industry over the past 50 years.Worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tell Me How You Love the Picture
Ed Feldman has been a distinguished producer for many years. He spent several years in advertising, and various aspects of the motion picture industry on his way up, met many of the "greats".He tells his story in a lively and convincing manner. His "7 rules" extend beyond producing and can apply to many aspects of life.I particularly enjoyed his discussion of his meeting and marrying the girl next door.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny and Superb Account of Hollywood
I just finished, Tell Me How You Loved the Picture and really liked it. Feldman worked his way up the Hollywood ladder from pr guy to producer and has very funny experiences along the way. The book covers Feldman's Hollywood covers antecdotes from Liz Taylor to Jim Carrey filming The Truman Show. I've never read a better book for understanding what a producer actually does. I highly recommend Tell Me How You Love the Picture.

5-0 out of 5 stars If You Love Pictures, You Will Love This Book About The Pictures
Ed Feldman's "Tell Me How You Love the Picture: A Hollywood Life," written in collaboration with Tom Barton, is a fascinating, behind-the-scenes account of a Hollywood movie producer.Feldman, who started out in the movie business as a publicist for 20th Century Fox and worked his way up the ladder to produce big time, blockbuster hits, recounts in his book the tricky path that a movie producer frequently must walk between investors, studio executives, directors, actors and sometimes even puppy advocates in order to get his picture in the neighborhood cinemaplex.Readers, especially Hollywood movie fans, will enjoy the many humorous stories and delightful reminiscences about big named actors such as Elizabeth Taylor, Glenn Close, Jim Carrey, Harrison Ford and Eddie Murphy. ... Absolutely hilarious!Makes me want to listen to the radio broadcast all over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Romp Through the H2G2 Universe
These authors take you through the 5-book Trilogy (although they mostly focus on the first 3 books) in a series of essays. They are all light hearted, but some of them are more serious that others. It also includes a great interview of Douglas Adams from the 80s.

I had a lot of fun with the book and remembering my favorite scenes. The essays also helped me see different interpretations of the actions of the characters.I recommend it for the bookshelf of any H2G2 fan!

5-0 out of 5 stars An inside look at Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe
Twenty essays make up The Anthology at the End of the Universe and each author basically tries to tell us what is so important about the 5 book Hitchhiker's Guide trilogy. It's sort of like the old joke about the blind men each trying to describe an elephant when they each had only a small piece of the animal in their grip. No one essay can be expected to give you a definitive answer as to what the Hitchhiker's Guide is truly about or what Douglas Adams' message was when he wrote it. What the essays do is give you an understanding of why the books are so popular and how so many people have found a place for them in their lives and hearts.

Some of these essays had me laughing out loud so that I had to read those parts to my husband to prove I hadn't really gone off the deep end. Other's had me wondering about how you could come up with such serious connections from a series of comedic science fiction books. Then there were the essays that had me saying, "hmm, never thought of that". And of course, being me, there were the essays that had me sniffling discreetly into a tissue. There's a lot to like in this collection of essays. However, they are essays rather than short stories and if you're looking for the latter this book is not for you.

Mike Byrne in "Beware of the Leopard", Cory Doctorow in "Wikipedia: A Genuine H2G2 - Minus the Editor, and Bruce Bethke in " The Secret Symbiosis: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Its Impact on Real Computer Science" talk about the impact that Hitchhiker's Guide has had on computer science, computer interface design, the internet as a communications media, and the impetus it was in starting many young people on a career in the sciences. The Guide in the television version, while done with colored gels and press on letters was heads and shoulders above what computers at the time were capable of achieving. Once people saw what a really good user interface could be like they demanded better than they had and the computer companies listened. In some ways, we have Douglas Adams to thank for the usability of computers because once users began to think there could be something better they demanded it.

Others see the Hitchhiker's Guide as a round about way to think of the truly important things in life: religion, humor, 42, looking at the world as it is. The following essays dealt more with the philosophical aspects of the books: "That About Wraps it up for Oolon Colluphid" by Don Debrandt; "The Holy Trilogy" by Selina Rosen (this one is so funny it should have a spew alert); "The Zen of 42" by Marie-Catherine Caillava.

No book about the Guide could be complete without a mention of Vogon poetry. Lawrence Watt-Evans in "A Consideration of Certain Aspects of Vogon Poetry" discusses the merits of quantifying poetry so that the Guide can equivocally say that Vogon poetry is the third worst. He also wonders about Arthur's seeming immunity to it.

