One Fine Fox

Four famished foxes make fun of their brother Fosdyke, who feels fondly for fried figs, fennel, and French bread. Leaving him behind to fry and flambé, they go foraging for fowl in a forbidden farmyard. Unfortunately, the foxes find the fowl forwarned. Foiled, they return to their den. Will they ever filch a fabulous farmyard feast? Or will they forgo fowl and finally admit that "a fox is a fox whatever the food"?

This is a fun book that my children enjoy. It arrived quick and efficiently.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent tongue twister!
Great book; was not disappointed. If you like Pamela Duncan Edwards this will fit right in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book
This is a really fun book to read to my 6 yr old son.The pictures are fun to look at and it is amazing to see how many words starting with "F" she packed into each page.My son had a good time finding items and words starting with "F" in the book.Cute story, I highly recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars vocabulary builder
What a great way to build vocabulary in your little one! One of the chief reasons to read to your child is to introduce that child to wonderful words that are not necessarily part of your speaking repertoire, and that your child would not hear frequently otherwise. Although you are going to LOVE Cole's imaginative illustrations, and Edwards' cute story, as well as the lovely alliterative rhythms, what you may appreciate most is that this book contains many words that your child may not yet be familiar with. Read Four Famished Foxes with Fosdyke a few times to your favorite child, and you will find that the fountain of fabulous words will spark new speech from your special little loved one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Second grade class has mixed review
Fox All Week by Edward Marshall has a story for ech day of the week. On Monday Fox didnt want to go on a field trip because it was raining. He was pretending to be sick and he saw is class going on the trip anyway. He was mad!On Tuesday Fox, Carmen and Dexter threw their tune sandwiches over the school wall. A cat ate them and the kids ended up hungry. On Wednesday evening they went to the library.Fox was reading a funny book and he started laughing. Miss Pencil, the librarian, kicked them all out of the library. Then she read fox's book and she rolled on the floor laughing. On Thursday they found some cigars and tried smoking them. They got sick. On Friday Fox made dinner after his mom burned it. On Saturday Fox gave his Grandma's candy to a pretty fox. On Sunday Fox's friend hid her face in a bag because she had braces on her teeth.
We thought this was a good book except the Thursday story. We think it is not good for kids because they smoke cigars. The kids might try smmoking. They might not notice the sick part. So if you buy this, talk to your kids about smoking. Or don't let the kids see the smoking story.

1-0 out of 5 stars Teach your preschool to smoke
What a terrible book. Fox and his friends light up mid-way through the book. I'm not sure why people like these Fox books. Fox is disrespectful to his mother and resents spending time with his little sister. Is this really what you want to be teaching your kids?

2-0 out of 5 stars Foul smell
We enjoyed our first Fox book, Fox on the Job, but Fox All Week is notably less enjoyable for two reasons:1) it is much less funny and 2) one of the stories shows Fox and his friends smoking cigars.Marshall tries to treatthe subject with intended humor, but it is lost on children ages 4-8.Thisage group is not able to understand such tongue-in-cheek humor until olderand the result of the cigar smoking story is confusion about whethersmoking is OK for kids.

4-0 out of 5 stars Your 6 year old will love this book.
I never saw my 6 year old nephew laugh so hard.He has several Fox books and has read them all over and over again. We both liked this one because Fox is so funny while he gets himself into some kind of trouble every dayof the week! A word of caution: I only gave this book 4 stars because Foxand his friends smoke a cigar in this book. I didn't think the lesson theylearned from it was strong enough. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for ESL kids
This book is included in a set I have in my classroom. I teach first-year ESL students and they LOVE this book more than any other. As a project I broke up the class into 3 groups who each were responsible for performing one of the stories in the book as a play. They enjoyed every second of it, even as high-schoolers, especially when there weren't enough girls in a group and a boy had to play Raisin, the "pretty white fox." I agree that "Fox Trot" is the sore spot of the book, but when the students brought in music and actually jammed to it, it was hilarious!

5-0 out of 5 stars Time to laugh...
Did you know that "Edward Marshall" is also James Marshall? It's too bad this author/illustrator died so young, because his books are so good. When I was a little kid, my mom read me all of the books about Fox and I loved them! This book contains three stories concerning Fox and his girlfriends.

4-0 out of 5 stars 3 1/2*Three Stories About Fox
This 48-page book is divided into three episodes dealing with our hero, "Fox."In the first story Fox reluctantly accompanies his sister to the park, when he encounters the pretty white fox "Raisin."The next day, he practically bribes his sister to go with him so that he might meet Raisin again. In "Fox and the Girls," Fox goes to a fair with Rose, then Lola ("On Wednesday Fox and Lola went to the fair."), and finally Raisin, who discovers Fox's previous "dates"("And on Saturday, Fox went to the fair...all alone."). In the final story, Fox and his sister win second prize in a dance contest ("They did the boogie. They did the stomp."), after Raisin turns him down--perhaps still upset about Fox's fair dates described in the previous story. While the first two stories have some clever humor, the final one is a bit flat. The pictures, while simple and cute (somewhat similar to Sandra Boynton's style), are chiefly limited to green and orange colors.A good book for Fox fans, but I can't imagine most children getting too excited over the stories. However, children may enjoy a"chapter book" geared for the early reader (perhaps grades 1-2).The publisher (Dial) lists the reading level as 1.8; the book is one of several in its the "Easy-to-Read" collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves to read Fox, and I laugh too!
My son loves to read all of the Fox-series of books. He is in kindergarten and just past the first level of readers. This is just the right level for him, and he loves to hear about fox's latest goof up.I enjoy them too for their droll wit.For some reason (a combination of being the right level and their funnyness...we can't wait to hear what happens next), he reads these books extremely smoothly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars adorable
I remember loving the "fox books" when I was younger and now my 5- and 3-year olds love them too. They're clever and cute and easy-to-read, with silliness that my kids can pick up on.Plus my 5 year-old can sound out most of the words.Definitely worth picking up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic James Marshall
If you have a child between 3 and 8, you should buy this book. The late, great James Marshall (Edward was a pseudonym) had the rare ability to tell a story using easy-to-read words, but still with genuinely surprising and humorous twists. This book's ending is a brilliant twist, which I will not spoil here.

If you don't have a child the right age, you should buy this anyway, but you may have to think of an excuse.

This book ranks with Marshall's best, which also include the sublime "Three By the Sea," as well as the better-known "Miss Nelson" and "George & Martha" books.

A note to the publisher:You really should keep James Marshall's better books available in hardcover library editions. This guy's best works are classics, and they'll continue to sell for at least another century. ... Read more

Product Description
The Emergence of the European World is a narrative history of Europe, and of four centuries in which the European nations so extended their influence that for much of the period the world could very largely be described as European. The story encompasses the great revolutions in England, America, France and Russia; the rise of the European and American democracies; the acquisition and loss of Empire; demographic transition and the industrial revolution; and the wars almost constantly fought, either directly or by proxy, which at various times so critically changed the course of human history. ...
