solid compilation with good editorial marks
This is a good compilation of a smattering of art songs from a variety of languages.And they are put in order, first of language, but then by difficulty so that the student can move through the pieces, increasing in difficulty each time.Very much appreciated.Van Christy's editorial style is very good with the literal translation located on the bottom of each page for easy student reference.As a voice teacher, it is also very handy to have some program notes with each piece to help guide the discussion of the pieces.I bought this because I had loaned out my old copy and it never got returned (story of a musician's life, huh?) and I just couldn't be without it. ... With the advent of globalization theory, scores of academics have heralded the advent of democracy as the only viable form of political organization in the world. John Glenn's book (whose evolution I followed as a colleague of his in a doctoral program in sociology) offers a much-needed critique of such generic claims. Indeed, he notes, democracy did become established in Eastern Europe after the fall of the Soviet Union. But, the road to democracy and, therefore, the specific type of democratic arrangements that followed varied greatly from country to country.