Adam Roberts in "42" and Jacqueline Carey in "Yes, I Got It" discuss the philosophy of humor and its place in our lives. While Susan Sizemore in "You Can't Go Home Again, Damn It! Even If Your Planet Hasn't Been Blown Up by Vogons" realizes that the person she was when first exposed to the Guide and the person she is now do not view the Guide in the same way. Even with all the happy memories of that first reading, she finds that it doesn't have the same impact now as it did then.

Food, food, glorious food. Douglas Adams loved a good meal especially with good friends and food plays an important role in the Hitchhiker's Guide. The role of food is touched upon by Steven Baxter in "Lunching at the Eschaton: Douglas Adams and the End of the Universe in Science Fiction", A.M. Dellamonica in "Digital Watches May Be a Pretty Neat Idea, But Peanuts and Beer Are What Get You Through the Apocalypse".

When the world or universe is off kilter or just plain crazy, how do you remain sane when all about you are crazy? Well, some writers have evidently come up with some ideas on how to remain sane in a crazy world from their reading of the Guide: "The Subversive Dismal Scientist: Douglas Adams and the Rule of Unreason" by Vox Day; "Another Fine Mess" by Adam Troy Castro; "The Only Sane Man in the Universe" by Marguerite Krause; "Douglas Adams and the Wisdom of Madness" by John Shirley; and "Loop-Surface Security: The Image of the Towel in a Vagabond Universe - A Semiotic (Semi-Odd) Excursion" by Mark W. Tiedemann.

There's also an interview with Douglas Adam by John Shirley ("A Talk with Douglas Adams"). Amy Berner in "Words to Live " talks about how everything she needed to learn to life live she learned from the Hitchhiker's Guide. "Goodnight, Marvin" by Maria Alexander is the final essay in the book and a touching tribute to Douglas as a person who touched many of our lives with his writing.

5-0 out of 5 stars A delightful book...
The book covers tons of details, from how important food is to the series, to computer design, the meaning of life, the meaning of 42, Marvin's place in the universe, Vogon poetry and even British humor. At under 199 pages, this tiny book seems to cover a lot, but I feel they could have done so much more. There is so much to debate and think about when it comes to Adam's universe that this book barely peeled off the first layer of the massive tome. But maybe we should leave some mystery for future readers to find and enjoy on their own?
To list just SOME of the contributors whose work is within these pages we have Stephen Baxter, Susan Sizemore and Adam Roberts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The story of a man who loved to fly
Glen Edwards's story is a great one. Born in Canada, he hit the road with his family during the Great Depression, settling in the promised land of California, where he grew to manhood at the onset of World War II. He learned to fly in a tube-and-fabric biplane, went to war in an A-20 that was a cross between a fighter and a bomber, and with peace became a test pilot in the brand-new United States Air Force. Among the planes he flew was the fantastic "Flying Wing" from Northrop--intended as a trans-ocean bomber that could have struck Berlin from bases in the U.S. During the Cold War, with jet engines, it was a promising stealth weapon, but it was fatally unstable. Glen Edwards crashed to his death near Muroc Air Base, which would later be named in his memory. In time, the flawed Northrop B-49 would become the excellent B-2 Stealth bomber, similar in many respects to the plane Glen flew, but made stable by onboard computers. Blue skies! -- Dan Ford

5-0 out of 5 stars A fascinating portrait of an American hero.
This book is nothing short of captivating. The author provides brief explanatory narratives to connect entries from Edwards' diaries, beginning with flight training, then combat in North Africa, and the early post-waryears in America.

Just ferrying his airplane from the States to NorthAfrica was a big adventure, considering the rather primitive nature ofnavigation aids and weather forecasts in that era.

Combat in Africa andItaly is described in detail, some of it surprising. For example, amilitary advance had a down side.Moving forward to a newly captured airfield meant that the American aviators were subjected to more groundattacks by German aircraft.

The second half of the book covers the earlypost-war years, when American factories were building new airplanes almostfaster than the Air Force could flight test them. Many exotic,one-of-a-kind vehicles are described here.

To some extent, the reader hasa sense of foreboding at this point, knowing that this story is destined toend as unhappily as the maidenvoyage of the Titanic.Yet this knowledgeserves to accentuate the daily events described here.

There are manymemorable tidbits in this book, such as tales of a man who actuallyintimidated Chuck Yeager!

Glen Edwards is portrayed in these pages as soheroic, embodying so many virtues, yet so modest and unassuming. This issomeone you would want to know and to spend time with.Through this book, you can.

5-0 out of 5 stars A pilot's read!
A superb book about Glen Edwards. I thoroughly enjoyed and empathized with his career. The pace was like reading a literary version of Ravel's "Bolero" with the crescendo building to the final flight. Thedescription of the crash was wrenching, superb.

A pilot's read! BravoZulu!
