Product Description
The relationship between grace and freedom is among the more significant focal points in Christian theological reflection, and Gregory of Nyssa's thought in this area provides abundant material for detailed analysis of the Eastern alternative. This study examines his view of grace and freedom within his own historical setting, and particularly in the context of his thought as a whole. It should be of significance to centithetical thinking, which is important in much patristic and Byzantine theology. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring true stories of recovery
David Dodd has assembled a wide variety of stories to inspire and encourage addicted people to get clean.I was impressed that Twelve Step groups were NOT the focus of every tale, and that the one constant was that each individual made a PERSONAL CHOICE to forego their addiction and live sober. For all the help some people get from 12-Step groups, there are many who don't "relate" to the religiousity. But this book shows that recovery is still possible and worthwhile. The fact that most of these tales are told by celebrities and artists we KNOW only increases their value.Plus, it's nice to know that my gut feeling about Steven Tyler is "on the money" - he truly IS a mensch!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book!
I was attracted to the many well-known names listed on the cover, but once I began reading the book, I was overwhelmed with its passion and solutions. David Dodd has done a remarkable job which is reflected in this collectionof interviews. My favorite part, however, is the introduction to thebook, where the author tells his personal story on how he became sober withthe help of Steven Tyler. His vivid description of the events wereastonishing to me, they were absolutely incredible. This is a wonderfulbook! ... Read more

Product Description
Nolan Kilkenny is pursuing his doctorate in advanced computer technology. While investigating a seemingly harmless technical problem in a complex, highly secured computer network, he becomes involved in the CIA and FBI's fierce hunt for three computer-age information pirates. The ruthless, brilliant thieves have stolen SPYDER--the CIA's ultra-secret electronic intelligence gathering project that can enter the most heavily-guarded computer networks in existence--and the United States government will do anything to get it back. Suddenly, Kilkenny is leading the search for SPYDER and is a prime target for those who will stop at nothing to possess the ultimate spy weapon.Amazon.com Review
Tom Grace, a Michigan architect, wrote his first thriller in his sparetime, in between designing research facilities for IBM and the Universityof Michigan. That explains why it has both a cool, careful structure andthe feel of a solid foundation of scientific research behind its manyscenes of absorbing action.

Ex-Navy SEAL Nolan Kilkenny has just begun work at his father's onlineresearch facility called MARC (for Michigan Applied Research Consortium)when two high-level hackers steal a CIA device called Spyder and turn itloose on MARC in a test of its strength. Spyder is the ultimate hackingprogram, with the ability to sniff out every byte of supposedly classifieddata on the Internet and make it public--creating a financial disaster forthe Kilkennys as well as a potential threat to world order.

Using his old SEAL killing skills and his recently acquired cybersnooperabilities, Nolan sets about solving both problems at once. Grace knowsenough about designing thrillers that function on visceral as well asintellectual levels to keep the action flowing along with the technicaljargon. If you've been wondering where the next generation of Tom Clancysis going to come from, direct your gaze to Ann Arbor and environs.--Dick Adler ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay thriller
This has just been re-issued in the UK despite being a few years old now.

The author uses an ex Navy SEAL as his lead, now a computer expert working in his Dad's company. But then duty calls as he is needed to use both his SEAL and computing skills to avoid the naughty Chinese getting hold of a critical computer programme.Throw into the mix the FBI, Homeland Security, ex Russian spies, MI5, International hackers and you get the idea. The style is a kind of Clancy, lots going on as you see different perspectives on the story. The main character, our ex SEAL Kilkenny, appears in chunks and does not carry the whole story, which is good as I thought him the weakest aspect of the story. He came over as too clean cut and noble and just too perfect. All men admire him, all women adore him, he does everything brilliantly, lethal yet humble etc etc.
Otherwise this thriller works, just.A bit overly technical at times but with a fair cast of characters and a reasonable plot, this is no stunner, but it ain't bad.A three star thriller, but for me nearer the bottom end of three rather then the top, for this kind of thing to work, you really have to engage with the lead character and I didn't.

2-0 out of 5 stars Can't believe 5 stars...
I had to balance these folks who are giving out ***** reviews willy-nilly.The gentleman who complained about the ubermensch characters hit on the head one of the several nails in this book's coffin.Others include the very predictable plot, the insignificance of the technology (which was supposed to be the core of the whole thing), and some places where my disbelief was unwilling to suspend itself.

I gave it the extra star from my 1 for 2 reasons: the writing was not so poor that I couldn't finish it, and the technology, while not central, at least was for the most part plausible and correct. That's always a plus, even more so since Grace avoided a heavy "gee-whiz" factor that often accompanies mainstream use of technical gimmickry.

And I was glad I got it at a serious discount...

2-0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...
My problem with this book is the characters.Does everybody have to be a super-man or super-woman?I like characters I can Identify with, not super-powered brainiacs who could rule the world if they chose to.Its hard to identify with ex-navy SEALs who also have advanced degrees in every discipline known to man.It was like watching an episode of Baywatch where the characters were smart and good-looking.

I appreciate that the other reviewers like the fast-paced plot, and it is well written, but the dialog sounds like a bad soap opera ("As you know, Bob, I...").It was hard to finish.Buy it at a discount if you like these kind of thrillers, but if you want characters, look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Got it all
Great Characters, plot, action, location and writing. This book has allthe elements of a good read.Brings together US, Britain, China andRussia.Plenty of twists from technology within the understanding of theless than technologically proficient.Good Story.Looking for the nextbook.Does remind me a bit of Clive Cussler.

Hooked on books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put It Down!
This book was one of best books I ever read. I like espionage stories but since I'm a programmer, I want technology to be a big part of the story. This had both and it's hard to find these two things combined sometimes.Great action, more or less non-stop the whole way. This was a lot of funand intelligent to boot. Has Grace written anything else? I want more. ... Read more

Product Description
Locating original landowners in maps has never been an easy task--until now. This volume in the Family Maps series contains newly created maps of original landowners (patent maps) in what is now Harrison County, Missouri, gleaned from the indexes of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. But it offers much more than that. For each township in the county, there are two additional maps accompanying the patent map: a road map and a map showing waterways, railroads, and both modern and many historical city-centers and cemeteries.

Included are indexes to help you locate what you are looking for, whether you know a person's name, a last name, a place-name, or a cemetery. The combination of maps and indexes are designed to aid researchers of American history or genealogy to explore frontier neighborhoods, examine family migrations, locate hard-to-find cemeteries and towns, as well as locate land based on legal descriptions found in old documents or deeds.

The patent-maps are essentially plat maps but instead of depicting owners for a particular year, these maps show original landowners, no matter when the transfer from the federal government was completed. Dates of patents typically begin near the time of statehood and run into the early 1900s.

This high-quality paperback book from the critically acclaimed Family Maps series measures 8-3/8" wide x 10-5/8" high. ... Read more
